A big bug-squashing update for GTA Trilogy is now live on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. It arrives following an apology from Rockstar, in which the company stated that it has "ongoing plans to address the technical issues and to improve each game going forward".
And boy does this remastered collection need it. The bugs and performance problems were a significant sticking point in our GTA Trilogy PS5 review, which ends with a 5/10 score. "Rockstar built its reputation on attention to detail, and while all three of these games still come highly recommended, this disappointing compilation will go down as a stain on the label’s record," we wrote. More updates can't come soon enough.
Anyway, patch 1.02 aims to fix a laundry list of bugs. General fixes include improvements to "incorrect or misplaced" textures, character models, and audio skipping. Of course, this update will have to be put to the test before jumping to any conclusions, but hopefully it makes a noticeable difference.

Ok, I might finally buy this game when I get my salary in December
Ive been playing vice city in fidelity mode on a 1080p screen (nearly finished it), so its running a lot better now ive changed it to performance... I havent had a mission become untrackable after a cutscene since, so thats an improvement so far.
@velio84 Ah yes, FromSoft games, those notoriously bug-free games that run perfectly 😛
@velio84 @nessisonett so your bar is, as long as the demo works.
Did you get Balan Wonderworld? 😉
Squashing bugs that didn't used to exist lol
Will grab a used copy of this in a year or 2 when it's cheap. This should have been an easy win for Rockstar. If it took like 2 weeks max to fix so many of these issues, why were they there at all? Why was it not delayed? Boggles the mind.
The old versions of the games should be put back on PSN, too. I don't like being cynical but this is an astonishingly poor effort, Rockstar. Congrats for doing the bare minimum and patching it, I guess.
Too late.
If you can't release a full price game bug-free then no sale !
Good, not buying this now but I'll buy it at the first psn discount.
@nessisonett Yes cause From games are just as bad compared to the GTA Definitive edition and Cyberpunk right? Lol
It blows my mind how something that's considered a 'stain' due to the bugs and clearly rushed out nature of it, can still be 'highly recommended'...
There's no way all these patches were done in the space of a week. What I don't get was the need to rush this title out...we only knew about it officially a couple of weeks before release didn't we? I don't think anyone would have minded waiting another month or so.
It all seems like a reaction to GTA5 rerelease not being ready in time for holiday sales. But how could rockstar not anticipate this reaction?... particularly after the backlash over cyberpunk still relatively recently. They probably figured gamers would buy it regardless of the state it comes out in...mind you, it still was 'highly recommended' in that state...so I guess they're right. Maybe it's more surprising they went to the effort of apologizing
From what I have seen, I would say they will need at least 5 more patches like this for bug fixing. While it's good to get a patch, I doubt they will ever fix the game.
Grove Street Games can't be accounted for fixing the game. The PS3 version GTA San Andreas had game breaking bugs left to this day and they never addressed visual disaster that it was.
It also only mentions rain fix for GTA San Andreas. Pretty sure it is not fixed 😜 meanwhile, GTA modders community not only fixed the rain but also fixed the fog. It looks amazing now with the fog detail being as good as it is on GTA V.
I have ongoing plans never to support cashgrabing rushed projects like this, no matter how many patches they throw at it. You simply don’t buy a new car and wait for the manufacturer to add all components necessary for it to work.
From the playbook for making money as a game studio in 2021: 1.) sell people on a nostalgic remake to distract from the fact you got nothing new to show, and likely won’t for years 2.) invest bare minimum, knowing nostalgia sells almost as good as sex 3.) counter outrage with heartfelt apologies and day one patches to let the people think you care 4.) praise the dark lord for your continued successes
70.00 to be a quality content tester. Bravo Rockstar Games.
The greatest trick the gaming industry ever pulled was tricking consumers into being paying beta testers.
In my industry, we pay our beta testers. Not the other way around.
@commentlife this is eerily spot on 😂
It's a start. Hopefully the patch doesn't cause any other issues.
Modern day gaming
Day 1 purchasers are the beta testers which the patient sales gamers use to check if a game is in a playable state down the line
Just wait for a massive sale. There will be a roadmap of patches over the next six months.
The only thing that has bothered me so far is the rain and looks like they haven’t fixed it yet.
From what I'd read on Rockstar's site,it mentioned XBSX in particular for some bug fixes rather than ps4/5,so I'm curious just how much of these have actually addressed. Wonder if Push Square or others will give us an update to how they run on ps4 & ps5 post updates.
Imagine having a list this long of fixes for a week old game, and it still doesn't fix all the issues!
@Bleachedsmiles
Rockstar released it digitally a month early to be able to get a higher cut of peak sales, especially on PC where the game is only on their launcher. Should they have waited until December and launch with a major day one patch? Absolutely but then they'd have less people buying directly from them. This game will be fine by it's physical release date and it was all planned, imo.
hopefully one of many updates / improvements.
@velio84 here we go! I found the fanboy
So the physical edition has the same value as a coaster so im better off buying a PS2 with the physical releases.
@Bleachedsmiles They know about the backlash but they dont care it sold anyway. Same with Cyberpunk that release was a crime and you ahouls see how many people will defend this disaster.
@eltomo I don't have to imagine just look around at battfield or cyberpunk. I could go on but what's the point this is standard industry practice these days.
@Netret0120
I learned my lesson from The Witcher
Good on R*!
It’ll never be good enough for the whiners who like to pile on, complain and review bomb. Literally every game is released unfinished now and needing a sizable patch update but they still act surprised.
Hopefully this collection will be mostly patched/fixed when the price finally dips below $40.
It's the new Cyberpunk! Not good....
Yeah, this game was ready to be released when it was...
@PushButtons partly agree with you, but there is a difference between bugs that need fixing later and an unfinished project. In general i would say that the game is ready for the market when it can be enjoyed without bugfixes. You can debate on where that line is drawn. Nintendo proves that an almost bugfree game from day one is still possible.
