Dune, the classic sci-fi novel, recently made its way to the big screen with a big budget movie. With the sandy tale back in the zeitgeist, surely it makes sense to work out a video game adaptation, too? The folks at Funcom and developer Level Infinite certainly think so, as they've just announced Dune Awakening. Check out the announcement trailer above.
Dune Awakening is an open world survival MMO based on the film, allowing you and many other players to explore the world of Arrakis. Details are light aside from that, but the promise of a fully explorable world set within Dune's universe will be pretty exciting for fans.
There's no release date attached, so it could still be a way off, but we do know it's heading to PS5 eventually. Are you excited about Dune Awakening? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sure, excited because it's Dune, but not at all a fan of the MMO bit.
Load of MMO toss.
Dune, yes. MMO, sure. Survival, dammit.
Dune + open world survival is a double whammy of nope.
So Conan Exiles in a Dune skin...pass
Dune? Yeeeees!
Survival MMO? Nooooooo
More like M-M-NO.
People here seem pretty down on the idea of this, but as someone who doesn't play a lot of multiplayer games I ended up loving Conan Exiles and had tons of really memorable experiences...I'll gladly be the guy in the comments saying that I'm excited for this.
Gotta love how people dismiss a game out of hand just because of it's genre.
If its good as a solo MMO I might bite.
He who controls the loot controls the server!
All jokes aside I love the Dune franchise. I used to frequently watch the original 1984 Dune in the 2000s when it was on heavy rotation on HBO Family and the new Dune movie is a masterpiece. But a Survival MMO? No thanks.
They had the biggest open goal in history for a single player rise to power playing as Paul and they made an MMO. I will enjoy every moment of watching this fail.
I'm actually reading Dune Messiah right now and think it's fantastic; this game sounds like the opposite of what I would enjoy. No thanks!
I'll definitely be checking out launch gameplay, but doubt I'll be playing the game myself...
The three stages of disappointment:
1. A new Dune game! BRILLIANT!
2. Open world survival game? Okay...
3. MMO. Oh no.
Lost me at survival MMO
@AdamNovice If you dont like a genre of gaming is that strange?
