The long-awaited Resident Evil Village DLC has been revealed as Shadows of Rose, a new expansion that takes place after the events of the main game and focuses on Ethan Winters' daughter. It's releasing on 28th October 2022 along with two other content updates: more playable characters for the Mercenaries mode as well as a third-person mode for the base game.
This will all be packaged together in a Gold Edition out on the same day for PS5 and PS4, or you can simply buy Shadows of Rose if you already own the game. Set 16 years after the original game, Rosemary "has grown up and is now struggling with terrifying powers. In search of a way to break free from her curse, Rose enters the consciousness of the Megamycete. Rose's journey takes her to a mysterious realm where memories of the past return to create a warped and twisted world of nightmares." This DLC takes place in the third-person perspective.
The third-person mode will then let you see Ethan Winters at all times should you wish to replay the game using the fresh perspective, while Mercenaries lets you play as Chris Redfield, Heisenberg, and Lady Dimitrescu. There'll also be new stages to play on. Finally, releasing on the same day will be multiplayer mode Resident Evil Re:Verse.

So excited for this and i'm glad the cliffhanger from Village won't be a RE9 thing as it would be a long wait.
Just in time for Halloween the perfect time to release it can't wait
This looks good, both the Rose dlc and the mercenaries content, playing as Lady Dimetrescu should be fun. Then you have the third person option for those that want it and upcoming PSVR2 support and with all the next gen versions and RE4 it's a great time to be a Resident Evil fan.
I guess this means RE9 is gonna follow Chris
I am impressed that they actually included Lady Dimitrescu in the mercenaries mode lmao.
@Nepp67 I'll definitely be playing as big mommy milkers lol
Looks like I'll be playing this for Halloween! I'm assuming the Gold Edition will have a physical release? I'll probably buy it for Series X, since I already have the base game for PS5. But i do love the Adaptive triggers on the Dualsense controller...
Very happy with 3rd person mode. I may actually play RE8 now.
All the new content looks great!
I’m glad they’re continuing Rose’s story. That ending left a lot of questions and theories. I’ll be getting this day 1. Hopefully there’s some trophies to go with it. I wish Capcom would have done something to explain the ending of RE3 Remake where you see an unknown person grab a vial with the virus in it.
I'll definitely play RE8 now it's in 3rd person view. I've never played RE7 and RE8 because of it being FPV, I'm so glad of this. Shame they couldn't of added a 3rd person to RE7 as well buy oh well.
Third person mode? Yes!
Ethan has a face?
@carlos82 If It Resident Evil 9 Takes Place Around The Same Timeframe That Shadow Of Rose DLC Does He Will Be To Old Hell Most Of The OG Cast Will Be Old.
@BobbyDG Maybe RE4 remake will cover that.
Could be the Lost Legacy I end up preferring again
@BobbyDG I assumed that was Ada after she'd recovered a sample of the G virus
I honestly thought they were announcing RE9 when they showed off the Shadows of Rose DLC!
Also excited that we're finally getting a 3rd person mode...now they just need to add a similar thing to Resident Evil 7.
@Snake_V5 I'm hopeful if Resident Evil 8's third person mode does well, they may give the same treatment to RE7 too.
@nessisonett Honestly a bit strange that they're actually revealing his face through a third person update after trying to keep it hidden for so long.
Awesome. Been holding off buying until the inevitable Gold Edition.
@Would_you_kindly Ya, it must be. Maybe the RE4 Remake will add something about that.
@WallyWest I hope so. Hopefully there’s some stuff added into the story.
Day one. This is still my favorite game for the current gen consoles. Love that it takes place from third person perspective also, I didn't mind first person at all but RE just seems like one of those series that's better with the over the should view.
Capcom’s presentation may well have been the best one of the “E3 season” this year, barring of course potentially other presentations to come. I think it edged out State of Play, if only because literally everything Capcom had to show was interesting… the continuation of Village most interesting of all. Can’t wait! I literally thought Rose’s part in the story would have to wait for RE9. This may well be the first DLC to crack a “top 10 games of the year” list for me, based on what I’ve seen.
@Areus I don't think it'll be set then, I suspect it'll be set just after Village
Given the time we’ve waited for the DLC, I wouldn’t be surprised if this DLC release follows a fairly quick turnaround of an RE9 announcement and I’m so pumped for it. This series is amazing at the moment.
Wait. So is the Story DLC paid or free? Don't see it mentioned anywhere. Im assuming paid since they are releasing a Gold Edition?
Oh hell yeah — I'm all over this. Village might be my favourite, most well-balanced entry in the RE series since 2
Definitely all over every bit of this but I REALLY hope there aren’t any trophies related to Mercenaries mode!
