Good news for those of you who make frequent use of Discord and a PlayStation console: the immensely popular communities / messaging service is now officially rolling out PlayStation functionality. This means that by connecting your PlayStation and Discord accounts, you can share your PS5 and PS4 gaming activity through Discord.
Discord's announcement reads: "Once your Discord account is linked, the game you’re currently playing on either PS4™ or PS5™ will be shown as your activity, just like that!"
It also clarifies that if you don't see the option to link your accounts just yet, it's because this is a gradual rollout, starting with the US and going live in other countries shortly.
Are you a big Discord user? Will you be showing all of your online friends the PlayStation games that you're playing? Start typing a new message in the comments section below.

That’s… not much but I guess it’s just the start?
I’m not being funny but rich presence is the most basic functionality possible. It’s been available in RetroArch for years. I can literally have it show that I’m playing a specific emulated Thomas the Tank Engine game right now. It’s also not any different from your PS friends seeing what you’re playing. If this is the ‘big announcement’ then it’s rather rubbish. I expected a complete merger of Discord to fulfil the PSN messaging on consoles.
Believe it or not. I, boomer, to this day, don't really know what Discord is.
Wait that's it? What?
Yeah like Voltan said, was expecting a bit more, are they just starting? Thought we were going to get a discord app/chat/communities on PS. Let people know what I'm doing is just....nothing really...I even have the option off because I don't want people to see what I'm playing.
Hmm okay. But I want to use the voice chat with it, only account linking is not whatnot was looking for. Hopefully more soon.
This is the initial support, it seems. On the Discord blog:
"We’re excited to continue our partnership with PlayStation and explore how we can collectively create great shared experiences for your friends and communities."
Im assuming like others this is just the start, and more features will be added later. Cool and all being able to see what others are playing, but would be nice to have a decent VOIP on the platform.
Jeez slow down Sony I:m knackered.
@Medic_Alert no different to me mate! I think it's more popular with the kids.
OK! Personally I use it as a forum app only since the voice chat is blocked where I live unless I use VPN that doesn't help most of the time!
Okay that's all well and good but where can I preorder t-shirt with Captain Astro's cute little mug plastered on it?
Neat. Now my Discord friends can judge what I'm playing on 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 device!
Holy ***** has PlayStation woken up tonight or what?
Isn't there something like this already, with the friends list, showing what people are playing, voice/party chat, etc?
@dschons it's basically the new AOL Instant Messenger.
Meh. I'm getting old for these "connectivity" updates.
I can Google but tbh I still don't know what Discord is.
I do hope they build on this a bit further and add text and voice support down the road. While nice, this is really the bare minimum of an integration.
Literally the most basic of basic support...
@dschons AOL chatrooms of the modern age. As a guy about to turn 40, I’ve never been able to get into it myself.
So not much of a Discord person and know it mainly from every single gaming Reddit forum having a pinned announcement to "LEAVE REDDIT AND GO OVER TO OUR DISCORD SERVER"
I've tried the app on a few platforms and find it a bit...odd. Hard to follow topics and it looks pretty bad. Need to spend more time with it.
So this thing...it's not a PS app? WHERE exactly are we "linking our Discord and PS accounts'?
I need to get up to speed with the times. Problem is I am currently focused on getting these kids off my lawn...
Not available in UK atm
Hopefully this is just the start really want full integration so I can just hop into discord call on my playstation.
I still don’t see an option to connect my Discord profile to PSN, and I live in the US. Maybe it’s only available in certain regions of the US right now? Hopefully the option will appear soon. I use Discord frequently with close friends.
I don’t really get discord. I’ve had an account for a few years but never really got into it. Perhaps if there is a push square one it might be good to play with some of the regular posters on here? Not even sure if that’s how it works
@dschons same
@dschons As a 80's guy i never used it to.
I will assume that is just Sony testing the waters with Discord. But here are two suggestions for the next steps:
1 - Create a official PlayStation server on Discord. The worst thing about discord is how messy a server can become, and with a official PlayStation server, Sony will set the bar on the quality level that is expected to any server that is any how related to the PlayStation/Sony Interactive Entertainment brands.
2 - Work with Discord to release its application for PlayStation and let it be a entry point to the integrations of the functionalities from Discord PlayStation users expect to use.
At least linking the accounts was a smooth transition.
Still think it was the bare minimum.
@vict0RGM yh like twirch and others ( not all available in UK)
@Kingdom_Hearts95 I'm also not seeing an option to connect my PSN account to Discord...maybe they're only letting certain time zones have access to the feature?
I'm in California (PST) for reference.
Yeah, wake me up when the voice chat integration is here. I get it, they might as well put stuff out early, but it does feel disappointing.
I know they basically said that this is just the start but I hope we see something else relatively soon, too. Like many of you, I can only dream of having some kind of built-in Discord for Xbox and PlayStation, finally bridging that annoying cross-platform gap between the different consoles and PC.
I was going to add Switch in there as well but decided I should keep it at least within the realms of slight possibility.
I've used Discord from time to time, but I dont see how linking the two serves a purpose.
Is it through the web browser or the ps store?
To all UK people which I imagine is a good portion of people here, you can now connect your Discord and PSN together, it's available as of this morning I've connected mine.
I don't know what any of this means but sure okay
They wouldn't push this as its not big news until there's more functionality, but its at least a start...
I can now confirm this works for me in Poland - you need to set the visibility of your activity to “anyone” in privacy settings if you want your activity to be visible in Discord.
It's not showing my PSN activity on my account after linking, even after I set privacy settings to anyone. Weird.
The only thing I want from Discord is to be able to chat to my friends on Switch and Xbox directly on my PlayStation. Wake me up when that happens!
oh ***** how’d i miss this
Refuse to touch Discord, it's nothing more than an unnecessary 3rd party chat service, developers have generally gotten lazier with hardly any announcements within their games about new content an expect everyone to jump on their official discords
