Following its Nintendo Switch and PC release just weeks ago, Devolver Digital has announced Return to Monkey Island will launch for PS5 on 8th November 2022. A new trailer can be viewed above, but there is no mention of a PS4 version. The game costs £22.49/$24.99 on Nintendo Switch, so expect a similar price on the PS Store.
The new adventure title released to widespread praise back at the end of September, garnering a Metacritic rating of 86 for the PC version. Our sister site Nintendo Life handed it a 9/10 and concluded: "Delighting as you tremor, Return [to Monkey Island] presents to your transfixed gaze a phenomenal point-and-click adventure, bubbling with passion and fun. All the way through, you will hope, achingly, that the big reveal is coming – and then…"
Taking place after Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, you could get up to speed with the story via PS Plus Premium, as the PS3 Special Edition is available for streaming. Have you been waiting for Return to Monkey Island to make its way to PS5? Point and click in the comments below.

I wanna be a pirate!
Owning a PS5 finally paid off!
Hell yeah. Glad I waited. Also not like anything is coming out that week that's important for playstation fans.
Hooray! Looking forward to picking this up at some point.
On gamepass but not PSplus? Xbox it is then.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 🥳🥳🥳
That is all. Sorry Kratos. You will genuinely have to wait
It’s good! Like, really good.
I really want to play this but I also want a refresher of the first two so I'll probably wait until they're inevitably released on PS4/5. I'm not streaming them.
I'm playing this at the moment, it's great!
I'm a long time fan of Monkey Island and this is probably one of the best entries.
So it's on the wheezing Switch but not the PS4? What gives?
Beat this last week on Switch, was a great time and a really nice ‘side-game’ to accompany something meatier…. Might serve as a suitable side dish for anyone wanting some brief reprieve from GoW!
My playthrough was around 10hrs - and the game never felt like it was outstaying it’s welcome
Fans of the series will love this, and thankfully most of the puzzles are fairly logical. My aim was to make it through the whole experience without using the in-game hint system… but sadly I caved on the very final puzzle!
Would recommend to fans of the series and genre, but also to anyone wanting to dip their toes into the point-and-click world
It's a great game, but the genre in general doesn't lend itself all that well to consoles if you ask me.
For fans of the genre, Syberia The World Before also releases on PS5 this month.
@johncalmc I streamed the first one on PS Now and then it softlocked making it impossible to continue. The main issue with streaming is that PS3 ports were often unforgivably broken.
@nessisonett Odd...no streaming in my neck of the woods, but bought both MI Special Edition ps3 games back in the day & completed them both, (swapping between old school & newer style graphics),just fine!🤔
As for the lack of a ps4 version, of RTMI seems rather bizarre given the Switch version & that there'd still be a decent ps4 audience to sell to.😕
@nessisonett Yeah, I think I bought the PS3 version back in the day. Shame Sony is hopeless and I can't just play them without having to go through the ordeal of hooking my PS3 up again. Gotta think ports must be coming.
Omigosh omigosh omigosh omigosh!
Awesome.
Almost bought this on Switch several times the last few days, so glad I held out. Will be getting this for sure!
I played point-and-click games back when they were a serious technical leap from typing "look door," and you were impressed if there were more colors on the screen than you could count on your fingers and toes. The King's Quest PS4 series from a few years ago was a fix for me.
I skipped the Monkey Island series, for some reason, so the nostalgia is not strong with this one. I'll probably pass.
I could not wait for a PS version so bought it the day it came out for Nintendo Switch. Was a brilliant nostalgia trip. My favourite franchise ever. I don’t think there is a series I’ve played as much as Monkey Island.
This is one where i will double dip if a physical version comes out later.
The only other series which comes close to my love for Monkey island is Final Fantasy.
Genuinely made my day this
Weird that there’s no PS4 version but definitely getting this!
It’ll be a 7 or 8 out of 10, likely an 8. There, I saved y’all 10-20 hours of gameplay.😋
Seriously, though, I’m terrible and point and click games in general, but I played through the Monkey Island games with a helper guide because they’re just so damn good. The writing is always excellent with literal laugh out loud moments.
Also, it’s okay that there’s no PS4 version. It’s been long enough for PS4 owners to find a PS5, and there aren’t enough PS5-only games out there yet, anyway. Monkey Island can be one of ‘em.
Thats nice but i prefer my point and click games on my PC. Btw it will be released in gamepass but not PS Plus sniff
What a nice surprise. Can’t wait.
i have this on steam played for 10 mins its in my steam backlog one of my fave game franchises ive the whole lot on Steam got this at release may aswell have to lot lol
I beat it on Switch. Great fun! And my first foray into the franchise. I admit I used the hints quite a bit though.
@The_Moose Owning gamepas finally paid off! =)
when i saw the gamepass text. backstabbing sony. if they are not getting it on ps plus.
@kenshin4ever Microsoft paying developers to not put games on ps plus 😡 (I'm joking lol)
Great news! Now we just need a remastered collection of the older games.
I need this to be available on PS4! Please!!!
