It had been roughly half a year since Sony last put on a proper State of Play showcase packed full of announcements, so this latest livestream was most certainly a welcome one. The hardware manufacturer focused on 10 PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 games, some of which had been previously confirmed while others were entirely new. As such, we got a good look at a wide range of upcoming titles.
Brand new game announcements included Sifu and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (Sort of), while Solar Ash was treated to a deep dive complete with gameplay footage. Oddworld: Soulstorm also put in an appearance, and so too did Kena: Bridge of Spirits. As always though, we want to know what you thought of Sony's latest State of Play presentation. Was this one for the ages or will you have forgotten all about the PS5, PS4 reveals come the morning? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

FF7R and kena saved it for me. But my expectations where set so low that I had to answer very good.
Same as we seen before although Kena again stole the show.
I'm glad Solar Ash, Kena and Oddworld got release dates and FFVII Remake Intergrade was a nice surprise but didn't really connect much with anything else
My expectations were low, but damn... Wish I hadn't stayed up late for that
Maybe I expected too much. This was below average at best. Really poor and unneccessary event.
That was very boring
No Breath of the Wild 2. Truly disappointing.
I was hoping to see something on Horizon Forbidden West maybe a release date in the least but I guess that'll get the solo SoP treatment.
Kena and Soulstorm both look great really, would be neat if they put that photomode in the PS4 version of FFVII.
I thought it was good. I'm interested in everything they showed.
That was underwhelming to say the least. Woof.
It was fine. Solar Ash looks awesome and I'm all on board for more FF7.
Bummer having to wait longer for Kena though.
Well I lowered my expectations after the Nintendo direct last week.
So it was ok, average nothing special.
2 exclusives we knew about
1 remake
The rest indies and multi platform.
Was mildly entertaining.
Well, I learnt that I've been pronouncing yuffie incorrectly for the last 20 years
Well I had no expectations therefore I'm fine
This was a joke compared to the ND last week, and that wasn't great either. XD At least there's Returnal and Deathloop.
It was good for me. I wanted to see Returnal, Kena and Ratchet & Clank.
Disappointed R&C weren't there, The FF7 stuff was a nice surprise.
Eh, it was underwhelming. But not horrible. And no PS+ announcement?
State of Disappointment.
awfull.
realy no need for a state of play if this is the result.
returnal already looked good so the only thing was ps5 FF7 for free. but that could have just gotten a announcement on it's own.
also weird for sony to delay the march plus games reveal and still not show it on a state of play BUT revealing a plus game for april.
Pretty underwhelming. Hardly any new announcements I can think of except for Sifu. It was nice to see Solar Ash gameplay finally, and it looks good. Returnal and Kena are coming along nicely.
Pretty meh overall.
We didn't get any info on stray! My lid is flipping!
Also I predicted that we'd get info on returnal, kena, fnaf and oddworld so that was nice.
Kena looks great, I'm also glad I haven't play FF7R yet. But other than that there was nothing for me.
Garbage. Kena has my interest. Hate what they’ve done with 7 Remake.
Wasn't expecting anything new, so pretty decent. Solar Ash Kingdom and Kena look amazing.
Again the internet never learns from these things. Ultimately it was a State of Play about games coming in the first half of the year rather then big announcements. The only legitimate disappointment was there wasn't any Ratchet and Clank.
Very, very underwhelming during the first half. The second half with Kena, Deathloop, and Remake was MUCH better.
Apart from Deathloop and free Oddworld on PS5 with PS Plus it wasn’t for me. Not enough story driven gaming for me!
Surprised we saw nothing of Horizon, ratchet and clank or God of War. New odd world looks great and Kena
Meh. I was waiting for an announcement on ps plus / ps now, given the former hadn’t announced the games. No such thing unfortunately. A few of the games look good but I don’t buy games day one so don’t much care about new release dates.
Never liked oddworld, hate stealth and puzzle platformers, so learning that would take up a plus slot in April was disappointing.
