God of War Ragnarok will release in November, according to a Bloomberg report. The game – which was tipped for a 2023 delay earlier this week, before being debunked – is seemingly still on track for its 2022 launch, albeit a little later than originally internally planned. According to sources “familiar” with the game’s development, creator Sony Santa Monica was looking at September, but will instead launch a couple of months later, in November. The Last of Us: Part I, announced overnight, will now fill that slot.
Excitingly, a release date announcement is expected later this month – potentially as part of some kind of State of Play livestream. It’s worth remembering that, while it very much seems like God of War Ragnarok is on track as of today, release dates can change due to unexpected circumstances. This is not a confirmation that the title will 100 per cent release in November, although it sounds like that’s very much the plan.
Sony, unsurprisingly, has yet to comment – but it seems like Ragnarok is hopefully near, readers! Who’s hyped?

Interesting. If they were originally targeting September, I wonder what the original release date planned for The Last of Us Part I was.
With everything Sony 1st party being announced for PC nowadays, I wonder if the 2023 rumours got mixed up with when a PC version will release.
@jcordeiro Maybe November so they switched places
Hmm, GoW and Pokemon in the same month.
Guess GoW has to wait then since it's way harder to avoid spoilers for Pokemon (new Pokemon, forms etc) than spoilers for GoW
@IonMagi Possible! There was a lot of chatter about The Last of Us Remake being Christmas, but if it's nearly finished might have been fairly easy to swap them.
That article uses a lot of language to make it sounds like it still could slip to 2023. So I still am not ruling out a delay.
“ No dates are certain in the turbulent world of game development and it may still be delayed again. But as of this week it’s still on track for November”
@Grumblevolcano it was probably just never true
Don't get my hopes up! Though would be fabulous if so, almost everything else has been pushed to 2023.
But much like Schrier's Resetera post said about a delay: Just because it is aiming for 2022 and isn't currently delayed doesn't mean it will make it.
My gut says they are cutting it tight and are waiting to see if it is feasible before confirming. What that also tells me is that we'd probably be better off waiting till 2023 to play it regardless... once a few patches are in
@awp69 Well, yes, nothing is ever set in stone with games. Even if Sony comes out and officially dates it, it could still get delayed.
The most important thing is that, as of today, they're aiming for November. Previous reports suggested it was 2023.
Id like to see some more of this before I get too hyped. I liked the original but it wasn’t a 10/10 for me. If they can show me something that makes this look like something other than just more of the same then I’ll be on board. I mean, I’m buying it regardless because… what else is there really? But I’d like to see some evolution. Unrelated but it’s the exact same concern I have about BotW2.
This is exactly when I figured it would release. The whole Fimbulwinter thing plays brilliantly into marketing’s hands. Can not wait!
Targeting.. gets to a few weeks before & delayed until 2023 not being funny but they would know for sure if it was coming this year. Not targeting
If it was "Bloomberg" It's probably releasing in November on the Switch Pro.😝
Will be very interesting to see even if ready to release this November 2022 if Sony hold it off to say March 2023. It may make good business sense and start 2023 with a massive AAA game to propel PS5 even more early next year.
The competition main games are now 2023 at some point. BOTW2 and Starfield.
PS5 sells very easy if there is stock, so GOW2 won’t help sell PS5, as Demand will still out strip supply this Christmas regardless if GOW2 releases or not.
Delaying will also mean more PS5 consoles sold so a higher attachment software rate.
That my business sense idea anyway.
I'm looking forward to it but not holding my breath over rumors. If it makes it, great, if it doesn't, still got plenty on my backlog.
@Dezzy70 All true. I imagine they'll release it if it's ready, though. Obviously they have room to breathe if they're not 100% confident in it, which is a good situation to be in.
@Tharsman To be fair, while best wait until you have it in your hands, this isn't really a rumour. This is people who are intimately familiar with the project telling Bloomberg that, as of today, it's scheduled to release in November.
@Dezzy70 not to sound like a hater, but I feel like Sony has enough AAA exclusives that they all don't have to be aimed at perfect strategical window. That only applies when you make 2 games a year..
November, you say? 🤔
I'm now more confident than ever that we ain't seeing this until March/April, as per every previous God of War release.
I'm not sure I'm going to have time to play it this winter. 🤔
@rjejr unless it's a Schreier article, then it's 100% accurate
@Cikajovazmaj
If you have a had PS5 and every Playstation console since day one like myself. Then they have not released that many big AAA games this year, so you have a point they may want to release this year.
I don’t need the uncharted collection, I don’t need last of us 1 remakes etc. I played and loved them first time round.
@get2sammyb
I would probably not release it unless I needed the cash injection from the game.
I’m selling every PS5 I can make, though it has slowed a little in the UK, those nasty big bundles the shops sell to make extra money sell a lot slower now than they used.
Probably because the weather is getting better and the cost of living is going through the roof.
Will be interesting to see what they do.
So basically we have one rumor that says delayed to 2023, and one rumor that says delayed to November 22, but it can't be guaranteed.
So ultimately it was delayed either way, and we're still not sure if it's releasing in 2022. It sounds like it will, but it's not a lock. It does remind me of HFW when they said in September or so they may make 2021, or might delay and went with the delay. But I suspect they're going to try to push it just to have a big holiday game.
@get2sammyb People intimately familiar told Bloomberg Switch Pro was definitely happening in 2021, too. I really wouldn't put much more stock into Bloomberg than 4Chan at this point.
