Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is looking like an extraordinary update to Insomniac Games’ classic PlayStation 4 superhero romp, and not just because its visuals are otherworldly either! No, the biggest upgrade here is the seeming removal of a reference to Marvel’s Avengers. Zing!
We’re just kidding, we actually think Crystal Dynamics’ co-op title is a ton of fun – but the nod genuinely does appear to have been removed. Greg Miller posted the following video from the PlayStation 5 re-release below, and pointed out that the dialogue when photographing Avengers Tower has been changed:
In the original PS4 game, Spider-Man would say: “They're on the west coast or something. Probably surfing.” However, in the remaster, his dialogue has been changed to: “Avengers Tower, so cool! Too bad they're never around to use it.”
While this was never confirmed as a crossover reference, the events at the beginning of Marvel’s Avengers find the cast based in San Francisco, so many assumed that it was a little Easter egg – especially with Spider-Man set to join the release’s ranks as an exclusive character next year. For whatever reason, it seems Insomniac Games wanted to sever that connection.
We’ll let you come to your own conclusions.

It's probably to avoid confusion that this was connected at all. Even the Avengers insignia in that game is completely different, whereas this one basically uses the one straight from the comics. Furthermore, Avengers Game's Spidey is going to be Crystal's own interpretation weirdly enough. I feel like the PlayStation exclusivity would've actually kind of justified itself if it was just Insomniac's version since you can't play this game on Xbox or PC.
I have the game of the year edition on ps4 and it says the same as the new remaster.
I just played it through maybe 4 months ago. Got it on days of play sale. I dont think i banged it out till late june early july. Only played it for 2 weeks though beating it but i didnt play dlc. As im close to 30 years old. I didnt die once through the entire game and thats a first for me. I did play it on easy though. Was real fun game
I wonder if I could patch my brain to also delete all knowledge and references to the SE Avengers game as well...
It’s probably cause the Avengers game was too trash to keep as a reference
@Yaycandy Oh really, that's interesting! So they already removed it?
Maybe insomniacs didn't want anything to do with the avenger game after seeing that game reception.
@Yaycandy Same here. I got the "they're never around to use it" line as well.
This was from a couple months ago.
Probably for the best. I doubt this will happen any time soon, but I would love to see Insomniac make Marvel games outside of Spider-Man. I feel like a single player Thor or Wolverine game could be a lot of fun.
In the meantime, I am happy with more Spider-Man.
@Cheski Santa Monica making a Thor game would be incredible for very obvious reasons
I'd love to see Sucker Punch do either a Hulk or Blade game, or Media Molecule tackle Dr. Strange
Were there multiple options what he could say or the original was already patched to the new line? I have no memory of that west coast line but do remember him saying they're never around to use it when I played Spider-man earlier this year.
@Milktastrophe Originally it had both lines. If you jump up to about 2:50 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXxczGCSmHE&t=181s
Alot of people seem to suggest that the police officer interrupted the full sentence rather than it being entirely removed.
We need a detective on the case! xD
Seeing this just makes me wonder why Marvel never pushed for a shared universe with its IP in games. I'd think having another continuity separate from the films, but common between the games could lead to some awesome moments if they set it up right. I mean, Spider-Man was obviously a stellar game on its own, and I have no doubt they could do other heroes just as well if they gave each their proper attention, so why not try to get something off the ground? Why have Spider-Man, Iron Man VR, and Avengers all release within a couple years of each other and have ZERO relation?
Ign confirmed it was not removed from the game. Just a different line was used that time because of nearby events
Might want to update it since Greg posted an update showing that the line was just cut off due to the police chase.
He left a video of showing that it's still there.
MA was a joke of a game and it's clearly shows as it's lost SE $40-60 million and that's not a good sign is it
It wasn't removed. This post needs to be updated. A sec responded saying it was just a coincidence since a police chase happened to occur at the same time the line was supposed to activate.
@get2sammyb can confirm, as I've literally only just picked this game up a couple of weeks ago, and when I snapped the tower, I had the same VO as above? Seems it's been this way since the other game launched, possibly?
