Kena: Bridge of Spirits is one of the standout games announced for the PlayStation 5 thus far, but it will not be available physically at launch. Responding to a question about the possibility of a retail release, developer Ember Lab explained that it will be looking into deploying boxed copies of the pretty platformer “later on”.
It’s perfectly possible that plans could change prior to launch, of course – especially with this game attracting such enormous attention from both fans and the media alike. Sony has stepped in to help with physical copies of smaller titles in the past, such as Tetris Effect, so don’t rule out that possibility either. We’ll hopefully learn more as PS5’s launch line-up gets locked in.

The waiting game begins.
If it's not too expensive I'll grab it at launch and buy a cheap physical copy later on.
Pity, I'll not be buying it until it has a physical copy.
YEEEEEEEEEES it will have a physical release I don't like digital but I want this game sooooooooooo bad that I won't wait but if it's as good as it looks i'll gladly buy it twice ^__^
Man, this should have been a retail title from the start. It LOOKS like a full, boxed game.
Still really excited for this.
It’s a shame it doesn’t get a day and date release for the digital and physical since I only buy physical and I was definitilly planning on buying this day one. Maybe I’ll make an exception for this instance.
That’s unfortunate for those who want physical. For me, except Switch games, I haven’t bought a physical game in ages (in fact all my PS4 games are digital) so I’ll happily get it digitally on day one.
This game looks too lovely to wait.
This was the highlight of the reveals for me. I can’t wait to play it at all.
@maruse Just curious — why physical for Switch?
I don’t mind digital games now I have 60 disc games my digital collection around 40 games big AAA not into smaller indie games that much so having Kena at launch digitally is perfectly fine with me, in fact if ps5 has the quick resume feature like Xbox SX digital will be better just swap and change game without loading or changing disc.
@doctommaso it has barely any storage, you can barely download breath of the wild.
Also the cases are awesome in my opinion.
I’d nab the physical edition at launch if they released it !!! I really liked what I’ve seen
On the topic of the article: I loved the look of this game, I might wait for the physical whenever that is as there will be a multitude of games I want in the next year, notably demons souls and stray.
It's the only game I'm interested in for the PS5 near launch,so I won't be getting the PS5 until fall 2021. If they do a physical release, it should be ready by then.
@doctommaso Because I like cartridges and the inside art that most Switch games have. Also because —most times— there’s no need to install the games, except when the game doesn’t come complete.
With PS4 games you need to install the games on the HHD anyway which kind of makes the disc redundant/useless. That’s the reason I decided to go digital with PS4.
I'll wait for physical. As long as I don't end up having to spend €30.00+ for delivery from LRG.
does this mean the ps4 version won't be available? i was going to get that and then take advantage of the free upgrade.
N.i.c.e cant wait for this game.a masterpiece incoming.word up son
Damn, more of a wait for me then, I hate buying digital.
I'm extremely interested in this one, but I'm going to wait for the physical release as well. In part because I want to buy it as a gift for my wife.
@Shepherd_Tallon My go too shop for physical indies the shipping is a crime indeed. 😢
I always buy physical only so i will wait first.
I really hope the digital version is a day one launch title. This is my most wanted PS5 game and will hopefully be the first game I play on my shiny new console.
I plan to buy this game twice at full price, on day one for both digital and retail!
This game needs the community's love and support big time if we ever wish to see more Ember Labs games.
