PS4 players may be in for a big download when it comes to Sony's next blockbuster exclusive. God of War Ragnarok, set to release on the 9th November, could have a file size of around 90GB on the last-gen console. This figure is based on findings from PlayStation Game Size, who notes that, as always, the file size is subject to change once pre-release or day one patches are added to the equation.
Okay, so what about God of War Ragnarok on PS5? As we all know, the PS5 features compression tech that usually allows for smaller file sizes. If Ragnarok ends up being 90GB on PS4, then you'd perhaps expect it to take up less space on current-gen hardware.
However, this isn't always the case. Fellow PlayStation exclusive Horizon Forbidden West, for example, is actually smaller on PS4, at just under 91GB. On PS5, the open world adventure weighs in at a huge 99.3GB. It could quite easily be a similar story with Ragnarok.
We'll have to wait and see, then. Have you made room for Ragnarok on your console? Give us a slightly shocked "boy!" in the comments section below.

I you can carry more than 100 Gb for CoD every year, you will carry 90 GB for such a fantastic game as well
That's a lot of hard drive space!
Maybe I'll just kick Nathan Drake Collection and MH World off and I'm good to go. Mafia Collection is 180GB approx, GT Sport is 100GB+, Cyberpunk 2077 is 100GB+ but naah I'll keep those, can't redownload them.
No problem. Wouldn't expect much less for a top-tier AAA game
Isn't HFW on PS5 160GB? I just saw that a day or 3 ago.
Game's going to be huge. Since this is the last in the Norse series hopefully tons of boss fights.still hoping someone from The Greece pantheon (there's a few kratos hasn't killed) shows up for revenge.
The game is worth the space it takes up so I don't begrudge it. That's 90GB of gaming goodness not poorly optimised bloat like COD.
guess im hoping for a good SSD this black Friday
Remember when people complained about Titanfall being 50GB🤣
These sizes are only going to keep increasing with time.
@TheArt I forget Cyberpunk is so big on PS4, on PS5 its just under 60gb what is pretty incredible.
God of War 2018 was around 45gb on PS4.
This is twice the size, therefore confirms it'll be twice as good.
poor PS4 is gonna need a new fan after this one
@TheArt cyberpunk is 60Gb currently on ps4
If Forbidden West is 99 GB on PS5 with compression I’d bet it’s closer to 140-150 GB without. A lot more details I’d assume w the PS5 build.
Great game by the way…a little disappointed for the ending but that’s to be expected since it’s the middle of the planned trilogy.
PS5 hard drive space is getting to be like electric vehicle range anxiety!
Meanwhile, the PS4 Pro simply shifts some stuff to its TB of external storage and frees up the space on the SSD.....
Shrug, twice the size better gfx and all done in a single shot,.no black " load in/out"
What is people's problem with hard drive space,.do they hoard games on
the drive cause maybe they'll play it again in a month, just delete it then re install what's the problem ?? I don't get it
@Atreus97 twice as good, twice as long and meaty, twice as godly. Sounds like I'm talking about ****
Wouldn't be surprised if the end of them game saw us in a different realm
It shouldn't be on PS4.
Thats impressive.thats way more than god of war 2018 on ps4.word up son
@trev666 Are you sure on PS4 @WallyWest I see.
@TheArt yes version 1.6 is 59.34Gb on ps4 pro
@Uromastryx
Had this debate with some friends recently. I think it comes down to internet setup and how many games you play simultaneously.
Mine is rapid and via ethernet, I can download 100gb games in 20mins or so. I play one/two games at a time so don't care about storage space.
But for others, that can take 1hr+. They also might play multiple games simultaneously so it's more of a big deal
90? Well dam that is large, good thing I have a 5tb external connected to my ps5, no loss for me 😉
@sanderson72 external storage exists you know....
@Netret0120 and at this point the ps5 on release storage size dosnt make any sense with how demanding digital or physical games require, gamers were expected to take on the storage problem with how expensive SSD internal storage is, it really is not fair to the end consumer, PS4 fine we can use externals but ps5? More difficult because of how badly expensive internal storage is currently and game Devs not giving a dam on how big their game is, the situation is overlooked imo
I didn't realize 90GB was considered to be a whopping size given how much digital volume other games take up...
Got to get SSD’d up in these times. Now where is the 16tb 2.5” SATAs ..
@WallyWest Because its a trainwreck on the last gen consoles.
@SinfulDestroyer Took some screen captures on my PS5 this morning, regular and deluxe editions of HFW. Now I'm wondering it that's BOTH the PS4 and PS5 versions downloaded to the PS5 for people who need to play it twice on 1 system?🤷♂️
But I was right about the size listed. 😉
It's getting ever cheaper to buy internal SSD storage for the PS5 (unlike Microsoft's proprietary storage expansion, whose price hasn't dropped much since day 1). I've got a 1TB internal, which I might swap it for a 2TB in another year or two. I'm fine, even with games from Plus I've downloaded but aren't playing right now.
90GB is alot for a single player only game, hopefully it'll be worth it.
