It’s been a much busier week here at Push Square Towers, with the new PS5 firmware update dropping and the Resident Evil Showcase. To be honest, it’s a refreshing change for Sony to be keeping us on our toes. Unsurprisingly, then, we’re looking forward to the weekend. Here’s what we’re playing
Sammy Barker, Editor
I’ll be spending my entire weekend in the bullpen, as I stretch out MLB The Show 21. I may even dig out my Mets jersey to mark the occasion – especially seeing as they’re currently top of the NL East!
Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor
I'm slowly but surely making my way through Yakuza: Like a Dragon, but I've just secured review code for, wait for it, Buildings Have Feelings Too. So, Kasuga and the crew will have to wait while I put the city management game through its paces. I'm very curious to see how this one fares.
Jamie O’Neill, Reviewer
It's PS2 Classic Konami time with 11 weekends left to buy retro games on the PS3's PS Store. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the meticulously designed Contra: Shattered Soldier on the UK's store, so I've settled for the top-down, run-and-gun option of Neo Contra instead. For my horizontal shmup fix, I've chosen Treasure and G.rev's gloriously gorgeous Gradius V, plus both picks run at NTSC 60Hz, too.
So those are the games that are keeping us busy this weekend, but what are you planning to play over the next couple of days? As always, let us know in the comments section below.
Comments 102
Ratchet and Clank at 60 fps in preparation for the new one.
And RE8 demo...but not until Capcom say so.
Switch - Mario 3D All-Stars! The nostalgia.
PS4 - Weekly GTA Online session with friends! And perhaps Borderlands 3.
PC - Garry's Mod!
Have a good weekend, everyone.
My plan was yakuza 0 and ratchet and clank but I beat yakuza 0 two days ago and I beat ratchet and clank while writing this.
Thinking about infamous 1, judgment or borderlands 3. Also the deponia collection was free on the epic game store so maybe that.
And like always more shiny breeding/hunting in pokemon shield.
EDIT: I decided on a replay of octodad: dadliest catch and infamous 1.
Almost finished with my second playthrough of Horizon Zero Dawn, aiming for some of the few remaining trophies and then sadly be putting this game back on the shelf. Roll on Forbidden West!
Getting towards the end of Uncharted The Lost Legacy as well. Really fun game.
May start Abzu this weekend, probably once I'm done with at least one of the aforementioned titles.
Enjoy your weekend, folks!
More AC Valhalla, just Sussex and Hampshire to clear now
Well, still working on Yakuza 5 (“just” the coliseum and Legend difficulty left for the plat) but also just got Judgment, it takes two, Titan quest and Shenmue 3. Will likely start playing it takes two with the wife, assuming she likes it.
Edit: 4 hours of it takes two attests to it being a fantastic game. Already far more fun that Sackboy was co-op.
I am playing multiple games on multiple systems this weekend.
Switch - Monster Hunter Rise
PS5 - Disco Elysium, Destiny 2
PS Vita - Killzone: Mercenary
Mac/PC - Civ VI multiplayer
Finishing cyberpunk plat up. Planning on jumping into dragon age inquisition afterwards. I've started that game at least a half dozen times but never made it too far. Always enjoyed what I played, but would get distracted and i just can't jump back into western rpgs like that month later. Would like to finish in preparation for mass effect legendary edition.
Darkest dungeons.best indie game ever.dragon age inquisition goty.one of the best games ever.and resident evil village demo.word up son
@Col_McCafferty Wait 2nd playthrough? You finished Frozen Wilds?
@TrueAssassin86x Sounds like a bomb weekend man, have fun
Taking a break from asscreed Valhalla and playing some short games, so socom 4 trophy round up and Sayonara wild hearts.
Started playing socom after reading about it’s patch’s disappearing. It’s wonky, short and fun, probably helps that they don’t make recruitment shooters anymore, but yeah good times had.
RIP zipper interactive.
Feel like I'm jumping between lots of different titles right now. At the moment Yakuza Like a Dragon and Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater are my focus. Both absolutely amazing!
This weekend I have to complete Metal Gear Solid 3 and Persona 5 Royal so I can free up the schedule. Gonna make some time to prepare for my hard playthrough on FF7R when Intergrade drops in June, and also being immersed in Eorzea in FF14.
Happy gaming fam!
@TraCuz- Yes and yes!
Just some hunting challenges left and I'll be done with TFW.
@playthedangame Yo man I'm playing through Snake Eater right now! It blows me away how this PS2 game still manages to immerse me in 2021. Loving the camouflage, food, and cure gameplay mechanics.
On PS4 I'll be playing some AC Revelations with old man Ezio and some Disco Elysium with a hobocop.
