Warner Bros. Montreal's long-teased game turned out to be Gotham Knights, a co-op superhero action game starring the extended Bat-family of vigilantes. Instead of the Caped Crusader himself, you'll be playing as Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood in an adventure designed to be played with others. You can tackle it solo, of course, but it's clear there's an emphasis on co-op.
That extends to the combat system too, as you might expect. The studio, which previously brought us Batman: Arkham Origins, is familiar with the series' "Freeflow" brawling, but it's had to make some changes to account for two players. Speaking with GamesRadar, executive producer Fleur Marty explains the team has "entirely redesigned the combat system in order for it to work well in co-op". Those who played the Arkham games should still feel at home, but the combat is "in many ways very different", Marty says.
We're certainly interested to see how it plays in co-op. From what little we've seen so far, it's looking good, with each hero equipped with their own abilities and strengths. Gotham Knights is due for PS5 and PS4 some time this year. Will you be playing it alone or with a friend? Drop into the comments section below.

Not in the least excited about any of these 4 playable characters tbh..
I never thought I would be hyped for this game, but that first trailer with the music and introductions of each character actually piqued my interest.
Looking forward to see how it turns out.
I wish batman arkham knight patched to 60 fps, or at least the publisher gave players option to roll back patch since the disc v1.0 version can actually run 60 fps on ps5 before it was patched
Personally, I've never had a positive solo experience with a game designed for co-op. Is there such a thing?
There's an interesting trend going on with video games trying to move on from established and well-liked characters, onto newer and less developed ones.
We've seen it recently to varying levels of success with Marvel's Spiderman, Marvel's Avengers, Mass Effect, TLOU2, and others I can't recall now.
I'm expecting to see this continue with God of War and there will be others I'm sure.
Personally I'm not as interested in a DC Universe game that doesn't include Batman, especially as thus far the narrative experience doesn't look as strong as the Arkham games. But I'm willing to give it a try as a single player game.
@wiiware
Same for Last Guardian .
So is this a game you play and enjoy in SP mode or is it a game you can play in SP but it's really not developed that way?
If it's the latter then that's a hard pass from me. From everything we've seen and heard (so far anyway) Suicide Squad sounds the same.
Disappointed with both games at this point.
😒
I'm definitely interested, but as a solo gamer, I'll definitely be weighing a number of reviews, as well.
@Atreus97 You make a fair point. If they make the next God of War focused on Atreus that could be very strange and has the potential to be more divisive than TLoU2.
I just hope "redesigned" doesn't mean "ruined"
Really enjoyed Origins but why do I get the feeling that this game will release to middling reviews and vanish without a trace, as if it never existed in the first place?
Imagine the excitement if this was a SP sequel to Arkham Knight.
@Col_McCafferty
Yea, and it's too bad, 'cause both games at least look good in the limited drip feeds I've seen.
@RogerRoger
Hope you are right, but I agree with Keldor the Cursed in that I'm going to have to see several positive reviews before pulling the trigger.
@FatalBubbles
Yeah it won't be popular at all.
That being said, I expect Atreus to be a playable character for at least some parts of the story. If he's not I'd be very surprised
@LordSteev yeah, it's basically going to have end up a completely different game from what we know so far in order for me to be interested in it. I'm more of a DC fan than a HP one but right now I'm far more keen on Hogwarts Legacy than either if the two upcoming DC titles.
@RogerRoger Avengers has a short SP campaign though and in reality isn't it just a warm-up to the main event that is the online MP mode?
@thefourfoldroot And I heard god of war too, there's 4K with 60 fps option in the early version but it's too unoptimized so it's locked to either 4K 30 fps or 1080p 60 fps.
Offtopic. but wheres that PlayStation dude i have a L for him to hold. One and done oops.
I am not joking, I literally forgot this game existed.
I’ll be playing as Nightwing.
Any chance the co-op in this game is local? Because if not, it's useless to me.
@NoxAeturnus I'm of the idea it will support local drop in/out as well as online!
Son of a... totally forgot this game existed. It was great.
@Gaming365247 Well, we did try to warn him!
Pretty obvious they weren't that great, still a suprise result to be fair but they're a level below the Chiefs and Bills and now the Browns as well.
😝
Couldn't believe that first quarter the Browns had.
@Col_McCafferty
I just hope the Harry Potter game doesn't end up being like most non-game licenses. I used to prefer 1st person, but when 3rd is done well, I think I've grown to like that better. Not a huge Potter fan myself, would prefer a more adult version of a magic game. I'd love to see a game based on Malazan Book of the Fallen or something dark like that.
@LordSteev The Division games, even as looter shooters, were completely playable beginning to end, as a solo player. Destiny 2, as well. The Borderlands games come to mind... Diablo 3 was great no matter how you played...
Sounds to me like you simply don't play a lot of co-op games.
@MFTWrecks
Not many. I like a deep story, and focused single player games. Borderlands cartoony graphics hurt my eyes. Diablo 3 was a lot of fun, but I think it was designed single player first, co-op second. Never played Division or Destiny. I thought destiny was a mmorpg shooter, and that just didn't sound all that interesting.
@LordSteev "I like single player games."
[Proceeds to ***** on co-op ones]
Makes sense.
This could be awesome and be the true Batman story arc we have needed since for a long time.
Having three games that focus on the absence of Batman in Gotham city during the rise of night wing, bat girl and robin until the eventual end of robin seeing the return of an older, more grizzled, more violent evolved Batman that finally abandons his code of no killing would be incredible
@MFTWrecks
Oh, I get it now, you just want to be a jerk. Well, have fun with that.
@RogerRoger i recently bought avengers for a tenner and i'm enjoying the single player a fair bit..i have dabbled online for about an hour and its nowhere near as bad as its been made out to be..its not perfect but its no car crash either..
Played through the entire Arkham series for the first time over the last 6 months - cannot wait for more! I just hope this game will be enough to scratch the itch!
@Atreus97 God of War games (or the main trilogies anyway) tend to follow on directly after each other timeline wise. Plus with (spoiler) rocking up at the end of the last one you can see its gonna continue similarly with the new trilogy. Wouldnt be surprised if it spawns some sort of spin off similair to lost legacy though.
I should be excited about this. I’m not. Hope I’ve wrong.
I still am intrigued by the game but will need to see more single player gameplay and reviews.
@Atreus97 I dont mind seeing more different characters there are more then these few characters.
After my favorite Batman trilogy movie i was teased with a new Robin movie and it didnt happen such a pity.
I would love too see a Batgirl or Batwoman game or some other characters. There are more then enough characters too choose from.
I'm looking forward to this game coming out, been reading comics for the first time and been having a blast, love nightwing and batgirl so day one for me... unless it's buggy.
I like the sound of a co-op game set in the Arkham universe.
3 Robins and a Batgirl however, sounds like some dodgy video you would find on Xhamster.
