Ubisoft has today delayed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to its next fiscal year, meaning it will miss the tie-in with 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water movie. The game was originally slated to launch at the end of this year, but this big pushback means it could now release as late as April 2024 in accordance with the fiscal year. Does the French team have another Beyond Good & Evil 2 on its hands?
In a statement, it's explained extra development time is needed due to "ongoing constraints on productions across the industry". However, Ubisoft sees the game as the start of a "major multi-year opportunity" as it "takes full advantage of next-gen technology". In fairness, the publisher can simply line up the PS5 title with one of the many other Avatar movies in production.
The game hasn't been shown whatsoever since its E3 2021 reveal, but it was presumed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would feature in a Ubisoft Forward livestream set for September. While it could still put in an appearance, it likely won't be of much substance considering how far out the game could be now. The only other key detail we know of is that Sony might have marketing rights to the title. Come back in a year and you might catch an advert on TV with a PS5 at the end.

If something has anything to do with James Camerons Avatar it will be delayed. Thems the rules
Are Sony studios the only ones that can get top quality AAA games out at the moment.
Makes me appreciate them even more.
Ubisoft is terrible with keeping their release dates. Skull and Bones, Prince of Persia remake, and now this?
As long as it turns out good, I don't mind!
"ongoing constraints on productions across the industry"
I remember reading an article a few months ago about Ubisoft losing a large portion of their development staff. I wonder if this statement is related to that story.
It's hard to make games if there isn't anyone to make them.
Maybe they need to start setting realistic release dates for their titles? Just maybe?
@Dezzy70 I agree, but let's hope that Microsoft can start competing in 2023 with Starfield, Hellblade 2 and Avowed.
Competition always leads to quality. The best example is the WWF vs WCW Monday night wars.
Nooooooo! This was the game I was most looking forward to ☹️
At this rate It will be Sony and God Of War holding the AAA banner. That needs to hold.
Wouldn't be an Avatar product without a delay tbf.
@Rotterdam
I’ve more given up on Xbox for now
Maybe 2023 but the last game they delayed Halo Infinite was better for the delay but no big AAA it should have been.
My confidence in Xbox is very low and don’t bother with them now.
Yes competition is always good.
@Dezzy70 God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7… all subject to lengthy delays. Let’s not pretend that Sony is somehow above this stuff.
They're having a real tough time figuring out where the radio towers go on the landscape of Pandora.
@commentlife
I not saying Sony games don’t get delayed
But they are more organised on overall timing of releases through the year and years.
You named the three for this year 2022
All being released 😊
Im just tired of the fake release dates when they were never planned to release there in the first place.
I had a feeling a delay was on the horizon, but 2024?
It must be going through changes as thats a very long delay for simply not ready
@Dezzy70 which top quality game did Sony release that was on time as of late? HFW was a delayed release, GT7, delayed, Ratchet and C delayed, GOW delayed, I can only think of maybe Demon Souls and Spiderman Miles as releasing as it stated.
@KundaliniRising333
I never said anything about delays at all.
Yes Sony games get delayed.
But Sony seem to have a good spread of games through the year and years.
They seem more organised on releasing their big studio games, in a good order.
Look at 2022, HFW, GT7 and now GOWR November 2022. That’s a fine bunch of big games for 2022.
Ok GT7 is not for me but the other two are top end must have day one for me.
@Dezzy70 i gotcha
Delays are just the name of the game these days, especially with the pandemic. But hey, it'll release in time for Avatar 3!
Seems like Ubisoft can't ship anything but generic live service games anymore.
Wow wow wow, I assumed this title was a sure bet given how the avatar film has been delayed several times. I thought this was in polishing phase of the last few months in preparation for the film. An early summer release perhaps?
That's a shame as i was excited for it.
Staying true to its source material with a 2-year delay. nice.
Any new concept that is not in line with farcry BS
seems to be difficult for ubisoft management and its employees.
Like any new idea is behind a big f...ing wall of shortsided managers.
Good news for this title; could be great. I’ve loved diving into the latest few AC games so I’m (cautiously) optimistic for Ubisoft going forward
@BartoxTharglod
And, you are?
@BartoxTharglod
It was not aimed at any other company in particular as I did not mention any other company be it main or third party.
Just that Sony seem good at organising thoughout the year and years their in house big AAA releases.
As for Nintendo and the Switch as you mentioned it.
Loved my switch in the early years BOTW, MK, Luigi mansion 3, Mario Odyssey the big AAA games I just adore.
But over the last two years they have not backed that up for me with more of those type of games.
Like another new big AAA platform game Mario or donkey Kong. We have only had one since release Mario Odyssey, not including remakes or the good but small bowser fury add on.
It’s just personal preference.
@Arisen @starbuck2212 @Danloaded Avatar media do indeed seem cursed to always be delayed and delayed lol.
I still find it hard to believe that Avatar 2 will be premiering in theaters this December...keep expecting them to announce yet another delay again.