On Xbox I'll be playing some Fallout New Vegas, Forza Horizon 4 and whatever else takes my fancy on Game Pass.
@Col_McCafferty Nice! So how did you take the reveal of Hephaestus also working independently in addition to Hades? Sylens capturing Hades? Very interesting stuff, can't wait to see what they do with Aloy in Forbidden West.
@Xenomorph_79 Hey do you find Haven worth the time?
@lolwhatno You need new parents.
I hear Madonna and Elton John are always on the look out to adopt.
The Last of Us: Part 2 & waiting for Final Fantasy 14 to download. Figured I’d give it a shot as the full game as well as the first expansion are free.
@lolwhatno What were you playing?
Nioh PS5 edition, Overcooked and Minecraft and the Resi 8 demo on Sunday night
Diabo 3 Seasons
Cutting the grass and waiting for Terminator Resistance to be PS5 enhanced 😎 and a little It takes two 🙂
AC Valhalla today and I snagged a copy of Resi 3 for £8 a few days ago so I'll be starting that tomorrow. Happy gaming all!
@Crowley22g I'm waiting for The Terminator upgrade too.
Any idea when ?
@TraCuz- Yeah it's all rather intriguing and sets up the sequel. I'm of course looking forward to the new machines and combat options in HFW but I'm as equally excited about where they take the story.
Probably play some Street Fighter V and Tekken 7.
The tagline made be think of Red Dwarf: Androids have feelings too
@Fight_Teza_Fight I just got into the free trial about 2 weeks ago and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm down to join up if you want a friend, same username on PSN just say you're from pushsquare
Grinding level's in Marvel Avengers, maybe another playthough of I saw black clouds.
A bit of cod multiplayer, well into immortals:fenyx rising and blown the cobwebs of the outer worlds to do the dlc ,very enjoyable 😁
Working most of it, joy but will be on Outriders on XBone. Its all very average tbh and makes me think I should just keep playing Destiny 2
Also more gigs to complete on Cyberpunk on PS4 and gonna watch Zack Snyders JLA cut again
Have a great weekend guys ❤❤
@Col_McCafferty Same! I'm really hoping they improve traversal. I played for the first time after I finished Ghost of Tsushima and it made me appreciate Ghost's game design. When on high ground all you gotta do is look left or right and you'll find place to climb. It was sometimes frustrating to have to Skyrim jump up and down mountains in HZD. Two things I wanna see are the ability to mount flying machines and set ziplines with the ropecaster.
Playing lots more Monster Hunter Rise. Should also be able to finish off the last few achievements in Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls, and I'll also resume playing Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Finished a 2nd play through of Resident Evil 3 remake, which I think is great.
Getting the few trophies I have left for Call of Cthulhu. Not gonna lie, its super boring; much preferred the Sinking City. Apart from that might play some night in the woods for a nice change of pace.
After beating the outstanding Metro Exodus I was already starting to miss the crew, Col. Miller especially. The story almost plays out like Dutch and his plans. Lovely game! Now I'm back to my on-again off-again game MHWorld. Just upgraded some weapons and they look fantastic. It's a hard game which requires time and patience to farm, craft and upgrade your character. I mean it's an RPG and it sometimes feels harder than Bloodborne you know.
@Xenomorph_79 Yeah that's 100% the awesome value of gamepass
Will be watching the snooker for the next few weeks, but in-between will be playing a bit of Yakuza like a dragon and try and finish oddworld too.
@JapaneseSonic who do you fancy for the snooker this year? I have put my money on Robertson as my main guy to win, put 5 on O'Sullivan as it was 4-1 odds and a cheeky 5 on Steven Maguire as I feel he is getting to the standard of winning one of the big 3. Past 4 years I have called the winner so hopefully get 4th lol.
@TraCuz- Sounds good. I haven’t played an MMO in like 15 years, but I like final fantasy & it’s free, so I’ll try it.
I'm almost finished with Persona 5 Strikers. Probably would've had the game done already if I didn't grind all of the character's Master Arts.
Oddworld Soulstorm Ratchet and Clank and Bravely Default 2 which admittedly isn't as good to what I thought it would be. I find the game overly difficult to what it needs to be and dear God talk about grindy. Every boss fight to me is a puzzle where if you use a particular strategy you get punished for it and it's not much fun having to keep trying, I never had this much trouble with the first game on 3DS or Bravely Second. Still though once I start something I like to finish it.
Continuing with Outriders (until Nier Replicant drops). I also started up Little Nightmares yesterday, it’s such a gorgeous game.
Monster Hunter Rise.
