Hogwarts Legacy is shaping up to be the Harry Potter game of our dreams, and it's kind of surprising we don't have a firm release date already, considering the wizarding simulator is currently slated for a Holiday 2022 release.
Well, we might have a better idea of when we can expect to don our robes, at least, if the release date for an art book listing is anything to go by.
Amazon UK customers who had pre-ordered a companion book to the game, The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy: Exploring the Unwritten Wizarding World, noticed that the placeholder release date for the book had changed from 31st December to 6th December 2022. In addition, customers received emails (which have been seen by VGC) notifying them of this change of release date.
The 6th of December also happens to be Hagrid's birthday, which may or may not be relevant to this story, but it is to us!
So what does an art book have to do with the release of the game? As Reddit user Aromatic-Adaggio2121 helpfully points out, Gotham Knights (another Warner Bros. game) is getting a similar art book, which is set to coincide with that game's launch, on 25th October, which gives us some hope.
So while certainly not set in stone, there is a possibility our childhood dreams could be realised, and we could spend this winter ensconced in Hogwarts. In other Hogwarts Legacy news, preorders of the highest-tier Collectors Edition of the game could come with 72 hours of early access, according to a leak gleaned from the game's official website.
What do you think of this potential Hogwarts Legacy release date? Where are your hype levels on this one? Keep an eye out for an owl in the comments section below.

There is literally too much coming out from now to December, so I'd be fine if the game got pushed back, but if this does end up coming, it is the type of game I'd drop all other games in a heartbeat to play!
Given Holiday 2022 means Christmas 2022, I just assumed it would release in time for people to buy it as a gift. Didn’t everybody else? The 31st was, as stated, clearly a placeholder.
#1 game on my “must buy” list for this year!
@GorosBat games don't need to be pushed back. Just don't buy them all on day 1. And chances are they'll drop in price by time you're ready to play it. Plus it also gives the debs to patch the inevitable day 1 bugs.
@Gloamin true it is sad its needed. But it has worked and the last few articles havent descended into arguments. Which imo is better.
And I could find happiness. Doubtful on both fronts.
Can't wait for this. I love Rowlings work.
Can't stand Rowling's banal fusion of The Worst Witch and every mediocre generic fantasy dross so count me out on this one.
This editorial decision is personally upsetting and possibly dangerous for others. Really disappointing. Other gaming websites have figured out how to cover this responsibly, and I wonder if that is reflective of more representation at the decision-making table. This means enough to me to no longer visit this website after several years of loyal readership. I wonder how many more feel the same way, but don’t feel comfortable saying so? It pays to do the work.
I’d also note a comment supporting this decision is still up, so already you’re breaking your own rule as long as it suits your needs.
@nicc83 @gloamin Because trans people no longer feel safe here — “gamers” are the priority. Congrats?
This would be great if true! Really excited for this one!
@GoodOlDubs if thats what you think then OK.
I'm not going to get into any debates over it.
Have a lovely day pal.
@nicc83 “Pal.”
And yet, I’m sure it’s my comments that will be deemed rude and deleted. Guess we’ll see.
I’m conflicted.... .
Hagrid s birthday would likely be an internal target day & it would be the perfect Xmas game.
Chilling in Hogsmeade with some butter beer 🍺. That would be too great to be true.
Expecting it to be delayed.
Can’t wait! This is maybe the only game I’m 100% getting that I haven’t preordered yet. I wonder when the reveal will finally come!
Cautiously optimistic about this one, was never a huge fan of HP but this game just looked so darn ambitious the last time they showed it, just hope they can pull it off
I have my reservations about this. I don’t think this developer is known for releases anywhere close to this scale. Hell, I only remember from Mortal Kombat ports in the 90’s
I have no interest in 'Harry Potter' or even know what's being said, what memes or comments anyone has said at all and couldn't care less. I also have faith in Karma...
As for this game, what interests me is the 'wizarding' world and its fantastical beasts. I don't care if its tied to a known IP (like Harry Potter), its the potential game-play and experience it offers. I like the 'idea' of being a 'young' wizard attending a school for magic and evolving 'my' wizard the way I want - not following in HP's footsteps and 'replaying' his story.
As I said, if this wasn't tied to the Harry Potter universe, I'd still be very interested in the 'magical' world and basic set-up (young wizard at a school for magic) that the game is delivering.
