Today marks the arrival of a big game update to MultiVersus, the free-to-play platform fighter that's still technically in beta. The headline addition this time is a brand new playable character, with Rick Sanchez of Rick and Morty fame joining the roster. He got his own teaser trailer, which you can watch above.
Rick is a Mage class fighter, using his various gadgets and gizmos to get the upper hand. We're sure he'll be lots of fun to play when he's made available after this latest patch lands.
The update also makes numerous balance adjustments once again, with Garnet, Gizmo, and Steven Universe receiving some buffs. One interesting tweak is that the amount of XP required to get a character's Mastery level all the way to 15 has been doubled. In other words, it's going to take much longer to level up all the fighters following this patch. This is in order to make it "a bit more of a journey".
Another notable change is that the free character you receive after completing the basic tutorial has been changed from Wonder Woman to Shaggy. This means Wonder Woman will need to be unlocked via Gold or Gleamium.
You can see the full patch notes through here. The update will be going live at some point today, 27th September, so if you're excited for Rick, you've not got long to wait. Are you still enjoying MultiVersus on PS5 and PS4? Travel through dimensions in the comments section below.

'A bit more of a j̶o̶u̶r̶n̶e̶y̶ grind'
So, doubling the requirements to level up at this point only punishes new players and makes it that much harder to play without upgrades for a longer period of time……. great idea.
For those that don’t know, characters have specific move upgrades that are locked to later levels. So, this means new players will be handicapped for a longer period of time.
Why are they doing this? It already takes an AGE to level up characters. Ugh.
Yeah, this isn’t going to make me play more - it just means I’ll get bored quicker and stop playing 🙄
The game is already a huge grind.
If they're doing the character EXP changes, they ought to move the moves/perks earlier on the scale and maybe add some cosmetics towards the end few levels. Like perks 1-8, then 9-15 (the grindier ones) just having a few cosmetics that arent going to affect gameplay.
@GagaOooLaLa I don't play the game but do they offer to save you time grinding by paying for it perchance?
On one side, yes, it was far too easy to level up but on the other, I got to agree with @OmegaStriver due to the perks.
I'm glad I got most to level 10 or above but shame for those who haven't.
@riceNpea No but do get XP boost packs if you unlock them in battle passes. I never felt compelled to use them, that might change now.
@riceNpea no, like @AdamNovice said, you can pay real money to unlock the characters (by purchasing gleamium or purchasing one of the founders packs) but you can only level them up through normal play at the moment (and xp boosts from the season pass).
Only thing I want is the ring out animations and it's like $8 for one! I don't get why stuff like this isn't a couple bucks.
@GagaOooLaLa hmmm I wonder if the increase to the grind is a prelude to XP boosters at some point in the future then.