Time for a week off from PlayStation.
Ori and the blind forest on x1
Final Fantasy V on GBA
Chrono Trigger on Wii
@Fight_Teza_Fight Yeah this is basically my first MMO and it does a really good job of easing you into the gameplay loop. Just hmu man, I've been looking for other new players to experience the game with.
I’ve not been playing anything this week. 3/4 of the way through Nioh so might hop back on that
Once again I'm struggling to find something to play. The lack of new releases is a pain! Cant wait for BioMutant and Returnal to give me something to play again.
@lolwhatno that’s not good man. I’m writing to you because I want you to show this to your parents in an attempt to help you get your PlayStation back. ‘Video games don’t cause violence. I’m 35 and started gaming in the late 80’s and they never caused me to be violent. I will tell you that they helped me a ton in problem solving, troubleshooting and applying logic. See back when I grew up there were no players guides or internet to help you so you had to figure it out for yourself. If you were stuck in a game, you’d just have to keep trying until you tried everything. That teaches you persistence and determination because you have to have that to beat some of the games from the 80’s and 90’s (still games like that today. Take Demon’s Souls for instance). Long story short, I wouldn’t be as high up in my company if it weren’t for everything I’ve learned from video games. I never went to college and believed I never needed to because I was fully equipped for life. Of course it wasn’t just from video games but I kid you not I’ve thought about adding video games to my resume. You’d be surprised how many people out there in the workforce are quick to give up and show no level of resourcefulness on how to troubleshoot any sort of problem that crosses their path. People at work ask me all the time how I fix stuff within our system/software etc and I always tell them it’s from video games. Some smile and ask me if I’m serious and I tell them I am dead serious and explain why. I couldn’t have asked for a better hobby to aid me throughout life. I’m a Director for the 2nd largest private lender in the U.S and making a healthy 6 figure income for the last 6+ years. I’ve never asked anyone to borrow money, I pay my bills on time, I donate money, I keep cash on me for one reason and that’s so I can give to the homeless whenever I see them and I have no debt, not even my house. And I’m not trying to toot my own horn to anyone who reads this, I’m just trying to help a Brother out. I can guarantee I wouldn’t be where I am today if my Parents took away my video game system when I was growing up.’
Good luck. -Steve Z
I’m with you Sammy go Mets!
I'm not actually playing anything this weekend seeing as i had the astrazeneca jab and its knocked me off my feet...feel as if i have the flu and my head hurts looking at the tv..
@get2sammyb is it just me or is there no such thing as a physical copy of MLB 21 in the UK?
@lolwhatno hang in there son..be strong..
Although on PS4 I’m continuing my Hitman and Persona 5 playthroughs, I’m torn what to play on PS5 while I wait for Returnal. I tried Maneater and Destruction All Stars and those were underwhelming after the excellence of Astrobot, so I figure I might move on to Control.
@JapaneseSonic yea I have been backing Robertson for past few years but he always starts decent but runs out of steam by the end, but got a good feeling this year about him he's been on fire lately. Yea Ronnie wasn't playing well this morning but with him he just flips a switch and 4 frames gone lol. Oh I will defo @ you when Maguire wins haha, nah feel like he has been getting better last 2 seasons think he has been training with Higgins which has helped him but I think it's his temperament that lets him down most of the time, he is my outside bet at 50/1 so not really expecting much, but I said the same when I put 10 on mark Williams when he won few years back at 20/1 was a nice 200 quid and I had put Higgins as each way so actually called the final that year lol, so ended up with 280 quid that year lol.
On the snooker, big Ronnie fan and would love to see him tie Hendry's record. If I had to bet though I'd put a sneaky tenner on Trump.
PS5 - Assasins Creed Valhalla and trying to finish Astro
Series X - more FH4 and Yakuza 7
Switch - Mario 3D world
I haven’t played any Kombat League this week yet (new season started on Tuesday) so I’ll definitely want to jump back in tonight and score some points. A bit more of that tomorrow too, for sure. Other than that, I’ll probably continue with Soulstorm.
Pokémon Blue Version (Game Boy) - I finally made it to Victory Road, hoping to catch Moltres before facing the Elite Four.
Angry Birds Stella (Windows Phone) - Stuck on the last level.
Gerbil Physics (Windows Phone) - Plodding along with this as well.
@JapaneseSonic haha yea I was same with ding, but I think he's had enough chances and should have done it by now, I actually met him few years ago when he was playing in Llandudno north Wales which is close to where I live he is bloody tiny lol. Think Yan bingtao iwill probably win it before he is 25, so think I will put some money on him from next year onwards. Enjoy the snooker mate and hopefully Maguire wins haha
@b1ackjack I'm really enjoying the game mate, clearing out infestation zones is extremely satisfying. I know the game has its problems and stuff, but it's so fun! Hope you get the plat fam.
