While Sonic Frontiers is largely a step in the right direction for the franchise, the game isn't without its flaws. Many players are running into trouble with some remaining bugs causing crashes and other issues. Thankfully, Sonic Team has said it's listening to feedback and will be updating the game for the foreseeable. Today, a new patch is out with a handful of improvements.
Update 1.10 is ready to roll on PS5 and PS4, and it's mostly targeting those aforementioned bugs. Game crashes, audio issues, and performance improvements are the order of the day, but the patch notes also mention UI improvements and gameplay optimisations. We don't know what those are, exactly, but it's encouraging that these updates are aiming to improve the game as well as fix bugs.
Here are the patch notes as outlined on the PS4 version:
- Fixed random crashing bugs.
- Addressed audio related issues.
- Added UI improvements.
- Added gameplay optimizations.
- Added stability and performance improvements.
- Other minor fixes.
In our experience, there's been some jank here and there, but we've not had any major trouble with bugs. Still, it's always nice to know a game is getting better. Looking forward to playing this at some point but will wait for a few more patches before pulling the trigger.
Only on the 3rd zone but bar the pop in I've found it quite enjoyable, although the random change to 2d side scrolling on parts of the 3rd zone I found quite jarring. Not been any glaring issues I've seen that have impacted my gameplay
I got the platinum and didn't have any crashes or encounter any bugs. My biggest gripe is the levelling up of rings and speed one at a time and the 3rd island isn't particularly good. Other than that I had a great time
I picked up the Switch version for my kiddo for Christmas. I expected a few updates by the time he opens it.
Only real technical issue I can think of that I had is the obvious pop-in. Other than that though, it ran pretty flawlessly for me.
Enjoying this game a lot. As others have said, the only real issue I have is with the pop in. Not sure patches can ever rectify that though...?
Largely step in the right direction...
I played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle again yesterday on Gamecube and I so much enjoyed the gameplay.
Pop in is the worst offender. You also have to adjust Sonic's speed in the menu. Up that top speed to 74 at least and then it feels like a Sonic game.
@Mauzuri the soundtrack was outstanding. Cyberspace with the electronic music, the bosses with the metalcore, and the open world chilll orchestra music. I just think you donโt like those genres
Did they fix pop in issues ๐ I managed to finish the games with the issues tho ๐
@AstraeaV The default is 100 is it not?
@Orpheus79V It was not. Made it feel so sluggish.
Buying this today๐
It has been pretty stable in my experience. Currently on Island 3. If they build up on these they can really give us the perfect modern Sonic title.
@xeofate @blockfight Same plan here. Hopefully Frontiers will be $20 New by June or July 2023.
My experience was pretty smooth (on PS5) .. apart from pop up here and there. Thoroughly enjoyable game and a great 3D Sonic experience..Whats not to love sunshine?
I've only just beaten the first island thanks to the frame-pacing issues, it would be nice if this update fixed that
