Bloody hell, it looks like the latest update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla — patch 1.011 — has introduced a rather annoying bug. The aforementioned update focusses on fixes for a huge number of (relatively minor) issues, but somehow, it's also managed to break the game's facial animation system. It's never easy, is it?
The problem popped up on Reddit earlier today, and now that same thread is packed with people saying that they're running into the same bug. We had to try this out for ourselves, and we stumbled across the issue almost immediately. Not every scene in the game appears to be impacted by the bug, but those that are see non-playable characters unable to move their mouths while talking. They just stand there staring into Eivor's soul as words fill the air. It's all horribly unsettling, and obviously rips you right out of the experience.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla has already had its fair share of technical problems, and although many of these issues have been cleared up over the last couple of months, new bugs is the last thing that the open world adventure needs. Here's hoping that it's a quick fix.

I started playing again the other day. My last save was 24th Dec, so there have been a few weeks and a big patch (1.1.1) since then. Unfortunately, I still encountered two bugs within the first hour. Both were side missions in Sciropescire. The mission where you have to help the Blind man and the Lame man to the miracle spring (error : ‘you have to become anonymous...’) and the mission with the King on the hill. Had to restart two times which fixed the issue, thank god.
Some of the side missions are so vague - the miracle spring mission doesn’t give you any markers for example. Luckily, I stumbled upon the Lame guy because he was quite close to the mission marker. But the Blind guy was quite a way away and I only found him by chance because I followed the main road/path. It would have been quite easy to miss if I hadn’t read the letters at the spring. There are so many instances like this, where the game gives no indication that the mission isn’t complete or why. Quite a few times I’ve mistakenly thought the game has glitched but a quick google has showed me what to do next.
Keeps you on your toes, I’ll give it that.
another week another patch zZZZzz
As I read this I got the face break again lol Anyone else notice the game crashing more especially when I finished a mission with Randvi anyway I don't need to talk to her again just finishing up the final story missions and now doing clean up for trophy I have spent 130+ hours with valhalla and I am confident I will break another 20 hours doing clean up while as odyssey I have just shy of 110 hours according to ubisoft they shouldn't keep making it bigger I have more time on my hands compared to gamers with kids and it's still taking me a few weeks.
What is it with modern games and an overabundance of bugs? It's come to the point where'd you be better of waiting for months to get a worthwhile experience.
I just started this again yesterday, at launch I just got bored in Norway and wasn't really enjoying it. This time I've got to England where the game immediately becomes a lot more interesting but yeah I noticed this bug straight away.
Yeah I had this problem this morning. Hope they fix it quick.
Yeah I noticed this right away but i wasn’t sure if it was part of the game at first or not. The reason being is Sigurds mouth didn’t move when he said he’s a god. I was just like oh. ok cool. He has telepathy.
@fR_eeBritney I never had a problem with the blind man quest, but never ending problem with the pig prophecy in cent lol.
Honestly this game is buggier than Unity and it has been from my experience. I enjoyed Odyssey so much so to come to this to experience trophies not popping, and in game progression trackers not properly tracking progress, screen tearing, crashes, bugged mysteries (Prophecy Pig has been bugged since launch and STILL hasn’t been fixed) that prevent 100% completion and main quests not progressing due to AI bugs ect and now lock jaw. It really needed more time. Also I’m sorry but to anyone that does enjoy it then that’s great, but this game is overly long, it just kept going even when they said it was shorter than Oddyssey...I was finished Odyssey in around 60 ish hours...fast forward I’m now at 110 hours in this game and the main story still isn’t over!
@hoffa007 Oh no, I’ve just arrived in Cent and haven’t encountered this side mission yet. I’ll make sure I save before starting 🤞👀🙏
@xIFoxHound I think the main difference between Odyssey and Valhalla is that you could choose to ignore the side missions and viewpoints in Odyssey after a while because there were so bloody many of them and it really didn’t matter (as much as it killed me). But Valhalla is designed in such a way that you want to do everything in each individual area of the map before moving on to the next. Each area is like it’s own miniature AC game with its own completion counter. It works better than Odyssey (for a completist like me) but it also stretches the time between story missions to the point where you forget what’s even going on. I look at the 6 or 7 unexplored areas on the map and all I can think is, ‘Oh god, I’ve got to do this 6/7 more times!’
Wow, this game can’t catch a break can it? I hope this gets fixed ASAP. It’s Unity faces all over again.
Was wondering if I had just never noticed it until today or if the recent patch introduced it. Thanks for the confirmation!
I imagine this is what you get for having a whole team, including testers, work from home (I'm assuming that's what they're doing). Luckily Fenyx seems to be doing better (although I did have one crash in a very random moment today).
I had this bug back in early December so don't think it's the patch that has caused it. I also find ac Valhalla more glitchy than cyberpunk
I went in after the patch was installed, and sure enough, there it was: screwed up facial animations.
And the "Beodoricsworth Raid not completing" bug is still there.
Not to mention that the GPU usage is getting more and more out of hand with each patch.
When the game launched, if you opened the map/inventory, or you minimized the game, the GPU usage would go to 0, which was good (the fans powered down, less noise while you're in menus).