That was a complete waste of time
That wasn't great. Kena is looking good at least.
What are the PS+ games for March? I‘m confused.
Kena looks beautiful so I'm excited for that, and I didn't catch FF7 on PS4 so will hold off for the PS5 release. I have no idea why that dodgy looking dodgeball game keeps getting promoted but whatever. Returnal looks less appealing to me every time I see it as well if I'm honest. Overall pretty lackluster.
Nothing shown warranted a State of Play, and where is the PS Plus games announcement ?
Not bad, but we still dont know what we're getting for ps plus this month.
Incredibly bad. These should be events, not filled with the sort of trailers we see on this site every single day.
FFVII Remake PS5 is welcome. But not Yuffie, eck.
Didn't watch it. Did I miss anything worthwhile?
Sifu looked brilliant. Kena and deathloop are the other standouts. The rest.......
Where's the PS plus update?
Ouch!! Atrocious showcase. Really disappointed. They must've known this would be extremely underwhelming. Yawn. Where the hell is the PS+ March announcement too? Cutting it fine!
Kena is looking real swell. FFVIIR free upgrade was a nice surprise, I thought SE would defo make us fork out for it again with the added stuff.
Worth it for Kena (release date later than expected), oddworld ps plus announcement and FF 7 upgrade + dlc.
Surprised there was no Ratchet and Clank, making me feel another SOP won't be too far off
Deathloop looked cool, and i hate myself but i quite enjoyed the FNAF trailer. Solar Ash is interesting but looks like it could get repetitive quickly. Returnal looked interesting - but not £70 interesting
It's meh.
Returnal might be an interesting game, though.
Worst State of Play to date.
Only real announcement was a (barely) upgraded version of FF7R, lol.
The recent Nintendo Direct sucked, and it was still a good deal better than this.
At least Kena still looks great, although the delay sucks.
Running commentary...
Crash 4 - still isn’t fun to play.
Returnal - looks great.
Knockout City - feels like a cross between Sunset Overdrive and Fortnite with a dodgeball twist 👍
SIFU - is a console seller (a PS2 console that is...).
Solar Ash - if Grow Up and Journey To The Savage Planet had a baby.
Five Nights At Freddys - thought this was a movie tie in for Willy’s Wonderland. Never mind.
Oddworld Soulstorm - another oddworld game...
Kena - looks amazing. Could be a Pixar animation honestly.
Deathloop - not this game again 🙄 ...stop trying to make Deathloop happen! It’s not going to happen!
FFVII - haven’t played it. Not sure if I want to now. Did the graphics really look that rough on PS4...? Sceptical...
And... that’s it. That’s it? That’s really it. Oh man... worst State of Play so far honestly.
FF7 Remake news was hilariously convoluted, have no idea when the PS5 upgrade is live but I hope it’s not June like the dlc! Kena looks better than a free ps+ title so would appreciate it if we stopped asking for such. Deathloop stole the show with a trailer that would make IO blush and start taking notes
This was the worst showcase I've seen yet.
Sometimes I think it is better to show nothing, than to show nonsense in hopes to buy time.
Just out all the delays about to hit now, and honor those that invested in your new system,.... a system missing a bunch of features at launch and now that it was advertised to have :/
Well it sold me FF7, nice to know Oddworld will be available on plus in April.
Kena looks interesting.
Still no plus announcement, i'm starting to think it was going to be Anthem but as soon as they announced they were stopping development they pulled it.
There must be some issue to wait or the line up is so bad they don't want any rage.
What was there? 1 PS5 only game and 1 addon to a PS4 game?
Stuff shown at the PS5 showcase months ago?
PS5 is just not getting anything new.
It's almost like there has been over 12 months of a global pandemic that has really affected this industry! Ps5 upgrade for ff7 is enough for me to hold off playing and thought both kena and odd oddworld looked good. Deathloop looks fun too, love the 70s bond villain lair vibe the environments have.
