We don’t think this trailer would exist without Cyberpunk 2077, which is quite amusing really. But much like Sony earlier in the week with Horizon Forbidden West, Techland has released a five minute video clip proving that Dying Light 2: Staying Alive [Heh – Ed] will run on your crusty old PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro.
At first we thought the Polish developer was perhaps covering up for any potential shortcomings by showing such small segments of edited gameplay, but it rounds out the video with a full parkour platforming sequence, with no cuts or transitions. Clearly it’s running at a much lower resolution than the PS5 release and at just 30 frames-per-second, but at least it actually appears to work.

It's like the Xbox One has been airbrushed from history. I want to see that video nasty, I bet it's horrific.
I think getting the original to run on switch was alot more impressive
Sweet, looking like I’ll buy this then. Ill buy it for PS5, but if it runs well on old tech it should on the new tech.
Hey Sammy, this is totally unrelated to the article and completely random, but I’m just curious to ask if you play on any other console other than PlayStation ? I’ve always played on PlayStation but recently I got a Switch and I’m having a lot of fun with it. Having a PS5 and a Switch is honestly a really neat combo.
@riceNpea
They showed xbox one footage in this video so I'm confused by what you mean
@PegasusActual93 is it? Didn't watch the vid. I was just going by what PS said 😊
I take it Cyberpunk 2077's performance on last-gen consoles has everyone (even developers) scared. And rightfully so, as someone who still plays on a base PS4, it is a little concerning that cross-gen games might forget about us so soon. (especially with how hard getting new consoles is -and it's doubly harder on my side of the world because of inflation)
Edit: the game also looks pretty good on PS4, can't say I'm too excited about it right now. Way too many great games coming out in such a short time!
Seems to run OK indeed. Must be a nightmare for devs releasing on so many different platforms on day one.
This game is looking better then I thought it would.
Wtf like ps4 pro is old.god of war 2018 still looks amazing on my ps4 pro.dying light the followinging looks really good.and so is dying light 2 stay human.word up son
It doesn’t really cross my mind when buying the PS4 version of a cross gen game if it will play well or not. I just buy it and assume it’s going to play fine. I think most developers so far have done a great job at making the last gen versions of games play well. I’ve played games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Call of Duty Vanguard, Guardians of the Galaxy and Tales of Arise on my PS4 Pro and have enjoyed each of them.
Really impressive showing for the base Xbox One.
Unsurprising, though, considering they somehow managed to port a shockingly good version of the first Dying Light onto the much weaker Nintendo Switch.
I wonder if this was the reason they delayed it? I'm happy last gen versions are looking great as last i heard they weren't good. I myself pre-ordered the PS5 version today, loved the first game so i'm very excited for this one.
@Bentleyma Cyberpunk has scared people plus you have the PS3/360 versions of Shadow of Mordor what was dire and lacked the nemesis system you know the thing the game was designed around. Its uncommon but now and then cross gen games can be a miss.
@Ralizah The Switch port wasn't too much of a shocker. Dying Light was originally supposed to release for PS3 and Xbox 360, so they had already a version designed for those systems power levels. The Switch just gave them extra juice of power they need.
Reviews coming on Feb 2. Ready to purchase if it turns out to be good.
Always weirds me out a bit in first person games when I see the arms flapping about when running
Sammy do you guys have a review copy?
@Bentleyma well , that’s because they’re essentially last gen games to begin with . i really doubt a true next gen game would be able to run on last gen . ratchet ps5 for example would probably fry a ps4(pro) 😂
Cyberpunk was the exception rather than the rule. Every other cross gen release thus far has done fine and i am never worried about the results. Though I have a 5 now so not my problem anymore
I am so excited for this game the night scenes and night volatiles look scary. I already bought the Ultimate edition, and honestly I do not plan on reading any reviews as I plan on just playing/enjoying the game for myself. I would rather just form my own opinion on it.
@WallyWest What were the differences between the two versions of Shadow of Mordor exactly? Regarding the Nemesis System. I know about the sh*tty performance and stuff but not really sure about the other.
@PegasusActual93 Exactly, Cyberpunk is the exception not the rule. It could've run flawlessly on base PS4 if it wasn't filled with so many unnecessary assets. You'll find about 10 interactive vending machines, 10 TVs on, 20 scrolling Ad screens plastered all over the place in a SINGLE building or all over streets. They just went overboard. It runs fine in its current state though there are still some remaining bugs.
Exited for the game, but it's not like it's that impressive looking... Of course it could run on PS4. Our Cyberpunks should be the exception, but here we are, being impressed by games running on hardware they should run on
@Lup Well performance as you say was bad as was the visuals however the main issue was the Nemesis system was completely stripped back to the point of not really being there, i don't know how bad exactly it was in that regard as i refused to play those versions but Digitally Foundry slated it and a friend of mine who played the PS3 version thought it was awful, he later played the PS4 version and found it to be a whole new game and loved it. From my understanding while Orcs would still hunt you and you can recruit them it was very very toned down and more basic so combined with the awful performance and visuals it never should have been put on those consoles.
Still looks great. From last gen on the only reason to complain about graphics is if you are a PC elitist or the dev genuinely crapped the bed. We are entirely too entitled as gamers. Looks like a blast on last gen consoles
It's kind of funny how they are just flat out calling last gen "old-gen" in the video.😄
Anyway though nice to see it working well on last gen.
i like my crusty ps4, thank you very much.
Remember to break the crust on your dry old disc slot before you slip it in
Thats why i hate it when people keep defending Cyberpunk. Im certain it wont look as good as current gen but you could atleast try.
@Flaming_Kaiser
I agree. It’s inexcusable how that game was released on PS4 and Xbox One.
It’s a game they designed for PC with high end hardware and then suddenly realized they promised a console version. It felt like they literally pieced it together and threw it out without doing the due diligence to optimize it for the weaker hardware.
The PC version suffers as well. The game doesn’t run good on what are otherwise excellent mid range graphics cards.
And considering how similar the PS4 and Xbone are to the PS5 and Series from an architectural standpoint, I’m not surprised that most cross Gen games are running so well. As long as the developer does their due diligence in optimizing for the weaker hardware, the game should perform admirably.
I mean look at Horizon Forbidden West. I’m blown away by how good the base PS4 version looks in their screenshots.
@WallyWest
Shadow of Mordor is like a different game on PS3. Visually speaking, there is so much lacking. I definitely agree that it should never have been released on older platforms.
@TheRedComet I dont mind if a game looks less less then the PC version its normal but for me the dodgy way of how they acted on it thats my issue.
They should have made a choice cancel the game or downgrade it. I rather have a stable game, acceptable AI a little with less NPC's. Drop the resolution, give it less detail nothing wrong with that its not their fault the hardware is old.
But trying to push back reviews, release fake info, bury the bad press thats all really bad thats the reason i have a massive issue with the game.
I laugh my ass off when people defend this and we have few fanboy drones around. Even going as far as blaming people for buying the game on a older generation.
My PS4 isn't crusty!!