@Col_McCafferty Yea Ronnie is probably the best, he has everything to be fair, would like to see him win to equal hendry's record too. Trump not been as good this season but he is the bookies favourite, again wouldn't write him off when he is on his game he's brilliant. But for me my favourite has always been Robertson think he is a class player and have a strong feeling he will be picking the trophy this year and have 10 on him on odds of 6/1 so pretty decent.
@hypnotoad I did see end of April, but I believe it's been pushed back due to Sony needing to do some work on the back end. I will play it again even if my save can't be used 😎
@Northern_munkey I had my first one a month ago mate, it knocked me for a few days with flu symptoms was off work for 4 days, went back for a few days but felt really down and couldn't concentrate on anything in work went back to doctor and have literally been off work for 3 weeks so far. It's weird though few others I know had it and were Ill for a day and fine afterwards and some completely fine. I am still off work for another 3 weeks because it's knocked me, Just feel really low, not sleeping, haven't really been playing as much for past few weeks, but just been trying to do some exercise and stuff to knacker myself out. But been playing a bit more over this week, and got the snooker for the next two weeks. Hopefully you feel better soon m8 and don't get it as bad as I did.
Resident evil 8 7 hours demo is the dumbest stunt capcom has done, I wasted my time downloading the demo, I can’t play it when the demo only live at morning in my country ☹️
Oh well, at least I can play maiden demo anytime I want, just tried the maiden demo this day, it’s a good, scary fun 😃
Finishing Final Fantasy 7 Remake, starting Days Gone and playing sometimes GT Sport and Battlefront 2
@Daleaf i had mine a little over 3 weeks ago and i felt fine all of saturday evening..sunday and monday i felt really bad with flu like symptons..been fine for 3 weeks and then on my way home from work on thursday blamo...straight out of the blue the same symptons...apparantly its perfectly normal and nothing to be worried about..
@Northern_munkey wow that's crazy that it's kind of kicked in weeks later, hopefully you feel better soon. Mine just kind of knocked my mood and sleep after the flu symptoms, hopefully 2nd jab won't be as bad.
@Daleaf 😉
I've just started the PsNow trial and I have to say I'm mighty Impressed. I'd take native installs but I'm surprised how good streaming a game could be.
@Daleaf Yeah a lot of hype about Robertson this year. He's made a good start anyway.
I had my first jab a few weeks back and suffered no side effects whatsoever apart from a slightly sore arm. Others haven't been so lucky. Really weird.
@Col_McCafferty Yea Robertson was brilliant this afternoon, just hope he keeps the momentum going.
Both my parents had the jab around the same time as me and like you no side effects whatsoever, I'm just glad I didn't actually get covid think i would have had it bad.
Still playing AC Valhalla. Now played for 454hrs.
@lolwhatno Totally agree with you mate. Games are great & can showcase a range of emotions- playing the last of us 2, which is just that. I was just wondering if it was a certain game that made them take it away.
Have a great weekend😁.
@deathaxe cheers bud..stay safe..
Started Trails of Cold Steel which I think I'm really going to love.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Currently giving Horrific Zero Dawn a rest for the weekend, having finished the main story and all the main game side content.
Played the first two levels of Hitman 3 and unlocked the tranq gun, currently finding the guts to take on the Elusive Target before it disappears, so I'm learning the Dartmoor map as best I can.
After that I'll return to Aloy for the Frozen Wilds
Finishing up dark souls 2. And some mlb 21 the show
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt [GOTY Edition]
It's one of the greatest games of all time, even in light of CDPR pooping all over their good guy reputation. And I don't even really care for medieval might and magic type RPGs at all. Spent some time finding Witcher armour and having it crafted (Cat and Griffin sets, Cat being the favourite for my play style), plus finding all the ? points of interest in Valen.
Call of Duty: Black Ops [Zombie Co-Op Mode Only]
Not a big fan of regular CoD by any means, however Zombie mode really shows off just how right the controls on this 10 year old shooter really were. Mostly a steady 60FPS too, apart from when there's too many hoards of the SS Waffen Zombie Nazis on screen. They must be stopped, at all costs, and 2P Local Co-Op is a real h00t.
Forza Horizon 4
Sometimes, nothing beats tooling around a great digital facsimile of Scotland, launching sports cars off of huge ramps to get ⭐️⭐️⭐️ or drifting a 240SX around a snow-covered dirt track to see how good your control of the car is.
