After something called PlayStation Plus Video Pass was leaked yesterday, Sony has confirmed to Polish website Spider's Web (as reported by VGC) that the service expansion is real. However, for the time being, it's only being tested in Poland.
So what's the deal? Well, starting today, PlayStation Plus Video Pass allows PS Plus subscribers to access "over 20" movies and TV shows from Sony Pictures (with new video content being added every three months). That's in addition to the usual PS Plus benefits of online play, "free" monthly games, and exclusive PlayStation Store discounts. In other words, Sony is looking into how it can improve its PS Plus offering.
Okay, but why is it being put to the test in Poland? According to Sony global services vice president Nick Maguire, it's because PlayStation's Polish audience fits the bill in terms of usage data. Maguire explains: "We know very well that we have a large base of players in Poland who stand out due to their commitment and activity in the network and social media. They also like to use VoD platforms. For us, this is the perfect combination, the perfect market, to introduce a test service as part of the PS Plus program and see what our key users think about it."
“Of course, I cannot share the exact data on the basis of which we chose Poland. However, I can emphasize that Poland meets all the criteria that are important to us, your country is a mixture of very important factors from this perspective,” Maguire continues.
It's an interesting approach from Sony, and the fact that it's being tested in just one region suggests that it's not quite so sure whether PlayStation Plus Video Pass is capable of success on a global scale.
In any case, this is a story that we'll be keeping a close eye on. Should Sony find the addition to be a hit in Poland, it'll likely start thinking about its distribution in other territories. But is this something that you'd like to see Sony add to PS Plus? Give us an honest opinion in the comments section below.

Sweet Jesus, Venom, Zombieland 2 and Bloodshot as the ‘main’ titles are a car crash! It’s a great idea but only if the movies are actually good 😂
I'll be honest personally I'd rather have gaming benefits over a handful of movies.
How about incorporating ps now with plus?
Not interested in another streaming service in the slightest. Would be more interested if they expanded Plus in a way that benefits gamers.
It'll be interesting to see how they develop this and what else it comes with.
Personally I want to cut back on my subs, so if they add movies and shows to my Plus sub that makes things a little easier for me. I'd stick with this and Netflix, and let Prime go.
Hopefully they put some anime in there.
I'm also in Poland and I checked out the "launch line-up" mentioned by Spider's Web and BIG MEH lol
@Shepherd_Tallon I’d love for them to include something like the Criterion Collection or BFI Player as the smaller sized library means they can curate a group of genuinely good movies instead of... well, Bloodshot.
🤦 omg stop just stop. improve your game subscription. dont be something your not. ive netflix , Disney+ , amazon and all my bluray/dvd boxsets . just the games please sony. i can get a lot of new games on gamepass. come on you need to do more Microsoft is beating you at your own game 😂
I don't need another optional streaming service. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and HBO Max (all great values) as well as Hulu (Which I may drop soon). What I want from them is access to more games, be it more back compat or indies or just an expansion to the PS Plus Collection. If this is only part of the revamp then its fine but if this is the full answer than it feels too weak.
"This is for the players" not this gen now its tv tv tv
Would much rather they do something comparable to game pass if they wish to improve the value. A games console should be primarily for playing games on not streaming movies
I personally don't find PSPVP appealing - 20 movies isn't going to tip the scales. That said, I don't find GamePass appealing either.
No thank youuuu.
I hope the great people of Poland help make this fail somehow, Sony will just add a bunch of crappy movies to PS Plus and then say "see we improved Plus massively, mission complete let's go home guys"
@Juanalf If we're good at something, it's making things fail No worries
I get the name Game Pass is taken, but really there is no need for a Video Pass. This is not the answer to Xbox right now. There are already too many VoD streaming services available. Netflix & Disney + just signed deals with Sony for streaming rights to their films and shows. Are there really that many people not subscribing to either service?
Answer Xbox by combining PS Now with PS+. If they need to offset the profits then make it a tier system. PS+ standard is normal price, PS+ Platinum is $10 extra.
Well of course I'll take it as it's no extra cost (I think?)....but I didn't ask for it. And therein is the problem. How many people who bought a PS5 will ask for it? I suppose it depends on content, but it is very wise for them to be testing it right now instead of fully implementing it.
This could be the start of something great/more if they keep adding things. I say keep the pressure on them, that means we get better toys!
I'm having flashbacks... something about "TV TV TV"...

Imagine using the Venom movie as a selling point for anything
Underwhelmed.......
Just don't hike ps+ price too much that's all I ask. Its already good as it is, better than gamepass, so no need to get crazy with changing stuff just to ask more £
Other than that I don't mind. I don't know why it would be a controversy if there's additional stuff for the same price.
@BoldAndBrash It's fun but also the character deserved A LOT better
The banter between Brock and the symbiote was cute but the rest of the film played out like one of those pre-MCU Marvel movies from like 2003/2004
I'm Polish and I already pay for Netflix, HBO and I occassionally rent/buy movies on Rakuten. I have zero need for another movie streaming service. Sony needs to reexamine their priorities with Playstation.
Also, PS Now is still unavailable in Poland...
