Update: Developer The Game Bakers has also confirmed that Furi is getting a native PS5 version, which will be a free upgrade if you already own the game on PS4. Like the DLC and update, the PS5 edition will release on the 17th May.
PS4 players will also be able to transfer their save data to PS5.
Original Story: File this one under "news we never saw coming": Furi, the neon-soaked action game that released for PS4 all the way back in 2016, will soon be getting a DLC pack alongside a free update. The often brutal bullet hell-slasher was well received when it first appeared on the scene, and it went on to become something of a cult hit among action aficionados.
The DLC is titled Onnamusha (not to be confused with Onimusha, the Capcom property), and it launches on the 17th May, priced at $6.99. The pack lets you play as a new character, the Onnamusha Rider. Here's a quick summary from the press release: "Onnamusha Rider is a powerful fighter that alternates between two stances: fast and agile or slower but lethal until she's able to unleash the devastating power of the Star. The new gameplay mechanics bring new challenges, for a complete rediscovery of the game."
Also hitting on the 17th May is the aforementioned free update. Here's the lowdown on that: "The studio will also publish a free update to the base game on all platforms, that includes all paid and free content available for Furi: One More Fight DLC and all the improvements made since the release (Invincible Mode, Furier Speedrun, Alternate controls...)." Not bad for a game that's almost six years old!

Great news. A tough but fun little action game which contains one of the very best game soundtracks of all time!
Out of nowhere! Very cool.
@pip_muzz I still listen to the soundtrack sometimes, it's phenomenal.
Honestly this was one game that defeated me, the closest I came to throwing my PS4 controller at the TV. Bullet HELL
Perhaps I'll give it another go
My heart was pounding reading the title. Was expecting a sequel announcement...
Still, more content so I'm siked! This game really deserves a sequel though!
@themightyant
Lol same for me at around the 3rd or 4th boss. Restarted it after year or two and it's now one of my PS4 favourites. There really is nothing that fast-paced like the DBZ teleportation battles. This game is epic
Loved this game, so these are some awesome news.
I love seeing random updates like this. Really dug this game. A PS+ launch title that fell under the radar.
Class little game ... I got as far as almost beating The Song, and yes the soundtrack and overall style of it is good stuff.
There's no other game like Furi. A true hidden gem (or Star).
One of my favourite psplus games, back when they added new hot Indies.
A great excuse to revisit it! I still semi-reguarly spin the soundtrack on vinyl, completely underrated!
I got Furi off of PlayStation plus, so does anyone know if you'll be entitled to the PS5 version? As we know from Sony/Devs, it's not always a given!
The game never grabbed me when I first played it (darn hard is mostly what I remembered!), but reading some of the comments - especially about the epic music - has made me want to try it again.
Love this game, I was considering playing again, now I really must. What a brilliant soundtrack.
@BigBirdy Good question, we probably won't know until it launches. Like you say, though, I wouldn't bet on it given how other Plus game upgrades have turned out.
Hell yeah! Super excited to replay this game!
Awesome! I've been listening to the soundtrack lately but never played it; think it might be time!
No idea what the PS5 upgrade has? Would love to see it be 120hz for extra smooth and response time
@TechaNinja Honestly now that there's vrr support, as long as they keep the frame rate uncapped and the game is optimized properly I think there's a good chance for 120hz.
The PS5 version is out now and it's not a free upgrade.
Update: it's free now. Guess they were just trying to scam a few bucks out of impatient people.
