It’s been eons since we last heard word about Resident Evil Re:Verse, the celebratory multiplayer spin-off that was intended to be a part of the overall Resident Evil Village package. A sequence of poorly received private beta tests saw Capcom put the project back in the oven, and we’ve barely got an update since.
Originally intended to launch alongside Ethan Winters’ Romanian escapade, the title was pushed back to July, before being delayed into 2022. Now, the release has been surprisingly rated for streaming platform Google Stadia, as spotted by Gematsu. It’s the first update attributed to the title in almost a year.
With Resident Evil Village celebrating its anniversary this weekend, some believe Resident Evil Re:Verse may finally be ready to drop. Of course, we can’t help but wonder whether the ship has sailed on this spin-off: are you still interested in trying it and, if so, why? Stock up on green herbs in the comments section below.

Still highly doubt its gonna be any better then the beta was a year ago so my interest is still not there.
But hey, at least they didn't cancel it without saying anything (and screwing Village owners out of a free bonus game). So that's something I suppose?
Absolutely detest multiplayer personally. Zero or irrelevant slapped together story and it’s just skinned characters running around shooting each other over and over again. Boring
Sorry but Resident Evil and online Mutiplayer dont mix. Just stick to making single player dlc for RE8 or the native upgrades for 2, 3 and 7
RE used to be a favorite series of mine. RE5 was the last great one. RE6 was ok. Sad that the series died for me. I won't be bothering with a half-assed multiplayer game for the series. Mercenaries was fun with co-op but I'm over it.
@Uncharted2007 resident evil 7 and 8 went back to the proper horror survival style and are two of the best in the series, for me 5 and 6 were just go in gun blazing games that didn't do the series justice.
@UltimateOtaku91 I'm not into FPS games and never thought it was a good fit for the series. Not with Survivor (PS1) and not with Dead Aim (PS2). Then the series decided to go full horror when I simply wasn't into horror anymore. On top of that they ditched all the main characters until the last 5 min of 7.
I played RE7 in VR for a few hours and it simply didn't feel like Resident Evil. That was confirmation to me that the series wasn't going to be enjoyable anymore. I'll stick with RE0-6 and their potential remakes if I ever decide to jump back into the series.
I'll also add that RE5 probably should have been the end of the series as it closed the Chris vs Wesker arc that had been going with the series since the first. RE6 added little value having so many characters to play as and completely forgetting Jill and making Chris a drunk. Leon and Ada were probably the best parts. Sherry was a nice addition getting to tie up her story. Then Piers, Jake and Helena were useless additions.
I don't really care about this MP game, but I was hoping for at least an update on Village's DLC for its anniversary. Sounds like we're getting nothing on that front however, unless they didn't announce anything on the 7th because it landed on the weekend.
@Uncharted2007 I personally had a blast with RE7 and Village when I first played them. The first person perspective didn't really bother me that much. Despite the lack of enemy variety in 7, I overall enjoyed the setting and the horror that it brought. While Village is not as scary as VII, it was still a great game and possibly one of the best games in the series imo. Plus, Capcom did really well with the different enemies in it.
The hell's a stadia?
The lack of DLC news by now is a shocker quite frankly.
This or operation raccoon city?😬
@Danloaded Just remake Outbreak with optional online it will be awsome. The keyword make the multiplayer optional and no always online if you play solo.
I don't get why they don't just remake Outbreak with updated graphics and follow the same game structure. That way they don't have to take forever to come up with new scenarios and can see if the game has a potential major fanbase. Could even monetize the hell out of it with weapon skins and outfits.
You'll probably need PS Plus to play it anyway, like that "free" game that came with 3 remake.
@Uncharted2007
7 and 8 are actually quite good and were actually breaths of fresh air for me if you haven't given them a chance. Dont let the crap that was 6 ruin those for you.
I stick with single player resident evil.thanks.word up son
@Uncharted2007 You need to understand that with RE7 when bringing back horror they can't just simply bring characters like Leon, Chris, or Ada back. They've been through this scenario multiple times and this shows with RE6 and it would ruin the horror aspect if they were there as a playable character or a character helping out a new one. Ethan being a random civilian was a perfect idea for that and was executed perfectly. Honestly it will never make any sense to me when people say RE7 doesn't feel like Resident Evil cause it basically has practically everything from the very first game itself from setting in an old and abandoned house, the Baker family having slightly cheesy lines, people turning into grotesque monsters, and an underground lab.
