It's official: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 11th June 2021. Confirmed in the pre-order trailer embedded above, the second PS5 title from Insomniac Games will arrive halfway through 2021 instead of the previously stated launch window. The game will be available for pre-order on the PlayStation Store starting today, and if you choose to commit cash before release, you'll get your hands on a couple of bouses.
Those are the Carbonox armour from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando and the retro-blaster from the 2016 reboot Ratchet & Clank. The former has been updated "with high-definition materials, lighting responses, and ray-traced reflections". The digital deluxe edition, meanwhile, also includes five more armour sets, a Photo Mode sticker pack, 20 Raritanium (an in-game upgrade material), a digital soundtrack, and digital art book. Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony teases more news is coming soon, including the name of the mysterious female Lombax.
"Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a brand-new full-length adventure. When the evil Dr. Nefarious uses a device that can access alternate dimensions to find a galaxy where he always wins, Ratchet and Clank are separated. As they try to re-unite, they will meet a new Lombax resistance fighter, explore new and familiar locales (but with new dimensional twists!), and wield a whole new arsenal of out of this world weapons."
Do you think this is a good date for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart? Let us know in the comments below.

I wouldnโt class June as a release window, but canโt wait for this game!
Lol I just commented about this on other post!
I can't wait for this game! It's my most anticipated game this year, since we never saw anything from God of War!
Hopefully they do a console bundle that I can put my name down.
@Philbop I'm sure they originally wanted to release it earlier but everything gets delayed lately, for obvious reasons.
June is good, I still have to finish jedi fo, division 2 & new york expansion story mode, and genshin impact story.
Oh look another game that the 5 people who arenโt bots that own a PS5 can play.
I'm beyond hyped ! ๐
Hopefully it is easier to obtain a PS5 by then.
@nessisonett know how ya feel. I tried getting a ps5btoday from GAME. What a shambles
THANK YOU Sony.
This is how you do next generation gaming and console release.
I cannot wait. ๐๐๐
I really got into the other Ratchet and Clank games recently so can't wait to play this. Will just have to decide if it's worth paying full price for though. Really hoping that there's plenty more PS5 stock at retailers soon so you guys who haven't managed to get one yet can grab one.
This is now looking good for HZD2
This Christmas 2021.
Considering all the delays and badly released
Games and Covid, this is fantastic.
Wonderful! Can't wait to play this!
Absolutely Hyped for this!Ratchet And Clank is one of my favourite franchises of all time.
Pfft, I don't want it now it's out of the launch window.
Perfect, enough time for the TV iโm after to drop a little in price and grab a PS5.
Ratchet PS5 bundle here I come ๐
Woooooo got my June priority game filled up now
The female lombax is called Ratchette.
Anybody scour the video for โalso available on PS4โ fine print!?!
Nice, this will be a good Xmas 21 game for me once the price has dropped a bit.
Ok so now I have a date by which I need to get a 4k TV by.
Shame there's no special edition with a statue etc. Never interested in those for most games, but would throw hard cash at a R&C one.
@nessisonett kind of funny for me, I live in a third world country but I managed to get a PS5 on pre-sale, I think Sony sent around 2000 units for the first pre-sale. Crazy stuff to be able to get one, not possible in my wildest dreams in the first 6 monts, let alone launch day.
Hopefully Iโll be able to get a Ps5 by then!
@nessisonett Jeez.. lets be honest, scalpers are an annoyance but they're a minority of the sales going through. Demand is outstripping supply.
Its as simple as that.
I've managed to get 3 since launch and of the 20 or so psn friends I have which have a PS5, none have bought from a scalper. Not to absolve scalpers but its becoming a meme with the folk going on about them constantly.
@nessisonett Of all the people you know who has a PS5, how many do you know have got one from a scalper?
@get2sammyb - maybe that's an idea for a poll for the people constantly blaming scalpers for them not having one?
Where did people get their PS5 from? - scalpers or normal shops.
I think the cover is awesome. June really isn't a launch window lol
I love Ratchet & Clank !
Shame this wasn't available at release, but can understand why. Looking forward to it! Always enjoyed Ratchet and Clank, just hope it's not to short.
Pre-order already locked in. Insomniac is really killing it!! Cant wait to play!
My boys are back! ... And mysterious Lombax girl.
I think this will be my first PS5 exclusive purchased game! (all my others are cross gen!)... Only 7 months after getting the console at launch xD
Jokes aside, super hyped for this! Been a fan since 2002!
Digital deluxe editions really are a complete waste of money.
I really hope I have a PS5 by then! Looking forward to this game, but thereโs no point in me preordering if I donโt know if Iโll have a PS5 or not to play it on!
