Elden Ring has a dedicated jump button, an on-screen compass, and ambient music. That is pretty much all this leaked gameplay clip will tell you considering its short length of 27 seconds, but it's worth sharing all the same considering the current secrecy surrounding the title. This is supposed gameplay taken from an Xbox One build, which is most definitely worth taking into consideration when viewing.
According to members of the press who saw gameplay in person for a previous round of previews, this clip wasn't part of that media beat. If we were betting men, we'd put money on Elden Ring showing up at The Game Awards at the end of the year; it is still due out in January 2022, after all. Until then, we can dissect this somewhat poor quality capture of the game.

Well, based on that very nice looking footage I can’t wait to awkward jump animation into this game when it releases.
Jumping like me after 5 Jaëgerbombs.
DAMN! that is looking like early ps4 rough This is where Bluepoint's re-master ruined Fromsoft for me. Knowing that the game engine and mechanics CAN be upgraded to look as they should on current gen machines, its a bummer that this was developed for last Gen and essentially being ported upward.
After playing the Demon Soul's remake it was rough going back and playing Sekiro, and thats their best looking game to date and in looks to be the build of their engine they are using on Elden Ring. Looking forward to developers setting aside cashing in for genuine artistic and gameplay innovation. We have literally had 4 reskins of the same demon souls framework. Although Sekiro showed the most actual innovation, I due hope that they continue gameplay innovation especially considering they are absolutely sticking to dated visuals and reskins.
The hover jump is interesting though LMFAO
@KundaliniRising333 Yeah it's quite funny that Demons Souls out-shines everything, even From Software's latest. I know that's to be expected with this being a massive open world but even without considering that, I think it just shows how ahead of the curve Bluepoint are.
@velio84 We're getting a crazy Q1 with Elden Ring in January, Horizon in February and GT7 in March. Considering Forspoken is scheduled for Spring, I could imagine it coming right afterwards and God of War not long after that. We got it good!
Can’t wait!
Guess their art style and gameplay makes them get a pass with the same animations since forever. I think Sekiro is different though. Looking forward to this but HFW being so close to it is worrying.
Definitely not impressed with the goofy jump physics and the scabbard clipping through the cape. Just looks like more of the same old outdated FromSoft jank. Dark Souls 3 only open world isn’t really going to cut it.
I was going to tell people to lay off since it’s early in development but I forgot this launches in like 2 and a half months.
Ah, Jeff Grubb. The fabled "uncle who works at Nintendo".
This must be that "Knight in the Woods" game those hipsters were telling me about
@figboot Oh my god the sword is clipping through the cloak, MY IMMUrsion is RuIneD. Please, find something that's an actual issue to complain about.
Ah shįt, souls vibes no way am I paying top dollar for that. I’ll see it in two years when it finally gets 25% off! And I won’t buy it then either
I hope the rumors are true that bluepoint is making bloodborne 2 instead of from software because this game look bad graphically compared to demon souls remake.
I saw some people say it looked awful like a PS3 game lol people are crazy, this looks about what I would expect from a FromSoftware game!
@AFCC I mean, I expect PS3 graphics from FromSoft 😂
My gosh, the people complaining about the graphics make me want to slam my head against the wall. Contrary to what you may think graphics are not everything and from soft has never really been known for their amazing graphics what they are known for is gameplay and their lore and I would take that over amazing graphics any day also remember this was made for last-gen so yeah it is not going to look as good as demon souls remake, although I think this does look better then Sekiro.
@AK4tywill It was only a graphical remake all the mechanics where made by Fromsoft so yeah blue point is better at making good graphics but Fromsoft is still great in making good gameplay which is more important.
@nessisonett definitely a true statement. From’s focus was never graphics.
I actually enjoy the grit. Don’t get me wrong, Bluepoint made the game look damn pretty, but I feel it was a bit too much in that direction.
Like how Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” trilogy had too much bloom.
Elden Ring of the Wild
Can't wait
@Itsacardgame Yes people don't get there are different types of art styles, everything doesn't always have to be sharp and crisp. A touch of blur, thick textures and nice lighting gives somewhat a painting look. I always liked Bloodborne's style, this Elden Ring looks just as good too.
It's not just that the graphics are terrible I get that you think that it's all about this get good mentality and it's all about the game. For the one that mentioned the amazing story and lore?! Are you kidding me? Story is what these games have the least of.
I've played every single soulsborne game there is and I'm telling you they're all reskins of the exact same game, so yah it's getting a little old. They either need to upgrade the engine and/or art style or at least innovate in with the game play don't just reskin the game IE: call The Little Spirit people that we summon, the items and equipment and the shrines and bonfires by a different names and call it good
Just because I like the genre doesn't mean I blindly love being sold the same game and engine with different labels and texture configurations. I didn't buy a PS5 to be resold dark souls 3 with a potentially better frame rate and resolution.