Hi there fellow gamers.
This weeken will be a little different.
Since I was able to finish and Platinum Outriders, Trickster Class on PS5, I´ll probably create a new character and go for the Pyromancer Class and mess around the End Game Expeditions with some friends.
Also I´m playing two fighting games on PC:
And last, but not least, more Bravely Default 2 on Switch.
Chapter 4 now. Like I said before, slowly but steady.
PS: I´m also going back to Sackboy a Big Adventure on PS5. Love how much joy I get from that game.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming to us all
Destruction allstars for me... I've gotten into carnado big time!
@lolwhatno In my opinion, video games can help prevent violence. I lose count of the amount of times I haven't turned around and hit someone, but have used video game violence as a more healthy outlet when I've had a bad day or something. I'm sure your parents mean well, but that blanket statement they made isn't true of everyone. Not everyone who plays an FPS will one day pick up a gun and go shoot up their school.
@playthedangame So true. Despite some weird gameplay/story choices (acapella theme tune while Snake climbs a ladder for 3 minutes, anyone?) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a brilliant, memorable game. I've replayed it a fair few times over the years including on the PS Vita. The Subsistence versions with the camera control rather than forced perspectives are my favourite.
Playing through the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto V with a bit of Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- on the side.
i might just bite the bullet and renew my switch online subscription to play smash bros . been bored of ps4 .
I’m deep down the rabbit hole of Disco Elysium. Played it for 12 hours straight. I wasn’t blown away by it in the first few hours, but the side cases really started to pull me into the world. The characters are interesting and the voice acting is almost universally great. The skills are useful and the level increases make visible changes to gameplay dialogue options. It’s not an upbeat game, but it’s a fascinating journey.
Ratchet and Clank, new to PS and have Rift Apart on pre-order.
Plus some Horizon Zero Dawn.
Valhalla on PS5 for me!
Another weekend of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Monster Hunter: Rise.
Ratchet & Clank on PS5 with the 60fps update.
I think I’m close to the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and also Control.
I played the RE Village demo for 30 mins last night. Such a tease!
I’ve also just begun Witcher 3 and will start Nier Automata once I finish FF7 Remake.
I’m drowning in amazing first playthroughs over here 👍
@Bluetrain7 This is an intriguingly interesting thing in gaming - main story take or leave, side quests are the draw. I have a feeling it ties into not being obligated to do them, and that possibility of stumbling upon them organically leading to a more unique feeling player experience. There are so many games where this is the case, and I seem to remember it's been more and more of a thing since 2015 and The Witcher 3.
@djdizzy You've just started The Witcher 3 as a first play through? Wow, lucky devil if so. I'd like to go back and start it again for the first time, it's such a deep and engaging world.
My personal tip is it's well worth going on fetch quests for the Witcher armour sets initially rather than hodge-podging your own together out of loot drops - they tend to be stronger, more durable, and come in light/medium/heavy type variations. Cat (light) and Griffin (medium) school types are personal favourites, but you can also get Wolf (medium-heavy) when Kaer Morhen opens back up and Bear (heavy) too. That's definitely a "fact I wish I'd known when playing The Witcher 3 for the first time" type of a thing, as is using red mutagens to increase your attack stats and buying the Gourmet upgrade first to unlock regenerating health - you'll see the You Are Dead screen a lot less this way.
I'm playing divinity 2 definitive edition with a friend. Great game but the story is so so and it have a few bugs. Hoping for miles morales or tsushima get on sale next mouth
Finished off Ratchet and Clank and unlocked Challenge Mode. Strangely I was having trouble with Dr Nefarious, gained an upgrade to the Peacemaker and somehow one shot killed him with 63% health left. For sure it was a glitch but I had to take it lol
@zekepliskin Yeah this is my first playthrough. Thanks for the tips! I’m still at the beginning, the Griffin’s killed me a couple times but I didn’t do any side quests. So I just have the beginning equipment. I’ll do some side quests first and keep an eye out for equipment upgrades before I give the Griffon another shot.
@djdizzy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeOrzZSXojY
There's always an easier way to do these things - a lot of people struggle with the initial Griffin fight, including a close friend of mine, but when you learn the trick(s) to it it's really easy.
@zekepliskin Excellent video, thanks
Man, just when I was starting to really like Sammy B....he had to go do something like being a Mets fan
My super slim PS3 gets all the love this week.
Tears to tiara II (SRPG), Dengeki Bunko (2d fighting), Hatsune Miku: project diva F (rythm).
@hypnotoad Terminator Resistance PS5 free upgrade available now 😎 use PS App to find it then pick platform 🙂🥳