It was pretty boring. I mirror the sentiment of others in saying that these could of all just been blog posts or something. Odd world being free for ps plus in april was a nice surprise but other than that it was pretty lackluster.
yeah the lack of plus games reveal is rather concerning. now we atleast know it won't be anything big. so why not reveal it yesterday?
It was pretty bad apart from Kena - though unfortunately it didn't really tell us anything more about it - but then the 7R bit and the Yuffie DLC alone made it more than worthwhile.
I don't get why people were expecting AAA titles. Sony never said that. Solar Ash and Kena look amazing. Returnal is going to be awesome. FF7 looks awesome, and Deathloop looks like a fun time. Oddworld even looks fun and I've never played one of those games.
Sifu was a awesome surprise as well.
The only bad game was Knockout City.
Ratchet will get it's own State of Play before it comes out so their's no worry their.
A good State of Play in my eyes.
Voted poor, which was about 3 steps up from my thoughts on the ND last week.
PS5 just launched and at least half were PS4 games.
Nobody expected GoW but they needed to end w/ R&C or HFW, not a free upgrade plus paid dlc.
Glad it was only 30 minutes, not 50, the games were there - Returnal, Kena - but this will be judged more by those that weren't. And the lack of PS+ news.
What's the big secret in not telling us what the March PS Plus games are, Sony? Redeem yourselves for that truly awful State Of Bore by giving Disco Elysium Final Cut as one of the games next week.
I demand it.
Excited for Kena.
FFVII Remake getting DLC rather than a full installment... where theres a shock that no one expected......... oh wait.
I wasn't expecting much but it was even worse then I feared, at least show Ratchet and Clank if nothing else
Met my expectations. People expecting a five AAA announcements were crazy. Excited for FF7R DLC, Kenya, and Returnal.
I think Destruction all stars is staying another month like bugsnax.
As with most things in 2021 - a big MEH
Found it odd that Deathloop didn't have the May 21st release date at the end of the trailer. Possibly delayed again?
I expected it to be crap.
And it was crap.
it seems that it will be a rough first year for ps5..if you own a ps4 pro i really don't see any reason to upgrade right now..
Glad to see FF7 upgrade and expansion and Kena looks like a great game. Also looking forward to Returnal but the price tag scares me.
Nothing that peaked my interest
@Balosi Blame the way they localised the name. It's Yufi in Japanese but in English they went with a double 'f' so you've being pronouncing it right based on that - like, you wouldn't pronounce "stuffy" as "stoofy," right?
@Mpquikster Why, because it has a female protagonist and... Trees? Combat? Graphics? Yeah, virtually indistinguishable.
Was okay but I was hoping for more.
Was really hoping we’d set a surprise PS Plus announcement. When are we going to know?
@Machines *piqued
Least we got a release date for FFVII on PS5.
Glad I didn't waste my time, it's been a horrible month for Sony.
I don't have huge expectations but I'm left wondering why they even do these events. The only thing that really interests me is Kena and that was a delay announcement. If we have a couple of more SoP like this I'll probably stop watching and just catchup on Push Square after.
Was pretty meh, Kena, Solar Ash look really good, Oddworld free for PS5 Plus owner was a good surprise, and Yuffie! But I never want to see anymore of that Dodgeball game, yikes.
Also whats the deal with the delayed March PS+ games announcement, very weird.
Kena looks great by artstyle and gameplay, but only 30 fps? I hope there will be a 60 fps mode, but I have a bad feeling about this. The last big game with 30 fps will be BotW 2.
@Matroska whoop whoop Grammar police
With the Oddworld ps+ announcement tying into Ryan saying about how they know the fans love new games for ps+, prob is a distraction meaning March will be a poor selection.
@Dezzy70 Exclusives? Sony don't do them anymore my friend or haven't you heard?
😉
Yeah, Kena apart none of those games interest me. I already own a copy of Final Fantasy VII but maybe I'll wait until I get a PS5 before starting it.
