It was only a matter of time before Zen Studios announced a next-gen version of its flagship digital pinball environment Pinball FX, and in what the studio is billing its “most ambitious pinball project to date”, it’s promising a new Pinball Royale mode, inspired by “battle royale-style gameplay”. There’s no word on platforms right now, but PlayStation 5 seems like a very safe bet.
The press release continues: “The game will feature a new career mode, challenge modes, a clan system, enhanced visuals, and more. Leagues, tournaments, and competitive play have been retooled to bring the community together in unique ways, and live events and seasonal content will mean there’s always something new going on.”
Of course, the tables will always be the star of these games, and Zen Studios is promising “original tables featuring brand-new IPs, which will be revealed in the future”. There are no other details beyond that, but the developer is targeting a 2021 release date, so we expect to learn more in the not-too distant future.

I just want Plants vs Zombies in FX 3! Man, I loved that table.
They also said on facebook that unlike when the game transitioned from 1to 2 and 2 to 3 that the new game won’t allow importing new tables and will require repurchases due to the tables being remade from the ground up. There will also be a new star wars table, presumably based on the mandalorian.
I prefer Pinball Arcade, I grabbed all the Williams table packs before they lost the license for them couple of years back and it's still a lot of fun. Great physics and accurate tables.
I really enjoyed this title on PS3 fun one to play with a group
Battle Royal pinball?! Sign me up!
It would be cool if there was a 2 player mode where you could both play on the same table at the same time, maybe even attack the other players flippers, freeze them, etc. True battle pinball - has this ever existed?
@Badheelman Yes, on the PS3 there’s a game called Pinballistik that features wide tables that can open in the middle and you can shoot your balls onto the other player’s side to make their game more challenging. It’s been a few years since I played it on my PS3, but I remember it being pretty fun and always questioned why Zen didn’t make wide tables or more 2 player options.
Screw this. More VR tables please.