@Voltan aye I know, itโs frustrating but itโs the world we live in at the moment and need to get used to it I guess. Iโd rather wait and have a complete game and not a rushed mess
Excellent news, now we just need a GT7 & GoW release date please, seems to me like release window must be 12 months ๐คฃ
N.i.c.e to one of my favorite video games franchises ever.thats a good date.game looks amazing.word up son
Nice, NOW..........GT7 release date Please!
I'm just here to chuckle at the fact that photo mode stickers are considered deluxe items these days.
Love how they managed to fit BOTH protagonists on this wonderful box art...Ubisoft could take some notes here
I canโt wait for this.
I guessed late Q2 on the other article and I was actually right for once.
Can't wait.
Perfect. Any earlier and it butts up against returnal and Resident Evil Village, whereas it can breath in June. Only issue is i had May to June down for Forbidden West's release window, so now its unlikely we will see that before September at the earliest
FINALLY YES ! June can't come soon enough
Hi there fellow gamers.
We finally have a release date! At last.
June 11th is now marked on my calendar along side Returnal, Guilty Gear Strive and Deathloop.
Now please, can Sony gives us the realease dates for GT7 and Horizon Forbidden West? And Maybe God of War Ragnarok to?
Just so we kow what we can count on.
Thanks in advance Sony Playstation.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming to us all
Heads up for anyone wanting to preorder physically - The Game Collection has it for ยฃ62.95.
Hardly a steal, but a tad better than ยฃ70!
I pre-ordered for ยฃ58 after using some of my points accumulated over time with them.
This could well be the point I buy a ps5.
If I can find one by then that is!
Ratchet & Clank baby! This is one of the few games I donโt mind pre-ordering with how good Insomniac has been lately and my love for this franchise.
Iโm loving how quickly the exclusives are pumping out to start the PS5โs lifecycle. Looking forward to playing this and Returnal very soon.
June is good, means it can be $20 by Black Friday. Make for a nice Christmas morning.
I'd buy a PS5 bundle for $500 Jun 11th if it included a code for the game, free is good. Considering the chip problem no longer expecting any good deals before Christmas now though.
If Sony can wait 7 months to release a launch window game, I can wait another 7 months to buy it.
I wish I had time to play it Nearly finished Day's Gone now but still got 9 PlayStation games to play. Life is hard
Pre-ordered it at my local games store (I'm a physical guy ) when it was first announced. June can't come soon enough. Now we need a Gran Turismo release date. When, Sony? When!? Oh, the agony!
@solocapers 100% Agree. While scalpers are A part of the problem, they are not THE problem. This is a popular but false narrative that keeps being bandied around.
The problem is the demand, amplified by covid lockdowns, low yields and a lack of certain components and materials.
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/02/scalpers-arent-the-main-reason-you-cant-find-a-new-console/
@Danloaded Yep, was there for it opening for orders and still didnโt get one. Site crashed during checkout and then it was out of stock.
@themightyant Interesting read. Even if we believe the numbers of the author (admittedly obtained through as scientific an approach as they could muster) 15% of the supply is nothing to ignore (and the article freely admits this) In fact if another 1 out of 5 users on this site were able to get a PS5, complaints would calm down a decent amount, Iโd venture.
Basically, two wrongs donโt make a right . In fact, I would argue in a supply constrained world where each Unit is scarce due to high demand and constricted supply that itโs the exact perfect scenario to call for a cessation of anything that adds additional strain to the system such as scalping. If scalpers and bots are blocking legit purchase of apples or kale then Iโm not going to complain. When itโs adding extra strain to admittedly severe shortages thatโs the very time to be intolerant of it being in practice (in my humble opinion)
Also - Sure, money-grabbing scalpers are easy enough to vilify, but take into account that people have actually had to become dedicated online stalking experts to obtain one is also part of the story. Users on here in the forums (and someone up there in this thread) are getting multiple units and giving or selling them to family and friends. Everyone keeps telling me how easy it is to get them and itโs just not my reality. The system is broken.
Nice that no other games we know of are coming out in june so Ratchet will have some time to shine
What's the point in commenting that you don't own a PS5?
Can't wait for this. Any release date is a good date.
Fingers crossed that by the fact that Sony is putting this out there in June that means they're optimistic that they'll have a lot more PS5s sold into the hands of actual gamers by that point. It would be foolish to release it when almost no one still has one, and therefore no one buys it at full price.
I'd love to actually own a PS5 so that I can buy it at release, but I'm not going to get too hopeful any more.
THANK YA LORD!!
@Th3solution I agree the system is broken.
I see that box.com is doing a ballot for their next round of xbox's which could be seen as a fairer solution and step in the right direction.
However this is by email, which is easy to bulk create with scripts and have multiple entries, so is again flawed and in scalpers favour. It's a shame they don't do it my postal address or postcode which is much harder to fake.