As for the opinions of the creator of the HP world, I believe in Karma. I also believe that playing any game does not mean I share the same 'opinions' as the creator, author, director etc. Its the 'ecosystem' its on that should ensure its a 'Safe' place for ALL gamers and that people are able to enjoy playing the games they want.
@GoodOlDubs
Possibly Dangerous? Give it a break bud seriously!
I don't know if you've realised but apart from yourself, everyone here is talking about the GAME and the GAME alone, no-one is condoning anything from whom shall not be named, and I'm sure no-one on here ever will.
PushSquare is easily one of the safest internet forums around, you can assure the moment any conversation detracts from the game itself and becomes sour towards the LGBTQ+ community, mods will instantly take action as they should.
I appreciate your concerns but this is a good community, we're mature enough here to talk about a video game without it all collapsing into harsh debates on social topics that shouldn't be associated to this title at all.
This argument doesn’t work: you feel safe because you aren’t affected. You can talk about the game and the game alone because you have that privilege. Enjoy, everyone. Glad you feel safe. You’re not going to hear from anyone who doesn’t feel the same way, for obvious reasons.
I’ve been called “pal” and “bud” in two responses urging me to “give it a break” or to “chill.” You don’t know me, you don’t know my gender, but you make assumptions: we’re all just dudes here talkin “vidyuh games.” That is interesting to me, and I think the crux of this problem: this decision is made from a cis male perspective and assumes everyone coming here shares it. That’s a shame. For some reason, as an avid reader over the years, I expected better.
..."Thought you ought to know." Priceless!
I'm so torn on this game on one hand I dont enjoy Harry potter and I dont get the whole how Harry potter stuff is massive but on the other it looks like the type of game I'd play the hell out of .....hmmmmm
@Gloamin with respect, this tagline you are celebrating misses the mark. I know I am coming off as unchill or whatever, but I think it’s important to explain these concerns in every venue possible. It references, for instance, “the views and values of some of the creatives involved with the Harry Potter universe,” which includes the belief from their most important and visible creative that trans women aren’t women — misinformation that leads to those women becoming victims of violence and hate crimes at a frighteningly frequent rate.
This disclaimer would have it that we just ignore all that and just focus on the gameplay. My point is that a great many are not in a position to do so, and to ignore this dynamic fails trans people and misses a chance to be bold with coverage. There are some very simple things this blog can do to achieve that, including a story examining this issue, a page with resources for people in need of help, and so on. I’m not saying pushsquare needs to stop covering news around this game — it just needs to be smarter about it.
@Gloamin gotcha. I’ve already given some ideas in my previous comment. Hopefully someone is reading and not immediately binning em
@GoodOlDubs its a website about video games and has nothing to do with any of the politics you are trying to discuss. take your grievances elsewhere
@Logonogo the fact you can’t see how one is related to the other is one of the problems here.
December 6th would be great. Enough time for Ragnarök!
@Logonogo The issue is that the fandoms get monetised, and at least a part of that money gets funneled towards hurting the fandoms.
It was the exact same deal with Scott Cawthorn.
So while the first post says "Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum" and that is completely true, it is effectively helping the harmful part (the funding and spread of harmful policies), while also shutting down (creating a vacuum on) the counter of the people being harmed by it.
Surely, we can all agree, if we support trans' rights, that this kind of situation must be incredibly frustrating for LGBTQ members?
@Richnj 🍻
@GoodOlDubs Don’t let the door hit you on the way out
@marnelljm Nice.
@pushsquare, This what you want for people to read? I’m offering constructive feedback to make this website better. What you’re doing instead is made people like this feel more emboldened.
@TeapotBuddha hey, thanks. Appreciate it. And I agree. That or an unwillingness to entertain other perspectives. I’m hoping they will see a little work will go a long way.
@somnambulance @Fight_Teza_Fight @Korgon @Ken_Kaniff @Gloamin @GorosBat Hogwarts Legacy will be a Day 1 buy for me, no matter what the release date turns out to be!
However I probably will wait a few months for it to be fully patched, so I can experience the game as it's meant to be.
@KidBoruto I hope it’s December 6th. Enough time to potentially plow through Pokémon first if my wife and kids let me and then jump in regardless of patches. Lol.
@somnambulance I've been burned too many times by playing games at release, so now I wait a few months (but I still pre-order to support the developers).