@get2sammyb
Isn't that how most "credible" rumors start? Someone in the know told us?
The fact that the game keeps getting these "recently delayed by a few months internally" situations make me treat any news with a grain of salt until I see the thing actually hit the shelves.
Edit: Hell, as willing as I would be to pay full price for this one at launch, after how many patches Horizon Forbidden West has needed, I might still stay off this one until after quite a few patches. I know it's a different studio but still.
I can see this happening. Last year they had 2 State of Play showings one month apart (April 29th and May 27th), which seemed to work out pretty well. The first was more general games shown and the second was the Horizon blowout with the release date, so they might just do the same thing again with God Of War.
Oh, brother. Why do I feel like playing off Freya - The Sword song outta the CDs?
@jcordeiro Oct/Nov for the Last of us remake.
Sony will definitely try to avoid a delay of Ragnarok into 2023. It would be the second year without a huge exclusive for Christmas after suxh a delay happened with Horizon 2 end of 2021.
it'll leak along with some media (clip or trailer) like LoU Part 1 if they keep waiting. get ahead of it and just announce it, Sony.
Ok cool.we will see. Another masterpiece coming. 🐐 👑.word up son
Sony having a crazy year releasing gt7 horizon forbidden west last of us remake and god of war Ragnarok in one year plus having third party exclusives like Forspoken.
Fantastic news. I’m currently playing through God of War (2018) for the very first time. I’m probably about 18 hours in and absolutely loving it, so I can’t wait for Ragnarok. If it does happen to launch in November, Sony will have had a very strong year in my opinion.
January:
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
February:
Horizon Forbidden West
March:
Gran Turismo 7
September:
The Last of Us Part I
November:
God of War Ragnarok
If Ragnarok makes 2022 it will have been a phenomenal year for Sony with Horizon II, GT7, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection, TLoU remake, and Ragnarok all in the same year.
Not to mention other console exclusives like Sifu, Stray, and Forspoken.
@Milktastrophe Only way I'm believing a release date is 100% accurate is the day AFTER it releases. 😂
@NEStalgia I think they have a clever strategy planned. GoW Ragnarok originally planned for September but lots of holiday season games have been delayed (it's really empty now, Pokemon's the only big thing left) so have TLoU Part 1 take September instead and then announce GoW Ragnarok plans after everyone has had their events to position it as the big non-Nintendo holiday release.
Microsoft will announce some stuff on Sunday but I expect the biggest thing for the holiday season will be Halo Battle Royale.
@NEStalgia "Bloomberg Switch Pro was definitely happening in 2021"
Do you even read the comments before you post? 😉 (Hint #13)
@mariomaster96
I check those forms and new mons even before a pokemon game releases.
@RevGaming I did too with Gen 6 but then I realized that it's much more fun if you play the game without knowing the new Pokemon. (at least for me)
It's just really cool when you explore a new region and encounter a new pokemon you don't know
@rjejr you need a whole day to realise ur holding the game in ur hands? Dang...
Makes sense, November is wide open at this point.
@WizzNL No, but I need a day to put the game down, Google the release date announcement to see what it was, and then check the calendar to see what day it is to see if it actually released on time.
These things take time. 😁
@jcordeiro
Supposedly it was Christmas for the Last of Us originally but knowing Naughty Dog development progress was probably ahead of schedule so they were like sure just do September.
@Grumblevolcano Yeah, I can definitely see that. The question is if it's really ready or not. You'd think it would be, but with the HFW comparison they weren't sure if it would be or not, decided it wasn't, delayed it, and given the rough start with all the patches, probably should have been delayed even further. Both are really PS4 games, so it's not like there's a massive tech hurdle to overcome, but....
@rjejr LOL, I did read and somehow missed that one. The new avatar throws me off too
I’ve had an idea GOW2 release date 11/11/22
Just for fun 🤩
Sometimes I’d appreciate some adult accountability. It wouldn’t hurt something like ‘ sorry we jumped the gun on questionable rumours’ and would gain respect from everyone.
This from JS is cool even though that doesn’t guaranty anything. Any game could be pushed back to the next year easily. It’s just not worth it to make headlines about pure speculations.
Again wait for official announcement we all know is soon anyway.
Can’t wait!!! One of THE games of the ps4 generation made better on PS5. Now the sequel. Boy does it have a lot to live upto!
@The_Pixel_King That is a pretty solid list right there, imagine getting a PS5 for Xmas and getting those games, what Xmas that would be!
@Grumblevolcano
The placeholder date changed from September to December and a few people speculated that means next year. I think that’s where the previous rumour came from and it was ridiculous to pretend speculation = European mysterious serious sources
Bloomberg is definitely not a reliable news source lol
Excellent, I'll probably wait a week or so before playing anyway for the first couple of the inevitable patches.
This guy said it wouldn't be on PS4. Can we trust him on a release date?
@NEStalgia Yeah I've had that problem too with people changing avatars, but I saw this one on Twitter - some guy was getting roasted - and had to have it. Of course you can't read it here but whatever.
Stiff competition for the gaming dollars in Q4 '22 / Q1 '23. Between Gotham Knights, The Callisto Protocol, Dead Space Remake, Modern Wafare II and now GOD OF WAR: Ragnarok, I'm going to have a heck of a backlog.....which is a good problem to have!
@themightyant It was supposed to release in 2021....
November 2022 would be great, but I won't be surprised if it's pushed back into 2023 to give it more development time and love.
Regardless of when it releases, I look forward to continuing the story!
still ain't touchin Elden Ring for GOTY
