One of the most mysterious announcements from Sony's Future of Gaming event last year was Pragmata, a Capcom title revealed for PlayStation 5. It was originally confirmed for 2022, but now we'll have to actually wait another year. As part of a PS5 sizzle reel trailer at CES 2021, the title was confirmed to now be targeting a 2023 release.
That's a seriously long ways off, meaning this project is still probably fairly early in development. As such, we're probably not going to see it as part of any digital events either in the near future. Capcom will be getting its head down as production on the title continues. Let's just hope we don't have another Deep Down on our hands, right?

@Steel76 The thing is, when they do this, people start assuming the projects are in development hell and any time a staff member leaves the team's in chaos and so on and so forth.
You can't really win either way.
This was my single favorite trailer from that ps5 reveal thing a few months back. It looked so modern, and I guess now we know why. Still think developers should work on and finish their games in secrecy and only introduce/hype a month before releasing.
Enough time to completely forget it's supposed to exist
Looking forward to playing this in my nuclear bunker to drown out the war between the Neo Confederacy and Borisland, fought entirely by gigantic humanoid mechas.
Too many games get announced when they really aren't even in development yet. Just floors me to try and advertise a product that's still in pre production. With that said this will still come out before the next elder scrolls or dragon age/mass effect
@Jayslow
I just don't get it. It doesn't seem like the most cost-effective advertising model, for sure. Spend loads of $ to generate empty hype for a game 3 years before it releases. You get an immediate bump, because it's new and people are excited. Then, time wears on, and everyone starts whining 'where is it?'
You don't want to be seen as vaporware, so then you rush out an unfinished shell of your game. Why not just finish the game first, and THEN blow your advertising dollars while the physical copies are being printed? Huge hype, followed closely by the release of the game, seems like the smart way to blow your advertising budget, to me.
@LordSteev Pretty much like movies really.
@Nepp67 true, but movies usually release in a finished state.
@LordSteev Lol that is indeed true
Not even thinking about this then!
I think 1-2 years before it's fine to announce a game. Elder Scrolls 6 was pointless when they haven't finished starfield, as an example.
And if releases sooner, ppffffttt, then it's a plus.
@3MonthBeef See this all the time on sites like this. Most recent example I can think of is that unannounced Sony San Diego team which is believed to be working on Uncharted. A few people stopped working there and there was all sorts of rubbish comments. And that team doesn't even have a name yet!
Could you imagine if it got to 2024 and we hadn't heard a peep out of Naughty Dog?
Maybe releasing around the same time as Deep Down 🙄
Why even announce it!? I will now go out of my way to pretend this never existed.
Unless it has a talking dragon voiced by David Lodge, I don’t really care what Capcom is working on.
So far, but no problem.
I'm waiting!
This was secretly a remake of Deep Down the entire time.
@get2sammyb I think that's fair for Naughty Dog, but who's tracking this development studio that much? Honest question. You have a good line of reasoning, I'm just not sure it applies as well to this specific scenario. All that's even mentioned in this article is Capcom as a publisher.
Its a tough decision to announce a work in progress because backers/investors will want to see what progress is being made..also its very brave too seeing the recent backlash over cyberpunk and how the media and all the keyboard warriors attacked that game..so what are capcom supposed to do? Its another no win situation because there are always people who will be unhappy and by god are we going to hear from them..again..
@3MonthBeef It was a pretty trailer, too. Just not a smidgeon of actual gameplay. As good as it was, I'm sure it will be forgotten by the time the real game sees the light of day.
So I wonder how much it cost them. Not just in money, but in time and manpower diverted from making the actual game.
@Salt_AU as much as I like Cyberpunk, that's the truth. It could have been so much more.
Oh dear. This is vapourware until we hear otherwise as far as I’m concerned, after Deep Down I won’t be getting my hopes up.
Project Athia: January 2022
Pragmata: 2023
Honestly thought it would be the other way around.
I can't stand when companies announce games this far out. I say no more than two years on these big titles.
Looks like it's going to copy Death Stranding.
