If you’ve got a pair of earbuds with a microphone designed for an older Apple product, then it’s worth pointing out that you can now use them for voice chat when plugging them into a PlayStation 5 controller. When plugged into the DualShock 4, these types of earphones could previously only receive sound, but now you can use their microphone as well, like any other headset.
Apple used a slightly different standard to other earbud manufacturers, which rendered the microphone incompatible with the PS5. That’s now been fixed with the DualSense controller.
If you’d like to know more about connecting earbuds to your DualSense, then you can learn more in our guide through here: How to Use Headphones and Earbuds with PS5 and PS4 Controller. Also, if you are connecting a microphone to your controller, then don’t forget to mute it when you don’t want to be heard: How to Mute PS5's Microphone.

I mean I don't use voice chat, so idc, but it's still nice.
Great, so now I can relive the “oh sh-“ moment whenever my mic defaults to being on.
Anyone know if bluetooth headsets work for PS5 like Bose?
"older Apple product" lol, game consoles these days got courage having a headphone jack.
But PS4 DS4 did work with old apple products with the microphone? Even the old one we found under the porch after possibly years.
So does the Dualsense have a mic built into it?
@ellsworth004 yes
@theheadofabroom thanks for the reply! Thats a pretty cool feature, sometimes i just dont wanna wear a headset.
@Jaz007 well with mine it did not. I also now the reason why. If you wanna know... it’s because the jack on 3.5mm earbuds on iphones is “inverted”. Not physical since jack still points outwards but the “rings” are not.
One handles sounds and the other one handles the mic. You could hear game audio if you were using them in your ps4 controller but people could hear you badly or with a wizz.

Probably not happening. It's highly likely sony and MS won't support bluetooth headphones at all because bluetooth does not support high quality stereo audio with a microphone. When you use a microphone the bluetooth profile switches from A2DP (high quality stereo profile) to HSP and you're limited to 64kbps audio up and down. It's fine for bluetooth headphones where you can use the A2DP profile while listening to music and the headphones switch to the HSP profile when you receive a call, so you never have to suffer through 64kbps music and wonder why your $200 headphones sound like $10 90's earbuds.
But in a game console where chat and game audio is mixed it doesn't make any sense to switch profiles all the time, so you'd have to use the HSP profile at all times and the sound quality would be terrible.
So instead both sony and MS decided not to support bluetooth headphones on this gen, and it's not likely to change since 7 years later bluetooth STILL doesn't support high quality stereo audio+mic. Any wireless headphones you use on PS4/Xbox one are NOT using bluetooth, not because both sony and ms are greedy but because bluetooth is terrible for gaming.
Excellent i have piercings so can only wear earbuds.
@Ridwaano - I want to echo @God_of_Nowt
Hats off to you. The best, most concise, summary of Bluetooth profiles I've ever read, and the first time the penny dropped for me why it's not supported on the consoles.
Thank you for your really valuable post on the topic 🤗
That's a relief! Great news.
