Need for Speed Unbound, with its vivid urban style, is looking like the best entry in EA’s arcade racing series for some time – and as the window gets wound down on the release’s 2nd December launch, the details are just getting better. Namely, an exclusive IGN interview confirms you can expect 4K, 60 frames-per-second presentation on PS5 – but that’s not all.
Like most major games these days, the title will feature full crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, meaning you can play with your friends regardless of format. And if you’re more of a single player person, there’ll be a full offline campaign, with a narrative that sees you attempting to reclaim a priceless car from an ultimate street race.
One unique element that the title will introduce is a buy-in mechanic, which means you’ll constantly be gambling your in-game currency as you enter races, adding stakes to the outcome. There’ll be free updates post-launch adding more content to complete, and a set of side-quests starring American rapper A$AP Rocky will see you attempting to take control of fictional sandbox Lakeshore.
When you do go online, you’ll be able to cruise around the open world with friends, and setup various events and activities on the fly. While the publisher has stopped short of sharing anything specific, it does sound like it has live service ambitions here, with developer Criterion alluding to launch day being just the beginning of the lifecycle for the game.

Full offline campaign and current gen only. Huge NFS fan, they got my interest!
Full cross play is true next gen gaming.
It really worries me that they've just announced it and are launching it this year. I hope it's good though.
Great news, will be interesting to see the multiplayer trophies if there are any.
@jamison1993 More games should do this to be honest.
Often time they get announced way too early which I personally don't mind but the amount of people that cry about it is crazy.
@RawnDawn I also agree with this approach, as I was in favour of them announcing Wild Hearts in just over 4 months before its release. But announcing a game as big as NFS with only 2 months before release has me slightly concerned.
@jamison1993 Its been in development since 2019. I love this approach, keep quiet then announce when near ready
Trailer is up already:

@jamison1993 Why? That's how it's supposed to be.
I'm interested. Not sure how I feel about the visuals or style but it looks way better than that trash heat.
A offline singleplayer campaing is big news how sad.
Great news but I kind of feel like this should be the norm at this point in the generation.
Leaving the PS4 behind clearly has some benefits.
I guess I'm just not urban enough, but this is unequivocally not for me. But if you're into it, maybe it'll be your NFS the way Hot Pursuit 2 was mine.
Evo 30 I'm all in
I like sound of this and it'll be great to have another arcade type racer,I don't have any expectations on whether it'll be brilliant or not but hearing about its release date only couple months before its launched is interesting ,I personally don't mind that ,it makes a refreshing change ,obviously I like many others hope it's very very good ,and only for new gen consoles and pc is great ,sure it'll look fantastic in 4k at 60fps with that art style ,I personally love driving/racing games ,looking forward to seeing what it's like on the 2nd Dec and reviews before
Quite a lot of YouTubers talking about car lists and the map now. Really looking forward to it.
@Anke Sammy put it in a separate news article earlier.

@TrickyDicky99
I hope that Devs will finally introduce a console only cross-play option so PS players (me) could play with Xbox players but exclude PC with all the modders and cheaters PC platform is infested with.
@SoulChimera ahh how on earth did I miss that article!? Thanks for posting it.
Thank the lord for crossplay.
I dont know why some say its divisive, it looks awesome to me
Remember buying NFS on 3DO back in 1994 and loving it! How the series has changed. Was worth paying £450 for 3DO
@TrickyDicky99 Agreed. It's not the mouse and keyboard stuff that is a problem its the unreal cheating going on in most PC games. Its crazy at this point really. I don't get how anyone plays Warzone, you have huge streamers who basically brag about cheating.
@Luigia Honestly I liked both Criterion entries. Hot Pursuit 2009 and Most Wanted were great games. Payback and a couple others were bad but I think people remember the early ones a bit too fondly. Not saying they were bad but they had their issues.
@jamison1993 it was announced about 18 months ago
Full crossplay & offline campaign. That’s a step in the right the direction. Only concerns is that they just announced the game and it’s coming out Dec 2nd to me that’s a lil sussy wussy if you ask me, such a short window. It’s EA so I’ll be pessimistic
s-still…not…convinced!!!
Like the look of this. The music is a definite no for me. Hope this reviews well. 👍👍
This looks cool but damn I wish they would do NFS Rivals 2.. or something similar. That game was wild.
Just watched the trailer and I'd like to retract my opinion of no thankyou. To hmmm maybe. The car detail seems very good, im not liking the cell shaded characters or the anime graffiti coming off the cars but the trailer looked like alot of fun and the cars seem to be inline more with underground than other entries. It may of peaked my interest but I will wait and see.
It be nice if I could switch off the anime stuff.
@Coltaine22 Original NFS was amazing but playing it now is a car crash
@jamison1993 @BuGGy2DaB genuinely curious... why is a late reveal such a big issue?
@Bez87 I watched the trailer, and I couldn't tell if the "anime stuff" was part of actual gameplay or not. I want a gameplay video, to see what's really IN THE GAME, and not just the marketing mumbo jumbo in the trailer.
@stvevan because the last game announced this close to release was GTA the trilogy and hardly shown gameplay too. Eas shown themselves to be just as money hungry as rockstar so it wouldnt surprise me to see this is just a cash grab too.
@JSnow2 Full offline campaign was confirmed? Sweet, great to hear!
@Anke I quite often miss or can't find articles again because of the ads on the site.
@TrickyDicky99 Also, competing with people playing on PC at 120 FPS or higher will give console players an inherent disadvantage.
@RobN agreed, I also couldn't tell whether it was part of gameplay or just thats the theme of the game away from racing.