After the previous patch, the GPU usage was still 0 in the menus, but when the game was minimized it was the same as while playing.
After this patch, the GPU usage remains the same weather you're playing, or you're in menus, or the game is minimized.
I wonder what will happen after the next patch... Will we get back to the AC Odyssey on PS4 Pro problem, where the console's fan would take off like a bat out of hell while you were in the menus, so much worse that it was while you were actually playing the game?
Good job Ubi !
Just like Cyberpunk this is one of the best selling and buggiest games of next gen, what a wonderful message the “gamers” are sending!!
I’ve run into an issue where the cursor no longer glides across the world map smoothly, it now jutters roughly. It’s very weird.
@deathaxe All the talent gets headhunted by the big tech corps while they’re still in uni. I’ve seen it myself, Google, Facebook and Microsoft leave slim pickings for smaller companies. The problem with game devs is that everybody who wants to be one doesn’t have the slightest bit of training or experience. You also get paid more with better hours elsewhere in the industry. The only reason anybody wants to work for a video game company is if they’re truly passionate and can sacrifice the money and essentially their lives to work in a hugely volatile industry with little reward. If working conditions were better, workers actually unionised and protections were put in place to combat crunch and workplace harassment, more talent would actually want to work in the industry.
Of course it does 🙄
@fR_eeBritney it's in a small theatre setting near the North of the town near a viewpoint. Good idea on the saving to, good luck hopefully it will work for you.
@JapaneseSonic I enjoy(ed) it heaps more than Valhalla. There are a lot more different things and activities going on and the sense of exploration is great. I also like the vertical exploration as you have, just like in Zelda, to look for paths that you can master with the stamina at hand rather than just pushing X and waiting for the climbing sequence to be over.
@Total_Weirdo I got that before the patch it no longer happens
Already got the platinum, had a few crashes but my experience was generally ok, PS4.
@JapaneseSonic it's a more condensed world and the focus is more on the puzzles than anything else (which is a good thing for me but I can see how it could not be one for someone else). Combat is better than in Valhalla IMO.
There are zero NPCs who aren't connected to the main quest - so I guess it's pretty different.
That said, I completed Bugsnax between Valhalla and this and I think it was a good idea
@The_Real_JMK
Assassins Creed Unity lol
@fR_eeBritney Honestly! That was my mentality, like I felt the need to complete the area before moving on but the activities in those areas are the same as the ones before it so the game is very repetitive...the armour sets from the helix store are more compelling than the main game ones making the vanilla game ones almost redundant and pointless to obtain...I don’t need mastery points from completing the various mysteries that award ones because I almost one shot everything so the aspiration to obtain them just isn’t there (EVEN on very hard) also side note, don’t even get me started on the Cairn mysteries, whoever thought those were fun needs a serious evaluation on what that word actually means. I know it seems like I’m being overly harsh on the game and I get that there will be development issues when working from home but coming back from a year break from AC I thought the game would’ve been at least more compelling, instead it feels like a downgrade to Odyssey, I connected more with Kassandra, some side missions I absolutely loved and found hilarious and most of all, it was a lot more stable in terms of bugs and glitches considering how huge the game was. Maybe it’s a studio issue as well, seeing as this was from Montreal, who knows.
Got to love that Ubisoft polish. 🤪
Looking forward to playing this game but I think I'm just going to wait a few months more for it to be patched again and again
It hasn't just brought back the Unity Bug in Valhalla it has brought back a whole load of issues. The Ingot glitch is still there and you can exploit gold as you could in all previous updates. And this is just typical typical development under the umbrella of one brand.
I've noticed the game crashes way more than before, there are sound issues, levels not loading properly. OWM Open Wold Missions are broken where you have to reload a saved game in order to get the mission to work. But all these issues was in TU 1.1.0 apart from the Unity Bug in Valhalla.
But gamers don't understand to fix a load of bugs and glitches in a game it causes problems elsewhere and that is the Pandora's Box of programming I am afraid. One fix can cause 1 or 3 issues that you didn't have before. But the game is still enjoyable and playable never the less. I've completed the entire story on the XBOX now I am doing the same for the PlayStation, sounds crazy and why bother. Well I know how to do the game by memory and I've waded through the game far quicker than I did on the XBX. Leveled up from 155 to 367 on just over 10 days.
@MonkeyDLuffy19 Yep, ever since the last update, mine is now crashing frequently. As you say, often on completion of a mission or task. I spent 30 mins the other day doing one of those anomolies, only to have the game just crash back to the desktop. I had to do it all over. My first playthrough was fine apart from not being able to interact with Reda. I've started a new playthrough with male Eivor but it was doing the same with exploration at the end of the first playthrough but you've obviously done most of the missions etc so it wasn't as annoying. Fortunately, I do save frequently and manually rather than rely on cloud saves but you still have to redo missions.
@fR_eeBritney Agree with you totally on the side missions. I quite like them making you think a bit with the puzzles etc but a lot of them are like this where you accidentally come across the other part of the quest. I read all the notes that I find but some missions don't seem to have any clues unless I'm missing them.
