You’ve played janky old Atari 2600 games on your PlayStation before, so the real star of the upcoming Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is the Atari Jaguar. The reality is, many of you will never have touched the so-called 64-bit system’s calculator controller, so this should prove a real treat for those of you eager to interact with some of the classics from yesteryear.
True story: this author actually owns an Atari Jaguar. Back in the early 2000s, when your humble host was a mere teen, we went on a shopping trip to a nearby mall. The game store there must have discovered some excess inventory of the failed Atari system, because it was flogging the entire console for about £20. Naturally, we grabbed one, along with a couple of games, including DOOM.

There’ll be no DOOM included with Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, of course – you can download a great version from the PS Store – but there will be Tempest 2000, Ruiner Pinball, and Atari Karts, all of which can be seen teased in the trailer embedded above. You’ll also see a few scant seconds of Club Drive and Missile Command 3D.
In addition to over 100 games, spanning multiple Atari systems, this compilation will also include rare interviews and archival footage from ex-executives. Personally, we’re really loving this trend of retro collections coming to PS5 and PS4 – these days you can build up a pretty robust library of classic content just from the PS Store alone. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration will launch on 11th November, 2022.

My mate was always the one with the "other" console,he had a jaguar,neo geo,dreamcast and the list goes on.Loved playing on them though and particularly remember aliens v predator on the jaguar
Was excited for this before but now adding Jaguar ? Hyped!
I have LOADS of retro games on my PS5 now Hamster.co.jp has some amazing classic old games for the PS4 which I can play on my PS5(they are all on PSN to buy) & they bring out a few games each month to which is cool The only thing with these collections is they never put everything on them :-/ Oh well.
Looking forward to Tempest 2000…played nearly every other version of Tempest
No aliens vs predator? Weak
Digital Eclipse is one of the only developers I buy from Day One. The love and care they put into their releases, alongside the genuine game preservation and museum context make them standout developer.
Honestly, the Jaguar's controller is probably one of the worst made. I had a collection of systems between 2000-2010 and a Jaguar was among them. It had the red blinky light problem of the NES, but the controller hampered extended play times with how uncomfortable it was.
I'd probably have gotten this collection if Aliens vs Predator was on it... sadly... it's not. At least, not from the list I saw.
Atari Jaguar - one of the first ways to play Doom without dropping £1500 on a decent PC...
geez i feel old 🤣
@sanderson72
And the 32X and 3DO. Jag version was by far the best though.
Basically if you wanted to play Doom in 1994 without a PC you had to buy a failed console.
Well there was the SNES port. Better than the 3DO version, not that that’s saying something.
3DO version literally runs at like 7 frames per second.
Wow I had a Jaguar, back in the day, truly a terrible console. But Doom, AVP, Iron Soldier and Tempest 2000 were all pretty good for the time. However everything else was total trash! My next console was a launch day PlayStation and the rest is history.
Its a Jaguar not a "Jagwarr" 😉
Heres a novelty, i developed a game for the jaguar cd unit back in the day, whist I worked for Teque London, my first job in the industry.
It was a round unit that sat in top of the jag, so it was affectionally known as 'the toilet' in our office. Of course it never got released, but we had a 3d driving game running on it.
Tempest 2000 was worth owning the whole console for, so im delighted to see its included with this!
Might get this for the Atari Lynx games, just wish it had more from that system!
@OrtadragoonX Doom was the reason I bought my 3DO but never played it on it.
I remember getting the Jaguar on launch day in the UK. What an absolute turd it turned out to be! But Doom, AvP and Tempest 2000 were awesome. Who remembers Trevor Mcfur in the Crescent Galaxy? What a joke that was. It may have just been my cart but the game had no music!!
Was always intrigued by the Lynx and Jaguar but never got around to playing either over the years. I can't wait for this collection simply because of that. Overall, seems like a very well put together package for gamers of all ages and especially those who loved the Atari brand. I was a Nintendo and Sega guy, so while I thought, Lynx especially, had some cool stuff, I never felt too strong a need to get one.
@Gamer83 the Lynx was way before its time. I absolutely loved mine. I lost interest in video games by the time the Jaguar came out, but it still looks cool. It will also be nice to play some arcade and Atari 800 games too.
@Titntin my mate had one of these things with that stupid game pad..i remember playing tempest 2000 and kazumi ninja which was impossible to play with the controller..didnt it have 2 chips called tom and jerry?
@rockodoodle
I was a young kid in the late 80s/early 90s and my parents spoiled me with Nintendo and Sega stuff, wasn't about to ask them to get me the Lynx but when I would flip through the gaming magazines I bought, I remember a good number of games for that system catching my eye. If I had been older, I probably would've bought that system over GB or GG.
@Northern_munkey Yes mate, a 68000 cpu with two co processors which were indeed named 'tom and jerry'.
It never attracted the support unfortunately, but AvP and Tempest 2000 made it worth owning.
The lynx also was hard to love, but for some reason I really like 'calafornia games' on the lynx. No accounting for taste 😂
@Titntin you are right..no taste 🤣
@ppitchfork game over man game over!

I bought a jaguar from game for £10! Never actually played it though, it wouldn't even switch on without a game in it, which I didn't have.
They were clearing loads of games at like £10-20, which I didn't buy because they seemed expensive at the time. Oh hindsight.
I started gaming on atari so this is amazing.a lot of cool games here.word up son
Tempest 2000 is the ONLY reason I will get this as a physical copy. Big Minter fan, I have the PS1 and Saturn versions but didn’t have Jaguar. If only they included the Neon version too. I really hoped LR or Strictly limited or similar company released TxK on Vita as a physical but with Atari creating a lawsuit or whatever on that all hope was lost. Now no way to preserve that other than to ensure it is never deleted from PS Vita memory.
I’ve still got my Jaguar and Jaguar CD. Loved Blue Lightning which I also had on the Lynx. I spent way too much time on Vid Grid watching the music videos over and over again. Enter Sandman, Spoonman, Sledgehammer, Give it Away, November Rain, Cryin, No More Tears. Classics! Haha.
Also had Highlander. Frustrating, weird and never got anywhere on it.
could they have done some work on the pop-in for the "Where did you learn to fly" game?
Holy Cow! Bounty Bob Strikes Back!! Played the hell outta this on my Atari 5200!!! Jag games too I’m all in day one!!!
