Super Bomberman R Online was announced for Google's ill-fated Stadia streaming platform last year — and now it's heading to PlayStation 4. The free-to-play blow-'em-up will arrive on Sony's system "soon", according to the press release, with a confirmed release date promised for the near future.
Super Bomberman R Online plays just like a classic Bomberman game, but the twist is that you can battle with up to 64 players online. In other words, it's basically a Bomberman battle royale, and the console version will support cross-play.
The press release provides a quick breakdown on game modes: "While anyone in the world can jump into a 'Battle 64' room, the Premium Pack allows players to create their own private Room Match with rulesets that include 'Battle 64' mode, 'Standard' mode with up to 16 players or 'Grand Prix'. Grand Prix divides players into two teams of up to 3v3 to compete in earning points, with the highest total points after the two battle rounds wins."
Said 'Premium Pack' will be priced at €9.99 / £9.99 / $9.99, and it also nets you a bunch of character skins that pay homage to other Konami properties.

I'll have a crack at this!
Definitely interested in this...Bomberman used to be a permanent fixture in my PC Engine back in the day! Though not played any version newer than the 10 player Saturn game. But I doubt much has changed!
"Ill-fated Stadia streaming platform"
LOL
Love Bomberman and Hate Stadia, so great news!
What about 4 player off-line with 3 other real people? I find Bomberman really FUN like that I think the PS3 version had even more players than 4 off-line to if I remember it right. That would be cool to.
I'm more interested in that Gylt game that was supposed to be a Stadia Exclusive, I'm waiting to hear more about that one.
Great news, whenever I see Super Bomberman it brings back memories of the SNES and the multitap - great days indeed!
@Carl-G It really is the best way to play Bomberman, as my post above says the days of local multiplayer were good times!
Speaking of Konami, they recently put out a Frogger game made by the pixeljunk devs on Apple Arcade. Looks interesting, maybe they should port that too.
Sounds like a blast!
Actually pretty excited for this! Haven’t played bomberman since the ps3.
@JustPlainLoco Same here that one looked really nice.
Kinda forgot about Stadia.
@shonenjump86 I completely forgot the thing existed. Which is kind of scary given that it's from Google.
I never played any of the Bombermans before, but happy others will have a chance now!
@__jamiie yup, I just haven’t heard much talk about it.
@shonenjump86 It's pretty crazy though. If Google REALLY wanted Stadia to work I'm fairly sure they could. Look at how buying an Oculus headset is now completely tied to an 'active' FB profile. It really surprises me how little effort they've put into it.
For me, R just wasn't anywhere near as fun as BomberMan Ultra on the PS3.
