Update: Hey, we told you that it would be close! Ubisoft has confirmed that the Forgotten Saga DLC will launch alongside Assassin's Creed Valhalla update 1.6.0 on the 2nd August.
The patch notes for said update will likely be published the day before, and we'll be sure to post them here on the site once they arrive.
Original Story: Whether you're a fan of Assassin's Creed Valhalla or not, you've got to admit that Ubisoft has done a great job of supporting it over the last two years or so. Said support is finally starting to wind down now, but the next slice of additional content sounds genuinely impressive in terms of scope — and it's a totally free update if you already own the base game.
Titled 'Forgotten Saga', this is a new adventure that essentially transforms Valhalla's gameplay blueprint into a mythology-based roguelike. Ubisoft has released a new video — embedded above — that covers the systems and mechanics of this fresh foray into Odin's legend. Definitely worth watching if you've been looking for an excuse to return to the open world title.
It should be noted, however, that Forgotten Saga doesn't have a release date just yet — but if Ubisoft is starting to push it through this kind of media, then it can't be far off. August could be a safe bet, we think.

I spent 220h in this game and didn't even play the DLCs. I'm kinda over it tbh.
It looks and sounds a lot like Returnal, albeit with a different combat system of course. I guess it makes sense with the roguelite influences.
@MUG3NHC yeah there are some games I'd love to have abit more content but the assassins creed games are already far too bloated
The mothership will be happy. She loves AC.
I'm not usually into Roguelites/ Rogue-like in general but Ubisoft is the odd exception. I liked the Far Cry 6 DLC takes in the formula and I love AC Valhalla so I'll definitely at least give this a shot at some point.
Ubisoft has does a fantastic job of adding content, but the biggest problem with the game is how boring and redundant gameplay becomes and the barren open world.
Love this. Can't get enough AC!
cool freebie. sounds a bit like hades.
I hated the far cry 6 rouge game so I certainly won't like this either, definitely gonna pass on this
Free story content is always welcome, thanks for sharing the news!
One of the best games Iv ever played. 160 hours in and still not finished sand I have ragnrorak to start 😁
Valhalla was released November 10th 2020. It’s less than two years old, a little over a year and a half.
Excuse the pedantry.
God Valhalla was boring. I really think they made huge mistake going open world in the manner they did, however i think it was done to actually make it easier to copy/paste and cut costs in developing iterations from origins on. The stealth mechanics and traversal now take a back seat to easy, mediocre, dodge/hack and slash nonsense, but what has really hurt the franchise is the story telling.
It used to be more political, in depth, and focused on Templar / assassin lore along with true human origin theories that were all rooted in a real-world historical context in which all 3 factions absolutely existed in our past to some extent although obviously embellished or altered.
Had they stuck truer to the story and incorporated all elements into the open world design it could have worked. However, to trade good story for bad, fun traversal and vertical locations, to copy and pasted outpost assets, and more tactical combat that could have been updated and expanded, to button mashing nonsense and stealth being an afterthought. I say this having recently gone back and played older titles, barring black flag which was also just nonsense in terms of calling it an AC game but a fun game, yet looking back it was essentially the beginning of the death of AC, Unity and Syndicate tried to hold on to no avail.
I think Ubisoft will eventually have to downsize and revive much of what gained them popularity, especially after seeing them completely implode these last two weeks and are on the cusp of releasing a pirate game even its own developers think is half baked.
Valhalla was the worst of the post Origins iterations by FAR