@Uncharted2007 eh? RE 7 is the most RE feeling game since the early trilogy! That compact claustrophobic location with the grim Hills Have Eyes family and its traps were just * chefs kiss * 8 on the otherhand is just a big glossy but very well done supernatural romp, not particularily scary but quite intense at some points, creeping through the castle while being hunted down, felt very Alien Isolationy at times.
hope they go back to third person in their later games again . too many outlast clones out here , not saying re7 and 8 are , but just the general abundance of first person wanna-be scary games nowadays
I don't want it I'd much rather them replace it with the dlc for free but if they don't deliver this game after already advertising it as being bundled with village I guess they open themselves up to a lawsuit about false advertising 🤷♂️
@Uncharted2007 alot of people would say resident evil 5 was rubbish because it focused more on action than survival horror , I personally have enjoyed all the resident evil games except the ones with no campaign
I didn't care about this at launch so definitely don't now. I'd rather have some single player dlc
7 in VR was too much for me, so was Here They Lie in VR. I could only handle Dead Space is about hour long runs before my anxiety took over. Lol. I'm ok with a MP Resi game. But not blasting hoards...outsmarting a few terrifyingly hard and scary enemies with a few others sounds legit though
This is still a thing?
Up until 7, I liked all of them (maybe except 5). But the first person view is not for me. I never liked first person games with very few exceptions. Hoping we get the so-called Revelations 3 after all.
This online one... I dunno. Have to see it first.
The game actually loads and you can play it on my ps5 as a single player game
@UltimateOtaku91
Gun blazing started with RE4 and this is Capcom, they felt that the fans wanted a more action game and this is the results.
RE7 was fun and more atmospheric though I hate this first person shooter thing and Ethan is one of the worst protagonists in gaming history.
8 was leaning on action and the game was a mix between survive and action with that stupid final Boss.
Nothing can beat the first trilogy, the remake of the first game.
RE remake is great yet RE3 remake is pretty bad.
@Danloaded re outbreak games were good multiplayer
The game didn't need this additional MP at all, we already had the mercenaries mode. That would have been fine by iteself
@Enuo
The fruiture of gaming 🤓
I will give this a go since I already have the code thru my copy of Village, and I will take any opportunity to play as Ada.
@Crabbitsteve never got to play them
I honestly think a multiplayer version of RE could work of they focused more on puzzle and horror aspects of the franchise and not on action and killing.
Would be great to have to solve puzzles in different mansions, labs, with players doing different things.
This feels to me like a better spin-off than making characters battle.
lol you cant just make a fortnight style multiplayer and put resident evil skin on it meh.
could of saved your money and made days gone 2 , itll be made sony will change their mind 😂
I have played and beaten every single Resident Evil game ever released. It's one of my favorite series' of all time. I even have a soft spot for the oft-cited "worst" game in the series like Survivor and Gaiden.
I played the RE:Verse beta last year and it is, easily, one of the worst multiplayer experiences I've ever had and the second worst game in the series (after the literally unplayable Umbrella Corps). I didn't care much for Resistance because I don't come to Resident Evil for multiplayer, but it did exactly what it set out to do and did it all well enough. RE:Verse is visually ugly AND plays terribly. Nothing about it is fun and I was genuinely hoping they had just cancelled it outright.
@Phelaidar They've done that, a few times, actually. Outbreak, Outbreak File #2, and Resistance (to a lesser degree) are that.
@mucc A new Outbreak, if done properly, would absolutely kill.
With stuff like Umbrella Corps, Resistance, and RE:Verse, it's obvious Capcom desperately want a live-service, online multiplayer Resident Evil that can just consistently make them money...unfortunately, they have zero understanding of that market or how to capitalize on it AND they clearly don't want to spend anything on the idea. So, they farm out bad ideas to smaller studios and give them no time or a proper budget (Umbrella Corps). Or, they develop them internally reusing assets from the bigger mainline games they're working on that are actually going to sell (Resistance/RE:Verse).
An Outbreak remake in the RE Engine, with all the characters/maps from both games, would be a huge hit. Add new characters and maps every few months with tonnes of optional weapon/character skins rotating in and out of a shop and watch the money roll in. It's like the easiest sell in the world, and for some reason they're avoiding it like the plague.
@GeneJacket Yes, I know. But these are old games.
I can only imagine what they can achieve with better online and hardware capabilities.
Instead, Capcom seems to focus on the shooter type of crowd...
@BReal why are you on this post?
@Danloaded hush plus you wasn't complaining the multiplayer in re5 which everyone still playing
@Zombiechris because I choose to be
@BReal choose to be a stripper?
