Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was transformative with PSVR, but it was restricted in some ways. Perhaps hamstrung by the aging PS Move controllers, it was played entirely with the DualShock 4 controller. This was, of course, an adequate experience – but it lacked the tactile feel that we’ve come to expect from virtual reality. You couldn’t, after all, physically interact with the world.
Resident Evil Village will change all that, as Capcom is rebuilding gameplay elements from the ground-up, specifically for the new PSVR2 Sense Controllers. “Try guarding using both of your arms and Ethan will guard in the same way; hold up a gun and Ethan will hold up his,” producer Tsuyoshi Kanda said. “You are also now able to execute dynamic actions such as firing your gun while holding a knife with the other hand, or holding a handgun with one hand and a shotgun with the other. These advanced controllers increase the player’s immersion with the game.”
Judging by the PS Blog post, all this additional development will carry a cost, as Capcom has said that information on the “release date and pricing” will be announced in due course. We suspect there’ll be an upgrade fee for existing owners of the game, but that’s purely speculation on our part. Still, with this much effort being invested to translate the gameplay, that feels fair from where we’re sitting.

This sounds AMAZING! I already love this game, but what they’re planning with the controllers sounds like some next-level awesomeness!! PSVR2 sold!
It sounds cool. Rebuilding some of the gameplay elements will make it feel new and fresh again. Too bad VR makes me sick, otherwise I would have given it a try.
I just don't believe this new hardware is going to do well. The original was $400 at launch and I expect this one with the controllers to be $500 minimum. That's on top of needing the PS5... if you can find one. Then you have mass inflation of everything and people's play money that they would have spent on this... well it's basically gone. For PSVR2 to hit the masses, the world is going to have to fix itself rather quickly.
Really wanna try this out I don't even wanna imagine the section in Donna's house 😱😱😱😱😱😭😭😭😭😭
Hopefully Hitman can rebalance its VR to work with PSVR2. Controls were awkward with the current setup. Would be perfect with PSVR2
I can't wait to get my hands on PSVR2.
VR completely transforms the impact of Resident Evil 7. I have no doubt that Resident Evil 8 will blow my mind.
Day one for me, even if I'm paying for it again.
I loved Village but I think I’d quite literally die if I played this. Not sure my heart could take Donna’s house.
@Uncharted2007 I think you might be underestimating how willing people are to spend oodles of cash on entertainment so they can ignore how F-ed up this world is… But it’s definitely an expensive proposition!
@Uncharted2007 Doesn't really need to hit the masses, though.
@get2sammyb TBH Sony's track record of actually supporting hardware that has not hit the masses is not that great. I don't want to say that PSVR2 will be a flop but I don't see an expensive add on for an expensive console that you still cannot buy easily (also in a bizarre worldwide economy) be much of a success. And few initial sales will lead to lower games been developed etc. and you move towards a Vita situation.
Edit: Now that I think about it the first VR is not very much supported, is it?
Very cool. I hope the incoming PS5 version of RE7 will have PSVR2 support as well.
@belmont The original PSVR was excellently supported. Has still been receiving noteworthy games this year!
@get2sammyb That's great actually, I guess I didn't follow the news since neither me nor any of my friends bought the PSVR1 device. I have the Move controller from the PS3 era and haven't used it almost since I bought it lol. Still, I don't think that PSVR2 will be that successful, we will wait and see
I'm fine with an upgrade fee for VR games like this, they have to do additional work and I'm willing to pay for it.
@get2sammyb PSVR was one of my favourite parts of last gen and I suspect it'll be the same with PSVR2. I'm not sure it'll ever be mainstream but if they keep supporting it then I'm happy
I might check this VR mode out, but unless they're adding new trophies I won't spend that long.
@KidBoruto I think it will be a full priced seperate release like doom 3 vr , Blair witch vr , layers of fear vr , Skyrim vr etc
@Would_you_kindly Oh, interesting! Do you think there will be a separate trophy list?
@KidBoruto if it's a seperate release then yeah it would have a seperate trophy list
Can't wait to see my hand get sliced off in VR!
