Blizzard has been through the wringer since Overwatch 2 launched last week, which is a shame because it's pretty darn fun when everything is working as intended. Still, it looks like they aren't out of the woods yet, as console players have begun to take umbrage with aim assist being disabled during crossplay with their PC competitors.
Aim assist is a contentious subject at the best of times, but in the case of Overwatch 2, it's particularly galling. In a Reddit thread devoted to the matter, console players complain that they are already at a disadvantage against PC players when they do have aim assist enabled due to the more precise nature of mouse and keyboard controls. With it disabled, though, it can lead to some real frustration.
Considering you can't even play ranked playlists during crossplay, it can't even be argued that disabling the feature was done in the name of competitive balancing. Regardless of whether you are for or against its inclusion, there does seem to be a consistency issue at play here. And, let's be honest, Overwatch 2 is hardly Counterstrike, and a little assistance isn't really the end of the world in a more arcade-style of shooter.
What are your thoughts on the whole situation? Are you for or against its inclusion? Line up your hottest takes in the comments section below.

There's a difference between auto-aim and aim assist... One is a mechanic that aims for you, and the other "assists" you with aiming by making your aim a little stickier.
Which as it happens...doesn't help at all with projectile heroes, and actually makes things worse. Seriously, if you're a Hanzo, Genji, Kiriko, Lucio, or Zenyatta player try playing with it off, and tighten the sensitivity (have vertical sensitivity be little higher as well to make headshots a little easier).
Look, if you're a PC gamer, using mouse and keyboard, which you can aim with your whole arm, with your FOV maxed, settings low and playing at 120fps, and you're complaining about aim-assist you need to go outside and sit in the sun. You're vitamin D deficient (among other things), and it's obviously affecting your reflexes and muscle growth on your aiming arm. You're just bad.
It‘s so simple: For cross-play, separate PC gamers and console gamers. Then you solve both the problems of aiming and cheating.
Why do they call it auto aim it doesn't aim for you lol
Does the game have gyroscope aiming on consoles?
@Constable_What Thanks for that, my apologies, mustn't have had enough coffee this morning. I meant aim assist, not auto aim! Have updated accordingly
You can tell which players are on M&K because of how fluid their motions are. You can turn off cross play but then you get put in very long wait times unless you're doing the main quick play modes.
@Khayl We've all been there! No worries thanks for correcting it.
If you want the game to play itself just turn crossplay off? It's not fair to give console players autoaim against PC players without it.
@ATaco That won't really affect you if the game is popular enough like COD and Overwatch. If the game has an option to turn specifically PC off then I will gladly toggle that on.
@Max_the_German They already are separated. Only when console players party up with a PC player are they added to the console pool.
@chucksneed Aim assist is not auto aim. You still have to aim.
Any PC gamer that complains about aim assist is trash.
It’s not like I still can hit someone with auto-aim, aim-assist or anything. I’m so bad at shooters that when I played The Last of Us Part 2 a few years back, my dad straight up said I suck. It wasn’t like like in a derogatory way. More like: “Oh wow, I didn’t think a human could be so bad at something. But here you are, my ex-son.” Even with every handicap, I’d get demolished in Overwatch.
Console players crossplay should be console vs console.
If console players wants to play with PC players then they should be put into the PC games.
Just in case some console players use a keyboard and mouse and pc players play with controller (which happens)
They should separate it base on controls used not platform.
Either way I’m glad I stopped playing I’ll jump back when the pve stuff is added lol
@Nepp67 problem is that overwatch 2 doesn't seem all that popular. I tried to play a game of mystery heroes with cross play off and I waited around 10 minutes before I gave up trying to find a game. I can only imagine it'll get worse over time.
I find the game kind of unappealing. Don't know why. I like the visuals, but to me something is off.
I think MnKB players are overestimating the power of aim assist. When I went from playing Apex Legends on PS4 to playing it on PC (still using a gamepad), my K/D ratio just went straight down the drain.
MnKB players can tap-strafe in a way that makes them very hard to hit. Aim assist can have a small advantage when very close to your enemy and things get chaotic, but at range the slight adjustment of the reticle is much easier to do with a mouse than the small movements of a thumbstick.
