South Park certainly has a distinct visual style, and it's one that's not translated well into the realm of video games in the past. In early attempts to turn the purposely low-tech world into something interactive, the universe's felt figures have been replaced with 3D models, and it hasn't really worked. It's partly why the duo of RPGs from Obsidian Entertainment — South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole — were so well received; their commitment to the show's DNA shines through.
There's been a bit of a break since the latter title, but another game is most definitely in the works, as reported by Bloomberg. The publication states South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are working on a "3D video game", in addition to numerous other creative projects. Unlike the previous two titles, which were a collaboration between Obsidian and South Park Digital Studios, development is underway exclusively at the latter, in-house team.
The term "3D" in the game's description is certainly interesting. Given how successfully the last couple of games have been in maintaining the look of the show, we're curious if this new game really will be fully 3D. We're sure that, with the studio being in-house and the creative pair at the helm, it should be good. It'll probably be a while before we see anything of it, but we're sure the game's in safe hands.

While I enjoy Fractured, it was nowhere near as good as Stick of Truth. However, if anyone can make 3D South Park work, its Matt and Trey
Howdy ho!
Pretty amazed Southpark is still a thing.
Timmy, Timmy, Timmy.
This news kicks *ss!
As someone who's been into this show, i'm looking forward to play this game, even though i haven't played The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole. I hope it's good.
I wonder what they are going to go for in terms gameplay. That FPS South Park game was a guilty pleasure to play back in the day on N64 but I doubt they would go in that direction again.
If they did want something action based I think a Ratchet & Clank inspired game could work with South Park well. Imagine South Park versions of the wacky weapons from Ratchet. Could be cool!
@Milt Oh mate you should definitely pick up the first two games they are brilliant it's basically a South park movie lol. I have played through them both twice and loved it.
Not sure about this 3d game though, think it's fine how it is, think it would take away the charm of South park but am open to it if it's done good.
The 3d ps1 games are fantastic games! I never managed to unlock every single character in South Park Rally (a couple were elusive) but I managed to get everyone in South Park. I actually never got far in Stick of Truth as it felt really slow and like a flash RPG tbh, so this is good news for me.
Fingers crossed for Superman 64: Al Gore Edition.
Excelsior!
@Icey664 I thought the second game had the better gameplay, but stick was a lot funnier.
I hope it's an rpg like the first two . I remember the first game has fatal bug on my ps3 though (hang on cut-scene), it prevent me from finishing the game.
I loved Stick of Truth, but Fractured But Whole felt like playing through a really mediocre season of the show. I'd love a Team America game if a different IP other than South Park could be part of the deal.
@RBMango 'F**k yeh'
I loved both games, especially, and apparently against popular opinion, The Fractured But Whole. I'll be curious to see what direction this takes. And I haven't watched the show in a decade.
Loved both games, but there was something special about the first one. I guess it was a bit funnier, as others have mentioned. Cautiously optimistic for the third one.
Guess I'll have to dust off my 3D glasses
With Parker and Stone helming the project, I'm staying positive.
Hopefully it's still an RPG.
@Deadhunter I liked Fractured but Whole a lot more as well I was surprised to see how many people weren't too high on it here
not sure going 3D is such a good idea as alot of the charm of stick of truth and fractured but whole was that they looked just like the show
stick and truth is great while not quite as good fractured but whole is a good game as well
3D? Meh. The RPGs replicated the look and feel of the TV show pretty much perfectly.
You're a towel!
I hope it turns out well, the Ubi Soft games are great.
My post was deleted for what reason? 😏😏
Flashbacks of the N64 game abound
@Deadhunter Edgy opinions, maybe. I thought they were both good, as well.
@huyi Sue from Community Standards.
ill pick it up most likely day 1!
@Milt
As a fan of the show, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't play Stick of Truth.
Wait... are you assuming it's a south park game or what? I'm not sure we can assume that. A 3D south park game doesn't sound right.
@Deadlyblack @Daleaf @Keith_Zissou @hi_drnick @themcnoisy @Icey664 Glad to see so many South Park fans here! I've seen all episodes, specials, and the movie.
Also did you guys hear about South Park being renewed for 6 more Seasons on Comedy Central, and also being ordered 14 Paramount+ original films? Two of which are slated to drop this year!
@Milt I highly recommend at least checking out South Park: The Stick of Truth (PS4), it's often on sale for $15-$20 USD or cheaper.
@Nem There's no assumptions, the source article states that a South Park 3D game is being worked on.
@KidBoruto oh I do love South park although the last few seasons have been good but not as great as they used to be but still pretty good. I heard about the news and am always happy for more south park, been watching them since day one, I recently watched them all again too some of them are absolutely brilliant, I love the episode where cartman freezes himself because he can't wait for the Wii to release 🤣🤣. Favourite character has to be randy though he is fantastic.
@Daleaf I didn't get into South Park until my High School years, but same love the franchise! I have seen all episodes/specials and the 1st movie.
Just need to replay Stick of Truth and then beat Fractured But Whole...really hoping the 3D game turns out great.
