If you haven’t heard of Visco’s 1996 fighting game Breakers and its 1998 sequel Breakers Revenge then the reality is that you’re probably not cool enough. Nah, we’re just kidding – that’s fair enough. The game first released in arcades, but was later ported to the Neo Geo. Of course, we’re not talking about a Street Fighter-style sensation here – it’s more of a cult classic.
And it’s getting another shot in the spotlight courtesy of the ever-industrious QUByte and its ability to miraculously rekindle dead intellectual property. It’s putting in work on this PS5 and PS4 re-release as well, promising rollback netcode and full crossplay for its online multiplayer. The game will need the latter, as we can’t see it attracting an enormous player pool overall.
Other features include an Interactive Replay system, which will allow you to watch back various gameplay replays, and take control at any stage. There’ll also be artwork, a training mode, and a new Team Battle option – all pretty neat. It sounds like this is being handled with care, which is great to see – we’re loving the resurgence of these retro re-releases on modern consoles.

QUByte has been putting out some interesting curiosities under their classics label, but this seems like a real gem. Looking forward to playing it.