#teamkena
This looks awesome...can’t wait
That livestream chat was disgusting and embarrassing to look at. I was also right. A bunch of indies. I hope kena is as polished as it looks because it also looks so fun. And the more i see of returnal, the more I'm hoping it turns out to be a gem because that gameplay looks extremely good
If it wasn't for Yuffie's unbuttoned shorts I'd say it was as boring as the recent direct
I didn't expect much, but I was still left somewhat disappointed. Definitely looking forward to Kena and Sifu, though.
I always go in watching these things with low expectations but still always feel dissapointed.
The only thing that excited me was obviously Kena Bridge Of Spirits...so glad it finally has a release date!
Yuffie add on for Final Fantasy IV Remake looks great but I doubt it will be a long adventure but even so I'll upgrade just for that.
The only other time I nearly got excited was when she said something like 'Do you like playing Scary games?'..and instead of showing Resident Evil they continued to show something not scary at all..oh well.

You know what the problem is with the State of Play format?
Sony always sets expectations and meets them.... to a fault, they really don’t leave a whole lot of room for surprises and the surprises they do have for the format are generally underwhelming
Which I feel leads to an issue that I’ve had with Sony for a long time now is that they save ALL of their big surprises and announcements for E3 season, they don’t spread announcements evenly throughout the year and as a result we’re left with long info drought periods
It was pretty "meh", huh? Sifu was a nice surprise and Kena is looking pretty good but it was an average showing at best. Probably why Sony announced it out of the blue: no mayor announcements so no reason to hype it.
Sefu and Kena were the ones that's, interested me, but I also liked the look at the new DLC for FF7 remake
They have a great format here, they just need to stop being either stingy/overly obsessed with grandiose events
It was fine but what sucked the most was the FNAF announcement.
Meanwhile, Naughty Dog is enjoying life in the stone ages of gaming where a developer can avoid updating their blockbuster game with multiplayer or next-gen enhancements almost a year after release!
I mean what did people expect for a showing of all 2021 games? They could have showed some AAA games that are releasing in 2-3 years to add hype but then people would just complain about waiting so long. It was an ok showing especially considering everything shown is coming this year. Plus everyone keeps the major announcements for E3 time anyway.
did it meet my expectations? yes, in that i didn't have any, and that's what i got. kena looks pretty nice, but gloss wiped off that with the reveal it's still 6 months away. almost everything else, i don't care an iota for, exactly as expected. returnal still doesn't look like a 70 quid game.. and the whole "every time you die, you come back and the world is different" mechanic sounds like you need to finish the game in one life.. which could get pretty frustrating and/or repetitve, and doesn't suggest to me that it's a long game.
@2cents probably want to release upgrade at same time as factions mode. Its coming. Surely?
@Mpquikster Really? All they have in common is the lead protagonist is female and has a bow. Completely different art styles, setting, enemies and story.
I guess you think all games in which you play as a male with a gun are the same.
😒
@Machines Well more like "the meaning of the words you're using" police, but yep. You're welcome.
It was okay. I try to not go in with high expectations anymore and try to focus on what was shown and not what wasn't.
Returnal continues to impress.
Kena still looks good.
Sifu looks like an awesome mash up of Bruce Lee, Old Boy, and The Raid.
And absolutely stoked with the FFRemake upgrade, bought that day one and still not played it, so yeah.
I suppose I’m the only one who had realistic expectations and was satisfied 😕
It was ok.no ps plus announcements.and ratchet and clanks etc.word up son
It's strange, all the games coming out cost more yet look worth less. There's not anything there that I'd consider for over £30. At least there's RE Village in May and Abe's Generic Title I've Already Forgotten will be a nice + game in April.
No, not really. Happy to see Kena got a release date though. Anyway; WHY aren’t the PS PLUS games announced. I thought since they missed it yesterday something big was gonna happen today
Thought it was pretty crap but I got my Kena release date sooooooo I guess i'm happy (shrug)
Not even Trevor could have saved this borefest.
