Regular readers will know that we're not huge fans of CG trailers, but we'll make an exception for Hell is Us. This newly announced action title goes for an intriguingly weird tone in its debut teaser, which features strange hollowed-out human bodies and a cloaked figure with a big glowing sword.
Going by the press release, it sounds like Hell is Us has a strong focus on exploration. Creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête explains: "There's no need for a detailed quest log or precise waypoint on the map: we want players to feel the thrill of adventure, guided by their feelings and instincts."
Of course, we don't know what the actual gameplay looks like yet, but this trailer's caught our attention. A quick overview reads: "Hell is Us is a third-person action-adventure game set in a semi-open world where the main character sets out to learn more about his past in a country ravaged by civil war. The almost total self-sufficiency of the country hides a dark secret: the recent appearance of supernatural creatures resembling ancient headstones and monuments in the region. The citizens call this phenomenon "the Calamity". Armed with weapons specially forged to fight these monsters, the protagonist must learn how to defeat them and use his equipment wisely."
Hell is Us is aiming for a 2023 release on PlayStation 5, but are you interested? Try to avoid stepping on all of the bodies in the comments section below.

I saw the trailer earlier today, looks pretty cool
It sounds interesting for sure. My personal preference for games like this is a fantasy setting, but I like the sound of this.
Reserving judgement for gameplay though.
A Hostile World – As well as the civil war dividing the country, the region is suffering from a mysterious calamity, which has given rise to supernatural creatures that no modern weapon can defeat. Your drone and sword from a different age are your faithful allies as you cut a path through lands infested with terrifying chimeras and try to unravel the mystery of their appearance.
A Unique Exploration System – No map, no compass, no quest markers: following your instincts is part of the adventure. Enjoy a unique experience that uses innovative writing and level design to let you make your own decisions and follow your instincts as you explore. Your discoveries are yours alone.
Combat Against Origianl Creatures
Swords, spears and axes: a wide range of weapons forged specially for fighting these supernatural creatures is available. You will need to learn how to fight these monsters and use your drone wisely to stay alive.
I love when stories need to name their enemies something unique to the IP, like "the calamity," so as not to infringe on other IP's rights. No one would call that ***** the calamity. No one. They'd call that ***** monsters or ghosts or demons or something. No catchy unique name would ever be used. We live in a world that names ***** Boaty McBoatface. No way something like the calamity would ever catch on.
On topic: looks alright, but I need gameplay. Giving me some... I dunno... Control meets ARPG vibes? Hopefully??
no idea whats going on there cool looking drone though, il keep an eye on this
I have a severe case of open-world fatigue.
It’s always funny reading articles about multi platform games and how different sites address them. Take this news article for example, Purexbox thinks nothing of mentioning it’s coming to PS5. Very rarely do I see PlayStation focused ones dare mention a games also coming to Xbox. This probably says a lot about either the writers or their views on the readers…
Idk how to feel about nacon
Gets Weird seems to complete the title
I get a 'control' mixed with 'death stranding' vibe from this. Hopefully it's exactly that
@MFTWrecks You said that, but we also in a world where stuff was name "The Black Death", "The Great War"... Etc. So to say that someone wouldn't name something "The Calamity" is far from the truth.
@Floki very well said.
@jFug omg same here, i haven't opened AC Valhalla or Rdr2 in months.
