Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is looking like an extraordinary update to Insomniac Games’ classic PlayStation 4 superhero romp, and not just because its visuals are otherworldly either! No, the biggest upgrade here is the seeming removal of a reference to Marvel’s Avengers. Zing!

We’re just kidding, we actually think Crystal Dynamics’ co-op title is a ton of fun – but the nod genuinely does appear to have been removed. Greg Miller posted the following video from the PlayStation 5 re-release below, and pointed out that the dialogue when photographing Avengers Tower has been changed:

In the original PS4 game, Spider-Man would say: “They're on the west coast or something. Probably surfing.” However, in the remaster, his dialogue has been changed to: “Avengers Tower, so cool! Too bad they're never around to use it.”

While this was never confirmed as a crossover reference, the events at the beginning of Marvel’s Avengers find the cast based in San Francisco, so many assumed that it was a little Easter egg – especially with Spider-Man set to join the release’s ranks as an exclusive character next year. For whatever reason, it seems Insomniac Games wanted to sever that connection.

We’ll let you come to your own conclusions.