Honestly, if they didn't mention what platform it was for I would have thought it was a preview of upcoming mobile games. The fact that this is what's being introduced for the first year of a new console is amazingly underwhelming. With the exception of maybe Returnal, none of these games will use even a quarter of the PS5's processing capability.
So are we not getting PS+ games in March? 🤔
garbage state of play. did not need to exist. there were no new game announcements worth a damn.
No PC Ports SONY?!?! I am disappointed(well according to Jim Ryan that is all REAL PlayStation Fans want) ( i really need to let this go...) Good show. LOVE the look of Kena (I see it's for PS4 to. Hmm, are we ever going to jump to real next-gen games??? that are really only possible on PS5??? Ok, hopefully R&C is the first)
Was pretty meh, no real point to it, I'll definitely get FF7 since I don't own it yet and it's been on my list but hardly any kind of show stopper
Apart from Oddworld Soulstorm being free (and it is going to be amazing), and Kena, nothing else was really that great.
@ThePizzaMule
If there's one thing I've learned from watching these type of gaming events is: if you're gonna lose sleep over it, don't bother.
@fR_eeBritney like just for the effort I used to love the Oddworld games and free with PS PLUS is a nice bonus.
@nicc83 Not crap just nothing new.
Pretty lame state of play but FFVII announcement was really cool by itself! Hope I can get a ps5 in time for June.
Some of those textures on returnal where dreadful and I hate that 'the level changes after you die' *****,they should just say "hey our games 4hrs long but its like a different game everytime" 🙄
@Nepp67 Agree to disagree...that was my favorite announcement in the State of Play!
That Sifu game was the best thing shown imo
@JoeyTS I think FNAF is a joke when it comes to horror so when I saw that announcement I was immensely disappointed. I was hoping it would be an actual horror game, not whatever the hell that was.
This could have been a pretty dull email or blog post.
@Nepp67 FNAF has garnered a huge fan base for the reason that is was so unique and a really cool concept in the horror game genre! This is the first truly free roaming game in the series and for that I'm excited for it!
@frabbit You really want your weapons to break that much?
I had low expectations and it still somehow didn't meet those.
Like some others, for the most part it didn't show anything new and I'm wondering why they even put this on. How many times can you keep watching videos of the same games. Yeah Kena looks great, I'll get returnal and deathloop but I don't need to keep seeing them. To me they should just post the videos online in the months before release and leave the state of plays for big announcements.
Sony just need to stop to announce games so early. That God Of War reveal in 2020 was extremely unnecessary if they already knew that wouldn't show any more of the game in the next 6 to 8 months.
The Nintendo Direct was better in my opinion. Now its time for Xbox to blow both away at this point.
Kena is coming out later than I'd hoped but not unexpected.
Final Fantasy won't be charging me for a full game to play the new content, which is a nice surprise.
Sifu looked like it might be cool and maybe the follow-up to hyperlight drifter.
Other than Kena, everything else was meh at best.
Kena was def the best but Sifu looked very interesting. Unfortunately for me, that was really it.
At least it was still better than that Nintendo Direct!😂😂😂
@TrueAssassin86x 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was expecting to see Horizon Forbidden West (for some reason), so that was a bummer.. Returnal, Kena and FFVII made it 'Okay' to watch. I don't care about Oddworld. Nor about Death Loop, but I admit that trailer was something else.
@JoeyTS That's great to hear but I just couldn't care less for the franchise which made me disappointed it wasn't something like Silent Hill(I'm at least hopeful that's announced in the summer) or RE8. I don't think it's that good of a concept but it's good to see you enjoying it!
@Wormold Oh man, without a shadow of a doubt, yes. Kena looks like a absolute masterpiece.
@Ralizah I really don't think delays are a bad thing. I would much rather play a polished game that had more time in the oven than a broken game right away. Kena looks like it could be one of the best games to come out this year; I would hate if that wasn't the case just because they rushed it.