To demand more spurs innovation, to blindly partake in cash grabs results in the Activision's, rockstars, ea s, ubisoft sand now cdprs of the industry.
So please spare me your lack of being capable of objective examination. I've been playing From Soft games since Kings Field, Just want them to improve when the headroom is clearly there to do so.
@KundaliniRising333 which is why I think Bluepoint next project should be a western RPG for PS5. Can't think of anyone else better fit for the job.
@vict0RGM Heck yah
Well, this looks exactly how I would expect a 27 second pre-release clip of a From Software game to look…can’t wait to play it!
The game looks great, but my only complaint is that the animations of the character look too similar to dark souls 3 (almost a copy-paste).
Excited for Elden Ring, but really hoping we see Armored Core show up next. It’s been such a long time coming, and I’m curious to see how they might evolve the series after the success of the Souls games.
@brado33434 Completely agree, was only talking from a visual tech standpoint.
pre-ordered weeks ago...can't wait !
Awesome stuff. Seems gameplay maybe faster and more agile character than usual too. (Compared to DS3 of course bc that’s the expected style)
I dont get why people moan about the graphics though. Not only it’s not the selling point but the leak isn’t a good way to judge. Well actually I guess you have to be negative on the internet so that sounds cool these days.
Gameplay looks rough, but hopefully the final product is more polished...
So long as it plays fine..locked 60fps...4k...i dont care if it looks a bit dated..its all in the game play for me..
@KundaliniRising333 Preach. Graphics aren't everything and as an avid player of AA games, I think I'm qualified to say that.
However, after finally caving in, I got myself a copy of Bloodborne and I kinda regret it now.
It's NOT A BAD GAME but seeing the overwhelming praise just proves how the internet hivemind is biased.
Nobody and I mean NOBODY talks about that horrible FromSoft jankiness that shouldn't be present in a AAA game.
Don't forget the clunky combat and controls, LONG loading screens, non existent story, horrible character models, pretentious lore etc etc.
No matter how much I try, I can't fathom why the internet hivemind is so excited about a Dark Souls 3 reskin.
@figboot Glad more people finally realize that sometimes, more innovation is required.
Imagine a FromSoft game with Sekiro like combat BUT add in a strong narrative story with actual characters that speak and have a personality.
@KundaliniRising333 Let's take this clip with a grain of salt. We just have to wait and see what it looks like when we actually play it in January. I'm sure we'll see much more polished gameplay in the coming weeks.
@Divergent95 Do you understand how FromSoft lore works? It's not about narrative, but bits and pieces you have to put together. It's part of the experience. You'll either love it or hate it. Consider yourself in the latter category.
@KundaliniRising333 It'll be a contender for GOTY. Mark it.
@nessisonett PS4 early days at least
@Rambolike Hun, I get that some people like that type of "storytelling". But in a world where games are transcending movies, FromSoft needs a major overhaul asap.
Yeah, it was original for it's time (Demon Souls, Dark Souls etc.), but this is 2021.
And please, stop with the It'S HOw ThEy WoRk!1'1 cr*p. Why do you think people hate Ubisoft open world games? Or Call Of Duty?
When something gets stale, change the formula and innovate.
@AK4tywill Hyped for everything except Forspoken. It seems cringe af. Hopefully that will change before release.
@Nepp67 not an issue for me but they do need to update their engine. One more game on the same old engine and they'll be giving bethesda a run for their money.
@SystemAddict cool story.
@Divergent95 "Non existent story" "Pretentious lore"
Lmao. It is how they work and they DO work. The majority loves FS titles cause of how well the story and lore is implemented. From the visuals, cutscenes, to even the cut content. That's why soulsborne's worlds are so interesting, that's why it works and that's why people are so hyped for Elden Ring's release.
@Divergent95 Definitely disagree here. Experiencing a non linear story where you piece the narrative together can be just as engaging as a more traditional story being told to you. In no world is having "story-telling" how you'd like it, in a Fromsoft game, innovative. Despite it being 2021.
It just doesn't appeal to you, simple as that. That's perfectly fine.
@starbuck2212 I agree that they should update their engine but if they don't I wouldn't care cause their games come out good regardless of the jank it has.
@KundaliniRising333 I like a lot of what they did with Demon's Souls - but they messed up a good portion of the feel and the NPCs are all f-d up
"The scabbard clips through the cloak, OMG bad game".
Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing (SONY 1st party) game, but the animations can be janky too in some places.
I know this video looks bad, but it's not 100% certain at which state of the development it was made, and what it was made for. Maybe it was part of an internal testing of something, and it didn't need to have all of the graphical bells and whistles on it. Not taking any sides here, just saying there may be more than meets the eye, there's not much a few seconds video can tell...
Besides, if i were to bet, I'd bet that most of the nay sayers will still go buy and play the game when it releases.
One sure thing to take from it though: we'll be able to Jump (easier)!
@Nepp67 Yep. Unlike with Bethesda I'll continue to buy their games.