@ATaco That's probably because crossplay, between consoles, is on by default and nobody turns that off. There would be absolutely no reason to. By turning it off you put yourself in a very, very tiny pool of players, and will be matched only with others who have turned it off. This would inevitably make it much harder for you to find a game.
Man this is being made to be such a bigger deal than it actually is.
First off, this is not new, pretty sure it was implemented ever since Overwatch 1 got crossplay.
Second, it only ever comes into effect if you willingly team up with a PC player in your group, in all other cases console players only play with console players and PC with PC.
Lastly, the advantages/disadvantages of aim assist are not as clear cut as people here make it out to be. Go check some footage from Daltoosh in Apex and see how he wrecks on controller vs kb/m players and how much of an advantage aim assist can be if you know how to use it.
I'm not taking a side just to be clear, personally couldn't care less, but just want to point out it's not as easy to make a decision on how to tackle it, some companies will do it one way, and some another. It is an issue, and there never will be a perfect solution.
I was really positive about cross-play from the start, but PC players really have a clear advantage and negatively impact the enjoyment console players have. My solution is a simple one; have two cross play options, console (xbox-ps-switch) and console + PC, even then I think PC players using a gamepad should not face mouse and keyboard players, these wasd-warriors are ruining the fun, this plus strict SBMM and the fear your opponent is cheating is causing players to quit
Why are console players having to play with PC players anyway? It makes no sense. As for aim assist all game's should have the option to turn it off, a few games have this option. I hate aim assist it can get you killed in FPS, you are aiming at someone someone else runs past in front of you the aim sticks to them horrible.
Crossplay should never include pc in a pvp game period or have matchmaking based on hardware used so m/k vs m/k or controller vs controller, we all know the only reason consoles are forced to play with pc players in games like call of duty is because the game would be dead on pc without it like it always was before crossplay.
@Deityjester @banacheck "forced" "having to play". Has anyone in these comments played a single game of Overwatch?? You don't have to play against PC players, crossplay with PC is off by default, and you can't even choose to, on most occasions. Literally the only time you'll end up in a PC lobby, is when you actively choose to, willingly, team up with a PC player in your group. Which is fair play tbh, how is that not getting through to anyone?
@DrClayman I was talking about call of duty and many other games where playing with pc players is forced
@Netbean @Constable_What @BartoxAbrasiveness In an interview with one of the developers for MW2 he admitted that according to their data, in MW 19 the average player is at a disadvantage on mouse. It seems to be the same for MW2 so far as well.
@iphan4tic That's a nice argument how about you back it up with a source?
I envy people that like these type of games because there are so many good titles out there in this genre. I just for the life me have never been very good at them. I have to stick to single player adventure, RPGs and ARPGs, so I'm not getting shot at and cursed out by a 12 year old.
Overwatch 2 not being that popular is probably because they seem to have removed all charm from the original game, turned it into a game which is totally dps dominated so it lacks the inclusivity and tactics of the original … AND made practically zero effort to hide the fact it’s a blatant cash grab to squeeze as much profit out of the IP as they possibly can for a few more years.
Might well not have worked cos it does really feel like they’ve alienated a very considerable proportion of the original game’s loyal player base. I’m definitely mourning the loss of my go-to online game…
@BartoxAbrasiveness I can't speak to the impact in Halo or OW as I barely touched those games. But my experience in MW19 was that the advantage offered by KBM was largely ergonomic, and in some cases even feeling handicapped in comparison. Pistol rounds in gunfight for instance, when full autoing at range (particularly in MW2 beta because of the new 'wobblier' recoil and ridiculous muzzle smoke) and when stunned. Stun grenades have a bigger impact on mouse for some reason (learned about that in MW19 but apparently has been a thing for many games prior).
This is all mostly due to the egregious aim assist. There are even clips of aim assist tracking players through smoke, walls and one particularly outrageous clip from the MW2 beta where a stunned player managed to track, at full speed, a sprinting player and kill them.
It has also been my theory that the games aim assist actually works to mitigate CoD's 'not infamous enough' hitbox drift, where as KBM users get to eat ***** in that department.
