Techland's post-launch support of 2015 game Dying Light has been nothing short of immense, but all good things must come to an end. After a whole seven years of expansions, patches, and content updates, the Polish studio is closing the book on the title with a final Definitive Edition available on the PS Store tomorrow. You will be automatically upgraded to this new version if you already own the Platinum Edition.
If not, the new Definitive Edition will be discounted by as much as 70 per cent when the listing goes live in the next 24 hours. It contains the base game and a whopping 26 pieces of DLC, including The Following expansion and many skin bundles. Don't forget Dying Light recently received a PS5 patch, so it'll look and run better on your current-gen system. You can flick between a few different modes that prioritise resolutions and frame rates.
Even if you only own the original game, though, you're still benefiting from the launch of the Definitive Edition. Techland is also making the Harran Tactical Unit Bundle free for two weeks, which includes armour skins and a handful of weapons. It usually costs £2.49/$2.99. This is on top of the recent offer which saw the contents of the Enhanced Edition given out to every single Dying Light PS4 owner for free.
And while no new content will be developed for the game, past events will be rerolled into the first-person title on an undetermined basis. In a press release, Techland said: "Once again, we couldn’t be happier with the awe-inspiring memories this game has brought us, primarily because of our wonderful community. And yet, we also feel it’s the perfect time to move on and shift our focus towards brand-new adventures in the city of Villedor."

It took 2 weeks after the supposed date for the enhanced edition content to actually become free (and of course no media reported on this because Techland "can do no wrong"). I wonder how long after this announced date will this definitive edition content finally become available for existing owners.
I wish companies would stop re-releasing all these different editions and just make existing DLC free so everyone can, essentially, upgrade with whatever it is they want.
Sell the game. MAYBE do a GOTY edition. But after that? Sell DLC, and over time, just make that DLC free if you want players to benefit. None of the content nowadays is actually bundled anyway. You just get codes/vouchers for the DLC. So just make it free for existing users. Simple as that. This game did not need 6-7 versions over its life span. No game does.
Been hoping for a long time that this would come to psplus. Looked cool but couldn't see myself getting it retail.
There is no trophy stack so can't be bothered to play on consoles again, I would rather play on pc with mods imo, the "free" upgrade for base game users was anticlimactic, I didn't even bother to play it honestly
@MFTWrecks You a real complete /GOTY edition. Final Fantasy started the trend with releasing something thats called a Royal Edition and it wasnt even complete.
I have to give it to them great support but i agree with MFTwrecks on this release it support and release one final edition if you want to.
Techland supported the game really well and I like them doing this, not sure what company would be comparable but maybe hello games and no man's sky?
Hard to really praise them anymore when they only sell the Enhanced and Platinum Editions, but then offer the Enhanced Edition content for free to everybody. It would be different if there was an actual option to buy the base game digitally, but there's not, so I had just bought the Enhanced Edition for nothing shortly before they announced that.
I give them credit for supporting the game for so long, but that pretty much erased most of their good will in my opinion. Why should people have to pay extra for something that others are just getting for free now anyways?
@SpiralOut I hate the Ubisoft way its impossible to get a any complete and it has several editions where even the most expensive edition wont be complete.
@tameshiyaku Hmm yeah, it is very strange after all this time, Dying Light has never been offered thru PS Plus.
Hopefully it will be added to the Extra/Premium tiers at launch or over time.
Does This edition have a separate trophy list? Or is it the same?
@huyi It's still the same trophy list.
@Leonhart still?! what a waste! I can't be bothered with it then, probably play it on pc instead smdh