Re: the numbers of scalpers. As I said at the top they are A problem I just don't think they are the main problem. The 15% is also a little deceptive too however as it presupposes that there would normally be 0% being resold which isn't the case.
There is usually a certain amount of reselling going on, some of it completely valid and this is normal e.g. people unimpressed with their purchase or who have fallen on hard times since purchase, purchasing two to make sure they get one, as well as other reasons, it's not just scalpers.
Regardless I DO think the value is higher than normal and I do think that an additional 1 in 10 or 20 (likely more realistic than 1 in 5) would help, but it wouldn't be the cure.
I wish you luck in your hunt.
@themightyant Thanks, and I guess weโll just add it to the broken system that is the distribution of the COVID vaccine. Same situation, higher stakes. At least in the States here itโs like the same swarms of people are stalking every distributor imaginable trying to get on waiting lists for a chance at the vaccine. Thereโs just not enough of it.
Anyways, back on topic - Iโd definitely buy Ratchet & Clank on release if I had a PS5. Do you hear me Sony? Send me console and Iโll happily buy your game on day 1! ๐
June is right around the time I figured we'd get the game. Don't know if it's really 'launch window' but it's a heck of a lot sooner than we got R&C for PS4 so this is fine with me. Day one purchase, obviously.
I got a PS5 pre- order in but it took a lot of time and persistence. Started trying at 5PM when sales started to go live. I stayed online till I got a order in at 3AM. I had full intentions to go to a local store and line up at 4AM.
Always been x box but now have a PS5 and therefore Iโve never played Ratchett and Clank ever.
Is the PS4 one worth playing through?
Gets decent reviews and itโs free on PS Plus but just wanted someoneโs opinion
No limited editions so I'll be monitoring retail prices and order when it's low enough (or just before launch)
An update from Playstation Blog clarifies that you will be able to purchase a deluxe upgrade from the PS Store, for those of us who still prefer buying physical copies!
โFor those of you who like physical discs, donโt fear, as there is an upgrade option for owners of the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Standard Edition to allow you to purchase the content included in the Digital Deluxe. For both physical and digital versions of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, there will be an in-game menu prompt guiding players to make the upgrade through PlayStation Store.โ
@Hurblyburbly
I'd say it's worth playing through. Easily in my top 10 PS4 games, maybe top 5.
@Hurblyburbly it was my first platinum trophy and I absolutely loved it
@AFCC @PSfanboy1992 Majorly hyped! I am going to replay Ratchet & Clank PS4 first, hopefully Insomniac will release a free PS5 upgrade by May.
I plan on having Rift Apart delivered to my house on release date, thank you Best Buy. Amazon is seriously slacking with delivering games on release dates.
@Th3solution It's so sad. I've only heard terrible things from my American friends about the constant online hunt to get the vaccine.
We're way off topic now, but far more important than your hunt for a PS5 best of luck with your hunt for the vaccine for you and yours.
Here in the UK, while we've generally handled the pandemic badly, the rollout of the vaccine has, thus far, been very good with none of the personal chasing you have to do. Instead the NHS (our National Health Service) has identified people by age and with elevated risk and are busy vaccinating them at a pretty rapid rate.
Fingers crossed for all.
Oh yes, my body is ready.
p.s. The Guilty Gear strive steam and ps store pre-order page is up for everyone now.
@KidBoruto I think I will play all Ratchet games until june! Mega hyped, the game looks so good
Excellent that's summer games sorted and Back 4 Blood as well.
FINALLY. This is not exactly what I consider "Launch Window" Best news I have heard all week. Only thing that would make this better? Re-release the first game with new trophies to go along with the new game on PS5
@nessisonett Salty much? Seriously.
@rjejr If June is what they meant by Launch Window, I wonder what they meant for GoW2, HzD2, GT7 "2021"? They'll only have 6 months to deliver the entire launch roster as stated. Maybe it's like Year of Dreams. Year 1 PS4, coming soon, FF7R....(arriving in about 7 years....)
@NEStalgia None of those are coming out in 2021. If GoW2 does it's only b/c it's like an 12 hour part 2 of 3 filler game and the trilogy won't end for another 3 years.
@rjejr Isn't that every game?
@NEStalgia No, not like that.
@rjejr gow2, hzd2, Spiderman 2.33368, gt7, got2 (essentially confirmed)......tlou3? Probably. Sony sure fell into the sequelitis hard. No wonder they needed to give away all the ps4 games. You couldn't play any ps5 games without them!
Assuming there are ps5 games. Which there aren't, except for r&c 7 months after launch....
