While developer Naughty Dog fought to bring Ellie to the front of The Last of Us’ original boxart, the promotional poster for HBO’s television adaptation has swapped their positions. Here we see Pedro Pascal’s Joel take the limelight, as he looks back at the camera with a furrowed brow. Bella Ramsey’s Ellie stands just behind him, in her distinctive hoodie and coat combo, with a nonplussed look.
The slogan, below the title, states: “When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light.” We wonder which Kingdom Hearts game the marketing team stole that from? Anyway, at the top there’s a reference to writers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the latter of whom created the entire franchise, of course.
In the background, we see one of the iconic skylines from the game, with dilapidated skyscrapers and tumbling buildings. It’s all very miserable and moody, but that’s in-keeping with the spirit of the story, we suppose. Remember, the show will premiere on 15th January, and we can’t wait to kick back and watch!

What are they looking at and why do they look so serious?
@Hindenburg instead of smiles?
"Look, we don't want to buy 3 years of PS Plus Premium at 25% off. Now please stop following us and leave us alone!"
@Hindenburg The grim universe they are in...
Played Left Behind 1 Saturday night a couple of weeks ago, bought 2 yesterday, on sale for $9.99 if anyone besides me is 2 1/2 years behind on games they want to play. 😝
@freddquadros Okay, but that doesn't answer the first question
@Hindenburg they looking at some stinky clickers
@Hindenburg It's the answer to both _
The line, “When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light," comes directly from the first game. It's the Fireflies' slogan.
@uptownsoul
Yes the 15th at 9pm
I want to see this series. But at the same time I don't want to see it. As a man, a father, this is one of those few stories that really tug on the heartstrings.
Living through the games was intense. Not sure if I'm ready to do it a second time.
@ThaBEN
But if you have already played through the game and experienced the whole story you will already know exactly what you are getting yourself into right?
@PegasusActual93
And that's exactly what I'm afraid of.
The storytelling in this game is just as beautiful as it is heart wrenching.
Just because I know what is coming doesn't necessarily mean it is a less intense experience 😅
I'll just be streaming it on HBO Max weekly. Thanks for sharing the cover art!
@jimmyn28, your spot on, you would think, anyone tasked with this story, would have played the games and know the lore.
Lol, the slogan isn't stolen from any Kingdom Hearts game (Kingdom Hearts - really?). It's directly from the game. It's what the Firefly's say.
"We wonder which Kingdom Hearts game the marketing team stole that from?"
Are you stupid or something 😂
I’m not sure if your article was feigning ignorance or just a joke that didn’t land, but the “look for the light” Firefly slogan is one of the most recognized quotes from The Last of Us.
@Hindenburg Because they really are the last of us.
