Supermassive Games has issued updates for the first two entries in The Dark Pictures Anthology that sees the entire series now playable natively on PS5. Man of Medan and Little Hope now have native PS5 versions, and there are free PS4 to PS5 upgrades for those who already own them. Unfortunately, the digital copy of Man of Medan acquired through PS Plus Essential doesn't count at the time of writing.
A press release doesn't mention whether the resolution or frame rate of the two titles have been improved, but you can look forward to new difficulty options and QTE warnings, a better UI, updated bearing art and event triggers, and faster walking speeds. There are also more accessibility options, including the ability to resize subtitles.
Most interestingly, though, Man of Medan is being treated to a new ending. In a new chapter called Flooded, there will be new gameplay sequences and deaths to experience. Each title also has another Trophy list to work through.
The updates mean every instalment in The Dark Pictures Anthology can now be played natively on PS5, with the third entry House of Ashes already launching on Sony's latest machine from day one. The franchise's season one finale, The Devil in Me, will release on 18th November 2022. Will you return to Man of Medan and Little Hope for another playthrough? Let us know in the comments below.

I love this kind of dedication to your product. And it really does make a difference in keeping me interested in future episodes.
Recently played through Man of Medan and Little Hope on PS5, so the update won't impact me immediately. But I'm planning on getting the inevitable Session pack and replaying through all 4 games.
This timing was perfect, I literally bought all 3 on sale ready to play for October
OT but no Deallabs PS+ leak so far for October?
Do these have cross play between PS5 to PS4?
Iām glad! I only owned Man of Medan on PS4 and was salty that I had to buy the full bundle of all 3 games to get the PS5 benefits
Man of Medan was pretty mediocre to me but Little Hope was a very welcome improvement even if I saw the plot twist coming a mile away. I don't know If I will ever replay these on PS5 but I will still add these native versions to my library just in case.
"Unfortunately, the digital copy of Man of Medan acquired through PS Plus Essential doesn't count at the time of writing."
Boo! Would have been nice, but alas - can understand why, Man of Medan PS5 will shift double digit units otherwise.
@LiamCroft "Most interestingly, though, Man of Mean is being treated to a new ending." Man of Mean?
On a more serious note, it's kind of a shame that this is yet another that doesn't allow the PS Plus Essential version to be upgraded. I'll have to wait and see if it's worth buying when they are pretty cheap again. The QoL improvements are appreciated, but it would be nice to know if there's much in the way of technical improvements. Also, the PS4 version got patched yesterday, so I'd expect most of the additions to have been added to it too. So, we'll see if the technical improvements make it worth actually buying it.
OK everyone, it's gonna be one of these "Am I the only one" that I generally despise, but...
Am I the only one who thinks that House of Ashes was miles worse than any of the other games, in term of story, characters and especially of graphics?
I was shocked how bad it looked, and how generic and boring the story was... but every review I see put it at least on par with the other games, or even as a better one.
PS : I played HoA on PS5, in case anyone was wondering.
Nice. I'm still yet to play Little Hope or House of Ashes and am meaning to get round to them all at some point
This could be that point starting again with Man of Medan
Was about to start on little hope, so good news š
I have the disc versions of the games, can I still get the upgrade?
These games have had connection issues for years when trying to play 2 players online, and they never bothered to resolve them. That should be the headline. Why buy a game you can't even play?
i love these games. im big in to horror films i prefer the 70s,80s 90s horror movies only thing thats ok nowadays is the conjuring universe. most stuff made today isnt good, i find horror books a lot better, these games are very good i play these coming up to Halloween and after.
So I claimed the PS Plus version of Man of Medan (PS4) previously and I looked at the PS Store today which is offering me the PS5 version as a 'Free Trial'. This is similar to how Ghost of Tsushima positioned the PS Plus version of their Legends mode. I suspect this 'Free Trial' is the full PS5 version treated as a trial because of PS Plus
@Throb yes. That's how these free upgrades work. You gotta buy either the physical or digital to be able to upgrade. Free versions from PS+ does not count
I recently did Little Hope, but if they give me the upgrade through PS essential i will try Man of medan
There is a quality and resolution setting now..also hdr..it looks miles better than ps4.
On Reddit, Supermassive Games said they are looking into fixing the issue preventing the PS+ version from getting the free upgrade. So might still come after all.
@mittensknox nope
All three games have had free trials for a while. It's the full game but you have to play with someone that owns the game - it's so two people can play with one copy.
Actually... I have only one nerves. š¤£ Whole DPA series is one of the best horror games I've ever played. But it will take years before I try to replay it... It just leaved huge mark in my memory.
not even faster walking can save these 2 boring games.
@munkholt I haven't played any of the Dark Pictures games yet, so this is perfect timing for me!
I've loved all the titles from Supermassive Games. I know they haven't all been critically acclaimed but I've had loads of fun with them all. One of my favourite developers.