@NEStalgia Well I still haven't' played GoT so I'm not sure how it ends, but I'm not talking about sequels, I'm talking about literally the first part of a game. B/c despite what everyone else around here says, if you make a game that has a hub device that can take you to 8 other worlds, but in the first part of the game you can only go to 5 of those, and the whole game is leading up to fighting the biggest baddest Norse gods, but you never fight any of those, it isn't a stand alone game, it's part 1.
TLoU2 had a hard ending. It didn't need a sequel. I'm fine that it got one, another game I haven't' played yet, but the first game ended fine. Same for the Uncharted games. I'm fine w/ sequels, I'm a big James Bond guy, and none of those were sequels, until the new movies, and the more sequelly they got, the worse they got, but for the most part, sequels don't necessarily mean a game or movie is broken up into parts.
And are you really complaining about Sony making video game sequels when the biggest games in the business are CoD and FIFA? ๐
@rjejr cod and fifa don't have any sequels. It's just been remasters and mods of the first game for decades.
Funny you'd mention bond, I just finished hitman 3 and have always loved the bond vibe of it. I'm going to miss hitman. One of the best games off the decade. Shame it's going away for a while. But I'm psyched about the same team working on an actual bond game!
Also isn't calling GoW episodic a bannable offense around here? . It's not episodic, it's just conclusionally challenged.
@NEStalgia "Also isn't calling GoW episodic a bannable offense around here?"
I believe so, which is why I didn't call it that, I just heavily implied it. ๐
And some day when all the games are done, 2, 3, 4 how ever many, and people play it all on the PS6 8k remaster and go "Wow, it's like playing 1 long game, who knew?" my ghost will come back and haunt them w/ booing sounds of 'I kneeeewwww, I kneeewwww.'๐ป
@Playstation "Also, a 12 hour game isnโt โfillerโ"
That's a very overall generic statement. GoW 3 was only about 6 hours long. Most people complained about the length for a $60 game, but everybody played it anyway b/c GoW.
The new GoW was about 40 hours or so, probably much longer if you tried to beat all of the Valkyries and other side stuff. So if a new game cam eout at only 12 hours and dind't end w/ you battling Thor or Odin, then the 3rd game comes out and it's 40 hours and you get to fight both Thor and ODin, then yeah, that 12 hour game is going to look like filler.
Though I do think it's been long enough, as you say, 4 years, that this won't be the case, if it doesn't end the story hopefully we can at least end it by killing Thor, I don't think in the land of videogames you can generalize about length being the determining factor in what's filler. Not that it can't be a factor, Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty was 5 hour filler between 4 and 5, or 3 and 4, or something, but it wasn't a full game, even if it did have a beginning, middle and end, it was filler between the full games.

@rjejr the Netflix miniseries seems to be the template for gaming. I'm not enjoying it. And it's only a matter of time before Firefly becomes that template.
Or is it series? To me a series starts in October and ends in May Sweeps and has about 20 episodes unless there's a writers strike. Not sure when we started getting "series"that start in February into April.
@NEStalgia "Netflix miniseries"
Frist, NF doesn't do "miniseries", as you pointed out, they just do "series". (Really "seasons" here in the US, in the UK they call a "season" a "series" and every year they have a new series of the same show and it took me about 3 years to figure that out.) But second, they don't start in February and end in April, on NF they start at midnight and end at 12:01. Every "season" on NF - whether it's 8, 10 or 12 episodes, releases all at once. Disney, HBO, Amazon et al do the once a week thing whenever they feel like it. You're welcome. ๐
@rjejr IDK last time i watched a tv seriason, ALF was still trendy. . Maybe Home Improvement. Not much beyond that aside from a few dvd sereason sets i bought later.
I'd say I'm old and out of touch, but mostly it's just that I'm a gamer.
@NEStalgia So, you're complaining about short and out of season tv series even though you haven't watched TV since the 90's, not b/c TV is bad, but b/c you spend your time gaming. Did I read that right? ๐
24 hours in a day, 7 days a week, plenty of time for both TV and gaming if you wanted to. Not that you should, most tv sux. but most games sux too so...
@rjejr I'm complaining that modern TV sucks more than old TV so I don't watch it because I spend my time gaming because TV sucks and games suck less and get off my lawn and why is there a cloud in the sky.
Haha, if I had 24/7 for games and TV I'd be happy. I guess that's called "government employee." Sounds like a win!
Games don't sux. They eventually don't sux, after about 3 years, 15 patches, and the rest of the content being released. TV just sux foreverz.
@NEStalgia I'm pretty sure 99% of the games on mobile sux forever, and 100% of the games released by RCMDIAX on Wii U. ๐
@rjejr I'll see your RCMDIAX and raise you a Jersey Shore.
@NEStalgia Coin toss. But I'll give it to Jersey Shore b/c you can probably watch it for free somewhere, gotta pay for the games. Unless Nintendo starts making them part of the paid NO subscription. ๐
