As teased yesterday, EA Motive has now revealed the first look at gameplay from its Dead Space remake, launching for PS5 on 23rd January 2023. A faithful trip down memory lanes for fans of the original, the trailer features memorable locations, weapons, and abilities. The classic Plasma Cutter is on show for much of the footage, and so too is the Stasis skill that allows you to freeze Necromorphs in place.
The trailer also teases Isaac Clark's voice, which wasn't present in the first game on PS3. He wasn't a silent protagonist in Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3, so EA Motive is now bringing his voice into the first title with this remake. There'll also be an overhauled UI with new map controls and an improved locator function.
Another new feature is the Intensity Director, which changes where and when Necromorphs spawn, and adjusts environmental effects like smoke, light, particles, and sound. "Isaac’s heartbeat, breathing, and exertions also adjust based on his stress level to provide players direct feedback into his mental, emotional and physical state," says a press release.
There's no PS4 version of the Dead Space remake, so you'll need to upgrade to Sony's latest machine if you haven't already to experience this one. It's up for pre-order on the PS Store now, costing £69.99/$69.99. What do you think of this trailer? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Damn, it looks great. That ship (Ishimura) definitely looks like a haunted house in space.
Hard to say which one looks better, this or The Callisto Protocol. Looks like I’ll have no choice but to buy and enjoy both!
@Bentleyma maybe the dead space remake. Because Callisto Protocol is a cross gen release (so it will be on PS4 and Xbox One), while the dead space remake is current gen only (PS5, XSX/S)
But both look good
That's really pretty.
The advantage of announcing so late is that they have great looking assets in place to sell you the vision.
I'm in for this one!
@Bentleyma but then again, I am obsessed with space related setting so maybe when I get a Xbox Series X or S then maybe I’ll get both. But I’ll wait and see
Looks good but the original looked great too so not a major improvement, any remake from the PS3 onwards will never be a truly great jump.
This looks great! I liked the game the first time around, probably pick this up
gameplay and movement looks the same as the original to me scene for scene
seems like just a visual remake
I will wait a year and play it on EA play for £4
Hey, it’s looking great - and I’m really happy he’s voiced this time, it added a lot to DS2 for me.
Those zero gravity sections, I am sure they weren’t there in the first game? You just shot around the room and stuck to the walls instead, if I remember correctly?
Can’t wait. But I’m not paying £70, so I will.
January seems like an odd time to release it though.
@kyleforrester87 no I definitely remember the zero g sections in the original.
Looks good, but I'd still prefer a new Dead Space game to a remake.
@GagaOooLaLa hmmm I’m not sure, didn’t it just have this?

Diving from wall to wall?
ive played this game already i will get calisto protocol that new
@kyleforrester87 yeah you’re right. You do have free movement in the zero gravity sections this time around. Just like how it was in the sequel. I believe it was one of the first things the developers said they would change.
@OSTOwnage that’s cool, it was frustrating the first time round. This is way better.
This looks great! I can’t wait to pop in some 3D audio headphones, turn out the lights and revisit the nightmare that is the Ishimura.
Ok this looks incredible.
@kyleforrester87 ah, maybe. Am I thinking of the second one then? I remember flying around a huge ventilation shaft shooting floating crates and picking up/throwing red gas cylinders at enemies.
@GagaOooLaLa yep, that’s number 2
Not watched the trailer yet, but I’m sad to hear (pun intended) that Isaac will talk in this remake. One of the main reasons I massively prefer the first Dead Space game over the second was the fact he was silent in the first game. In the second game he was dropping F-bombs and it was one of the reasons DS2 just felt like a generic action game. I’ll hold my final judgement until I’ve seen the trailer, from reading the rest of the comments it sounds like the rest is top notch.
It annoys me that they're not just remastering the entire trilogy the way they did with Mass Effect.
EA is now saying, this singular remaster is worth $70. Ok. But what happens when they create new fans with this release? Now those fans need to hunt down old hardware to play 2+3. and it'll be a lesser experience for them, given the enhancements of this.
So what is EA to do? Spend additional years remaking 2+3 (and likely selling them separately all over agin)? What about going straight to 4 (which is what old fans clamor for)? But then that will alienate those who didn't bother to track down 2+3... it's such an odd move.
You have a beloved legacy IP. Yet only bring 1 of its entries to modern audiences. Just seems like a missed opportunity.
A) This looks just like the original in terms of gameplay and story.
B) That’s a good thing and just shows how excellent the gameplay etc was in the original.
C) The grafficks (!) look phenomenal.
This will deffo be one to pick up when the price is right. I loved the DS series and it’s basically Resi in space but again that’s a damn good thing. Sign me up for a trip on the Ishimura.
It looks amazing! Though now it's a fierce competition between this and Callsito protocol.
@MFTWrecks original was reasonably stand alone in terms of story from what I remember and committing to remaking the trilogy (which reduced in quality over its three games) was probably too big a risk initially. I’m happy with this approach though of course I’d have preferred the three games done to this quality for the price of one!
Where does drool go in zero gravity?
Looks just like I remember it………… only shinier and crisper! Can’t wait to play it and see what gameplay improvements have been made. Also, I wonder if the trophy list will be relatively the same or completely overhauled?
@KaijuKaiser Very excited for Callisto! I probably want to get this remake at some point too, but only its been heavily discounted. I already played the original 3 or 4 times for the Platinum back in the day.
@MFTWrecks what you should do... release 1,2,3 on ps+ in the run up to releasing 4 (which this game should be)
uugghhh this game is so good... It's kind of like Breath of the Wild with those stasis weapons and stuff to solve puzzles and fight the enemies. I cannot wait to play this again!
Hi there fellow gamers.
Got my very first Platinum trophy with the original game, by playing three times, with the last one being a fun challege of playing on the hardest difficulty only with Isaac´s trusty Plasma Cutter. Can´t wait to play this new version.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming to us all
Wow, that looks fantastic. Lighting this generation will be phenomenal.
Looks like Dead Space, baby!! Bring it on!
@Perturbator I think they’re gauging interest with this release. If people buy this I’d expect more dead space in the future, so even though I think the original holds up I’m still buying this on day one
Won't be playing it because I don't have a ps5 I will be picking up Callisto protocol for PS4 which looks great even heard it's got kimiko from the boys in it & she's my favourite character lol
@MFTWrecks But they don't need to hunt down old hardware. Literally both 2 and 3 are on Steam.
@anoyonmus honestly calisto looked better frame rates were dropping in that trailer for dead space still excited for both none the less.
This looks fantastic. I now want a remake of Dead Space Extraction for PSVR2.
@ppitchfork That's very possible. I do however remember that EA had unlikely expectations for DS3, and that's why there in turn was no DS4, and Visceral was ultimately put to pasture (after the lukewarm BF Hardline and working on a Star Wars game). So I hope they don't have crazy sales prognosis this time around - horror games, apart from RE, are kinda niche after all.
Dead space remake looks amazing.its gonna be good times with dead space remake and the callisto protocol.word up son
@playstation1995 @Bentleyma @anoyonmus Yeah same plan here, will be playing both games on their launch week!
Seriously us space horror fans are being spoiled rotten.
