Ah, Bloodborne. One of Sony's most beloved PlayStation exclusive games, and arguably one of its most neglected. The action RPG, developed by FromSoftware and now-defunct Japan Studio, is widely regarded as one of the best games of the last generation, and that's despite its somewhat shoddy technical performance. Long loads and a choppy framerate leave fans wishing Sony would do something to improve things, but it hasn't. Lance McDonald, a modder who got the game running smoothly, says it'd be easy.
Writing in a short thread on Twitter, McDonald has reiterated that Sony has all it needs to get Bloodborne on PS4 updated, or to produce a PS5/PC port or remake. According to the modder, who knows the game inside and out, an update to the PS4 game to get it running at 60 frames-per-second "is 2 lines of code that need changing".
In the same message, McDonald says Japan Studio had a version of the game running on Windows 7 prior to its closure, though of course that never went anywhere. "I've seen it," he says. Presuming Sony still has access to this version, a PC port is certainly within the realm of possibility — whether it happens is another matter.
McDonald ultimately signs off on a hopeful note, saying work on some sort of Bloodborne update — whether a patch, a PS5 revival, a PC port — is "very likely" in the works. What do you think? Are you still holding out hope for Bloodborne to return? Fear the old blood in the comments section below.

We absolutely have not seen the last of Bloodborne.
Just last year Miyazaki was saying this is one of FromSoftware's favourite games that they have made, that they want to make more, but it's up to Sony to make it happen.
There's also an ongoing comic book series set in the Bloodborne world.
Whether we get an update to the first game or news of a sequel, it's only a matter of time.
Don't give me hope
It's shambolic that it never got anything for PS4 Pro let alone PS5.
Same with RDR2 not having any next gen upgrade.
Just tell Jim Ryan it's got multiplayer and he'll greenlight it in a heartbeat.
Bloodborne at 60fps and no frame stutter may be possible?! Have I crossed over into a different universe?
Nah… give me a Remake/Remaster Sony. I want to plat it all over again!
Yeah I'd still play it on my couch on PS4 with 30fps rather than hunched over on a PC at a freaking desk lol
@BoldAndBrash you do realize you can plug a pc into a tv and use a controller right?
Or you could just play the disc version and not update it.
At this point I suspect the reason may be more related to want. I think they are either planning, developing, or keeping their options open for a Bloodborne remaster. And a 60fps patch for the PS4 version would eat into sales somewhat.
People want this game to be at 60fps so bad and then the outrage will begin once they start charging $60 for it
Lets hope so! Bought the complete edition and the drop to 30fps is too much eye strain.
Bloodborne is like the best game out of the last console generation. Absolutely mental they still haven’t done anything with it yet.
Most likely we'll have a Director's Cut around the corner... Let's hope for a reasonable upgrade fee, in this case I'd pay for it gladly even if I don't want to
I just want a ps5 upgrade not a patch. I want to platinum this amazing game again from scratch. I’d like to do I different build. I focused on the Hunter’s Axe/strength build my first time around, Demon’s Souls I used magic because I’m lame, and although I’m not far, I’ve been doing an arcane build in Elden Ring. I was so bad at gun parrying in Bloodborne that I had to master dodging. That practice has made me a lot better (from n00b to now semi-n00b) in most games that have a dodge lol. Bloodborne at 60 FPS would be incredible.
@FindMeCampin
A damn hassle is what that is.
@BoldAndBrash how is that a hassle? It’s the same number of steps as playing on a console. Turn on, plug into tv, turn on controller, start game lmao
2 lines of code and, of course, a $70 remaster price tag!
These 2 lines of code that have to be changed really mess up the input delay. This has something to do with the screen updating... There is a video on YouTube. I think it was on digital foundry.
2 lines of code...
30FPS LIMIT = FALSE
60FPS LIMIT = TRUE
@CWill97 Don't you ever spell Demon's Souls like that again. Thank you.
@dschons I was on the toilet and didn’t reread it lol whoops.
@djlard
if isset = "gamer's are whining over 30fps";
Print "60fps and charge £70";
I never understood the love this game kept getting until I actually played it myself. It's a shame FromSoft didn't incorporate more gameplay elements from Bloodborne into Elden Ring... would've made that game a lot more enjoyable to me
Weird, I was watching Lance’s stream last night when he said this. Didn’t think people would make an article about this lol.
@TheArt 🤣🤣🤣
@Breity247 the digital foundry report you're thinking of was about a 3 line code that just fixed frame pacing (rather than frame rate) but did indeed increase input lag. Seems likely that they accepted poor frame pacing (the main reason for visual stuttering) to keep input lag as low as possible. Shame there has to be any sort of compromise in the first place.

@Crispy747 you're right. Thanks for clarifying. I mixed that up.
I believe the only reason for holding back is the potential to milk it.
"Now in 4k and 60fps. Only on Playstation"
If they want another dime for the same game, they better go all in and make it from the ground up.
@Kairu if people are stating that there is demand for something, business sense would be to supply that demand. Especially if the demand is high. I'm sure most Bloodborne players would pay full price to experience 4K 60fps and additional visual filters. Etc. It's not entitlement. But people are showing that there is demand.
cannot play BB on PS5 with 60fps i guess Sony does not want players to play it at all
@roe it's still early days for RDR2 on PS5
Terrible game so can't see it being updated.
I still have some hope they will work on a Bloodborne remaster.
