Battlefield V has walked a rather rocky road when it comes to post-launch support, with complete chapters of content that haven't always been well received and a Battle Royale mode that was too little too late. As such, EA has announced that the World War 2 shooter will no longer be supported in a major way past one final content update this summer.
Taking to the publisher's blog, senior producer Ryan McArthur said that EA DICE will "will release one more standalone update this summer that brings with it some new content, weapons, and game tweaks." This is planned to launch in June, but the Coronavirus pandemic could still have an effect on that timing. Outside of this content drop, however, Battlefield V will no longer receive support as the developer presumably turns its attention to the next instalment in the franchise. That won't be releasing this year, so we reckon it'll be a fully fleshed-out PlayStation 5 game rather than a cross-gen title. Although, we have to assume that some members of the team will stick around to fix any bug fixes and minor issues Battlefield V encounters.
McArthur signs out by thanking the player base for sticking by them. "Having a community of your caliber is a true privilege. In the meantime, we’ll see you on the battlefield." How do you react to this news? Were you hoping that Battlefield V would be supported beyond summer and into the autumn months? Ready up in the comments below.

I hope it will be a modern installment coz they burned themselves with the WW2 setting
I actually really enjoyed the new update with the Pacific maps. Sadly wasn't enough to save the game.
I'm hoping the next one is heading back to Bad Company.
I didn't buy this game on principle. It may have turned out to be a great game after that launch disaster, but certain developer statements are hard to forget.
That and, i try to avoid buying any EA related products.
There is a fantastic game buried underneath all the moronic decisions made by DICE. They finally got a good thing going with the Pacific update, and then ruin it all by changing the TTK. They need to go back to the paid DLC model for the next game
Haven't really enjoyed bf in a while now the last one I really enjoyed was BF4. Think they need to do some serious thinking on the next one
It's no surprise it will be two years this November, I can give Battlefield that over CoD at least they don't bring them out yearly. I haven't played this game in awhile but maybe I will return to it one last time.
Yeah, hopefully it'll be better this time around. And that picture looks surprisingly dumb to be honest. Not sure how they put that out thinking it would look all cool.
It annoys me when I think of how much potential this game had. We could have had tank only battles and a battle of Britain plane mode where one team is German bombers targeting RAF bases and the other team is in spitfires defending. They have no content for the Eastern front which is ridiculous. A ww2 game without any Russian content is not a proper ww2 game how can you ignore the Eastern front it's crazy so many crucial battles like stalingrad ignored. No normandy or Berlin towards the end of the war dice really messed up this could have provided an amazing ww2 experience like bf1 did for ww1
DICE need to reboot and go back to modern wars. The last game I enjoyed was Battlefield 4 after they fixed the bugs.
Any developer that tells their consumer base "Either buy it, or don't. I'm fine with either" doesn't altogether have the companies financial interests at heart.
Whilst it might not of been a complete disaster sales wise, it was significantly lower than was expected, when compared against Battlefield I and the growth calculation that the big wigs would of initially projected.
Moral of the story: If you're a developer it's normally not a good idea to get caught in the middle of two sides warring over their opinions on a controversial point. Whatever your stance on the subject is, business is still business, and this is a good example of how to destroy your own company if you want to be a moral arbiter. You can't have it both ways.
@Grindagger One factor that Battlefield 1 sold better was that it went up against CoD: Infinite Warfare. Alot of CoD fans who were tired of Activision's B.S. jumped over to Battlefield 1 in the beginning.
I dont buy EA products, especially not when **** devs basically tell consumers to pay up or shut up.
@Genrou Doesnt really account for much when you're talking about EA. Activitision have a bad reputation, EA has a worse one.
@Grindagger It had nothing to do with reputation. CoD players at the time were tired of the direction CoD was going, sci-fi elements, wall jumping CoD was turning more into something like Halo then CoD. Then you had attachments that would really change the physics of a gun it was a mess. CoD players wanted a more traditional military shooter, traditional in the sense of time period and such. They wanted a military shooter that was boots on the ground, based during WWII or even Modern time, not in space. They weren't getting it from CoD that year so alot jumped on the Battlefield bandwagon so to speak..
I knew a couple of co-workers who did just that. They never played a Battlefield game before that but they didn't want CoD: Sci-fi edition. They liked the WWI setting the traditional combat so they bought Battlefield 1. There also were YouTubers who did the same.
By the time Battlefield V hit CoD: WWII was already out so alot of CoD players who were playing BF1 went back to CoD due to them making a more traditional CoD game.
@Genrou Makes sense, I'll take your word for it haven't played cod since its second game, so I tend not to pay attention to any of the releases. I know about battlefield because I used to be a huge 2142 fan. Either way both are fairly scummy companies these days.
@Grindagger I didn't play Call of Duty during Infinite Warfare mainly cause at the time I couldn't afford to buy I still followed it. If interested you can probably google the backlash fans gave IW.
@Batman2049 This! A million times this! How do you have a WWII game with no Normandy, no naval battles, etc. The Eastern Front is ignored. Wow, did they really drop the ball here. Love BF and have been playing for years but may quit the series after this move.