Happy to finally see some good Returnal gameplay and see Solar Ash in action. Kena also looked great. Ao there were a few games I enjoyed. I honestly wasn't expecting anything about late 2021 games or new announcements, so I had measured expectations.
Also, lol for Sloclap turning the Daredevil hallway fight scene into its own videogame, SIFU. I'm intrigued, although I didn't like Absolver as much as I thought I might.
You know what would make me truly excited? A surprise new Jak & Daxter, Spyro, Sly Cooper or Uncharted announcement.
I find it hard to get hyped up nowadays with all the leaks going around constantly and by these manufactured State of Plays or game showcases that usually just contain flashy trailers or “in-engine” gameplay reels
FFVIIR saved it for me. The Yuffie DLC was unexpected. Can't wait to play through the game again. I may even go for my first ever platinum.
It's just okay for me, ff7 remake ps5 port is my games of the show, then keena and solar ash.
Okay I guess.
Is Oddworld on PS+? Awesome if true
Edit
Yes I just found the article and realised it's in April ps+. Was following the stream on my phone on and off so it wasnt clear to me.
Good stuff
I don't get all the negativity. People are so hard to please these days. What did you all expect, really?
For what it was I really enjoyed it. Great to see ps plus continue its strong year with Oddworld in April.
Felt like half an hour of ads for games we already have a lot of info about
Only gets an okay rating from because Yuffie
2021 is looking to be a pretty slow year for games.
Does Deathloop look like a budget title only to me?
It looks OK
More Stray and Little Devil Inside, less Dodgeball game and weird walking animals.
It's funny though, people moan about all major Sony games being AAA third person 'cinematic' titles and demand different genres to be showcased. These are and same people moan that the showcase is boring and needs more AAA titles!
😉
I (probably foolishly) expected a bit more but it wasn't terrible.
Today is gonna be a slow year for gaming. How can game designers and programmers blame covid?!? Surely it’s one industry that should have found it easy to work from home.
This might be worst year in gaming for years. Which is ironic when it’s pretty much the year two consoles launched.
I honestly believe they shouldn’t havent bothered with last night.
I think they need to start doing deep dives for individual games rather than these State of Plays. People just expect too much, and while some of what was shown was great, it didn't amount to much more than some trailers. Didn't learn much else nor nothing in depth.
It feels like they are really holding back at the moment, they've clearly got some big things in development - but the console is selling out and there isn't much competition from X-Box at the moment. I suspect when Microsoft get going with their studios Sony will announce more.
Well I was happy with it, didn't expect much, but free oddworld on ps5 made it for me. Also returnal sold me and probably pick it up day one. Also nice to see kena again can't wait for that. Overall nothing major we didn't already know but what we did see made me happy.
after hearing that Kena is digital only i gave this a poor rating.
it was excellent until i heard that news.... bad idea Sony ... bad idea.
The gaming community is incredibly ungrateful, it's only February and you guys are expecting every first party studio to show up and say a new AAA game is coming out tomorrow. Do any of you realize how arduous game development already is? And top that with the fact that development teams are still adjusting to covid?
Your first expectation check should've come when we all learned the event was 30 min, then and there it should've been realized no major announcements were going to be made. All the announcements we all wanna hear about will come late spring/early summer.
Everyone needs to chill tf out, the event was fine.
Kena was the highlight for me. We got Sifu but I would have liked more new game reveals. Maybe because the PS5 is still so new?
Very dissatisfied, not even one AAA new title presented (cuz Deathloop is not and it looks exactly like Dishonored in terms of gameplay).
All I wanted from it was Kena info and whilst I'm sad it got pushed back and I am superstoked for the actual game, it looks fantastic!
I enjoyed the extra coverage we got on both Oddworld and Kena (Plus release dates), and the FF7 Remake Intergrade PS5 Upgrade with the new Yuffie DLC episode was a very happy surprise.
All in all I was very pleased with this State of Play, looking forward to the next one!