PS+ doesnt need improving Its PSNOW that needs improving
Odd, given the recent withdrawal of video services and the recent Netflix deal ఠ_ఠ
It's a good job they aren't charging any extra for those 20 movies/TV shows. For no extra cost they can add whatever they like. Maybe they should copy Nintendo and add a few old PS1 games to the mix with new ones every month or two.
@Voltan @gollumb82 Hey guys, do you still have only one man voice over in movies, or proper dabing? ☺️
Are those ps plus movies in POL (VO or dab) or ENG+subtitles or just ENG without any support?
Trying this out in a country that doesn't have PS Now is just
It just doesn’t appeal to me, those movies are readily available on Netflix/Nowtv don’t need another service like that. PlayStation should stick to gaming, that’s why Microsoft got criticism last gen.
@TheFrenchiestFry Just imagine a ps5 branding with the venom font, sheesh. Didn't like the spidey look on the ps3 phat.
@djlard
Lol, good shout 😁 Nah, it was like that in the 90s. Crazy times. Now we've got two! Seriously, though, Poles have switched to subtitles I think. At least I have. I hate seeing Al Pacino speak fluent Polish 🤣
No thanks, I don't want a video game service to add movie stuff to it. I want more videos game stuff.
Wow, so many Oscar winning movies!
This doesn't interest me, I'd much rather this be something games related and not movies or videos.
@nessisonett While I would love something like the criterion collection, I really doubt it would allign with the taste of most gamers. But these three movies seem to miss everybodies taste.
@BoldAndBrash I think you are over reacting a bit and blowing my comment totally out of proportion for bait.
I'm not asking for more games I'm personally already a Plus and Now subscriber. Just merge them and be done with it.
PlayStation is the eco system here. I don't want a movie streaming service and I doubt I'm in the minority saying so, there's already more than enough services for that before adding yet more fragmentation to the movie streaming market.
If you aren't going to add anything constructive you might want to get your shine box back out and be useful.
Do you genuinely think it's gonna add much value for gamers as a counter to game pass?
@tameshiyaku I dunno, I’d like to think that plenty gamers have taste. I feel like it’s the respective industries just assuming that gamers are into Skrillex and the Transformers movies.
Sony: "We're thinking of giving you some free movies with your PS Plus subscription!"
Gamers: Trigger me timbers! FiLMs aRe rUBbish. We want better films more games free games all games should be free. Xbox rahhhhh.
@djlard I don’t really watch TV (and streaming I do with English subs) but yeah, I believe we do and at this point most people wouldn’t have it any other way
Its good they are looking to expand it but im pretty sure ive seen this whole 'tv on console' idea somewhere before and that went really well...
Oh no, they best not put adverts for this on my ps4
@solocapers Because that would mean getting PS Now in every country which is easier said then done.
@AdamNovice once PS Now moves to Azure I think that barrier will be largely knocked down barring a few special cases.
This is a waste of everybody time, most people already have netflix or disney+ subs, why sony giving this kind of movie, just focus on games man!
Not something I would ever use.
I feel like there's one person out there who looks at these titles and is like "hell yeah!". Unfortunately that person works in Marketing for Sony and chose which films to feature...
@TheFrenchiestFry You mean the Sony Marvel films?
@theheadofabroom Not just those. I also think of stuff like Daredevil with Ben Affleck, or The Punisher with Thomas Jane when watching Venom
It reeks of early 2000's comic book movie
@nessisonett The strange thing is this service actually includes Blade Runner 2049, Arrival and Baby Driver. Actual good movies.
@TheFrenchiestFry Ah, to be fair I missed those
Just include PS Now in with PS+ and it will be so much more worth it than a video service
@gollumb82 @Voltan Huge part of my DVD collection have Polish VO audio track, so one could easily think times didn't change. ☺️ (even movies from '00 further)
@elvisfan1
You do realise this is about guys being concerned about a price hike? To me it seems imminent once they add the extra content.
@djlard
Well, we used to have two voice over guys who did all movies, but they're both dead now. I wonder who they passed the torch to. Anyway, I hate the Polish voice overs and I always choose subtitles + original audio. Same with games. I even switched the language of my console to English as some games (Cyberpunk for example) will download the Polish voice overs by default. Mind you I'm talking about my XSX. My PS5 arrives tomorrow so I don't know if it's the same 🙂
This is literally something Xbox with Matt would've done.
I actually wouldn't mind getting this because I feel like the monthly games are enough for me. There's not enough time to play them all as it is, getting 80 movies/shows a year sounds pretty good. BUT getting more games instead is never a negative.
It's easy to enter a testing phase in select countries. The real challenge is to exit it... if PS Now is any indication.😅
Isn't Venom already on Netflix? I haven't bothered to watch it yet... I mean, I mostly watch animè on there. Carole & Tuesday and The Great Pretender are my recent watches as I got a little tired of seeing blood every 5 minutes in most of the shows. Are they at least getting the Super Mario Bros. movie????
@nessisonett Don’t play with my feelings ness. I’d be on that so fast if I could get Criterion Collection or BFI
Seriously just add playstation now to playstation plus
Hard pass, just make a PlayStation Game Pass already.
