Alongside a 14th December release date, CD Projekt Red did actually give us a brief insight into what The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition will include. According to the game's official press summary, the enhanced PS5 re-release will sport all of the bells and whistles that you'd expect, while also throwing in some potential surprises.
The PS5 edition will feature "dozens of visual, performance, and technical enhancements over the original". This includes things like "ray tracing support" and "faster load times" — but this is where things get interesting.
There's mention of "a variety of mods integrated into the experience". Now, The Witcher 3 has always had a healthy modding community on PC, and people have added all kinds of stuff to the game over the years. It sounds like some mods may have been cherrypicked and officially added to the adventure. However, there's no indication of how extensive this mod integration will end up being, so we'd recommend tempering your expectations — at least for now.
And lastly, the press release reiterates that Complete Edition will come with "new additional content inspired by The Witcher series from Netflix". We imagine that this includes things like new armour sets, or maybe even fresh cosmetics for Geralt.
In any case, CDPR will be showing a lot of this stuff off through a livestream next week. We don't have a precise date and time for that yet, but we should know soon enough.
How does all of this sound to you? What kind of visual leap are you expecting? What do you think the mod integration is? Feel free to speculate like crazy in the comments section below.

But what's it gonna be called on the physical PS5 box though?
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition 4K
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition Directors Cut
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition New Edition
I might actually be willing to play thru again if all the character models looked like their NF counterparts w/ similar voices. Don't CDPR would pay for that, but it might make it feel like I was playing the show, which would be different enough from my previous play thru.
I loved the game but fear it’s going to feel pretty dated to play, particularly the combat which I assume they won’t have done much with.
As said above, it’s a little old to just have a few bells and whistles. This needed a complete remake for PS5 playability.
Stupidly excited for this. Been holding off on a other play through since this was announced.
Will get Sonic Frontiers finished then sink an ungodly amount of time into this.
I hope two of those mods are "fast travel at any time" and "fast pick up loot". Those two make the game even more enjoyable, alongside "unlimited inventory" but I'm not sure if they include that on lol, maybe as an option
I wonder if they’ll give us a Henry Cavill character model . . . then replace it with a Liam Hemsworth model in a future patch.
@Thrillho if there is more fluidity and less input lag on the controls it is already a huge improvement over the „old“ version.
Interested to see how they implemented ray tracing. Wondering if a game like this that doesn’t have a lot of shiny surfaces could handle RT at 60fps if they use FSR2.1. It makes sense that it wouldn’t work for Cyberpunk since everything in that game is reflective, but this might be a different situation. Not getting my hopes up and not really bothered by it either way, just that it would be cool. I’ll be playing this either way
Didn't they announce AGES ago, to some backlash, that this would include fan-made mods? Or am I mixing it up with Skyrim... lol
@Would_you_kindly I TOLD YOU I TOLD YOU. MORE CONTENT YEEEEEEES
@theMEGAniggle I doubt it's a new area or new quests or anything big probably just some cosmetics
@themightyant I think you're thinking of the Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which bundles in 'paid mods' from the Creation Club for an additional cost.
@Would_you_kindly yeah probably nothing big
I was looking for another excuse to replay this, so here it is.
I have a lot on my plate coming up, I just have to actually put in the time to play these games...
My main issue with The Witcher 3 was the combat. I bought the Complete Edition with the cool vampire expansion but I could never muster up the enthusiasm to actually reach any of it.
I'll definitely give it another go one day with this update
I don’t think it needs a remake to be ‘playable’ it has better combat than Skyrim ever had and people are still paying 50 bucks for that one 11 years later. Hope they paid the folks well for the mods they’re using.
@Shstrick It'll be RT shadows only I suspect. Just like in Cyberpunk.
Complete waste of time to half the framerate for just RT shadows.
Who just drinks with it all running down your hand and arm like that? Looks cool in the picture I guess but he’s in pretty nice clothes and I’m sure there are no washing machines in The Shire or wherever the hell this game is set.
Curious if RT will work with 60 fps or only in a 30 fps mode.
Looking forward to next week.
And its a free upgrade aswell good on cdpr definetly they could of asked for £10 -15 atleast sounds like some decent upgrades
@Slippship most probs will dude u prob have to download ps5 version and use disc as an unlock key like alot of game upgrades
Neat-o, can't wait to see what's new
YES!!!!! A 3rd playthrough is required.
My save file better export OK, I've got one more Gwent card to get in the Gwent Tournament. Don't really want to hunt for all of them on a new playthrough.
@Slippship each to there own dude im the same i just get whats cheaper 🤣 but they should make it easier for people with some games
@ShogunRok Thought I must be going mad but a quick google suggests this was reported as a possibility over a year and a half ago.
https://www.eurogamer.net/the-witcher-3s-next-gen-version-might-use-fan-made-mods
Might be going mad anyway
Unless the whole skill system is changed - which I doubt - there just isn't a way to make this interesting to me -.-'
The fighting was just too monotonous for me and the "per cent" upgrades didn't help.
My second playthrough has been paused a few months now in anticipation of this release. Looking forward to jumping back in!
@themightyant Ah yeah, they did mention mods ages ago — but the silence since had everyone questioning whether it was just some weird comment that got taken out of context.
Be really interesting to see how mods are actually implemented.
ShogunRok wrote:
Absolutely, and if/how the mod creators have been compensated, though they will likely be under NDA if so.
@kyleforrester87 The Shire 😄 Love it.
@themightyant In the US at least, but I believe also under the international copyright treaty, copyright means that derivative works are owned by the original copyright holder, not the creator of the derivative. While it hasn't been fully tested in court for mods, in practice this probably means that mods are owned by the original game publisher and NOT by the mod author.
You want to own your own work, create your own work. You piggyback on someone else's work (fan fiction, mods, etc), and you may not own it.
I will cream on my spoon when this comes out!
@RobN Perhaps legally, but surely that wouldn't fly without an awful lot of stink. Would be a PR disaster, the last thing they need.
Can't believe CDPR would sell their game with mods without some sort of agreement, likely financial, with the mod creators.
@ApostateMage you know, Dumbledore and that lot
@rjejr only problem with a Netflix mod would be that all the scenes with Eskel would instead just be various witchers taking to their imaginary dead friend
Really hoping that save data from the PS4 version transfers over to the PS5. Purposely held off playing the DLCs (which are massive) in order to play them in this update when it was first announced 18 months ago.
I'm really hoping for one thing - cross save.
I don't care mods or other things. What I really need is cross save, because I have about 60 hours on Switch and, let's say, Switch edition on TV looks quite bad, so I appreciate if they implement cross saving as on Switch.
@danlk1ng Picky picky. I just want Cavill, Chalotra, Allan and Batey skins. I'm a simple man.😁
@itsfoz you do realise this is a free patch and not a re-release or a remaster?
It has taken a long time so I imagine the game has had a complete overhaul nearly. Totally different lighting (similar to what was shown originally at E3?), 4k textures, better hair, facial, better water. Just throwing user mods in and testing doesn't take this long normally. A far as RT is concerned I am always sceptical when game companies say the game has RT, since there are different types of amount of RT. Only shadows or also RT lighting? I didn't really see much difference on PS5 with RT enabled on Cyberpunk unless I paused the game and checked.
@lindos Everything announced says it is NOT a patch - it's a new, PS5-native game that won't be playable on a PS4 (and XBox Series game that won't be playable on XBox One).
Now, that doesn't mean it's a full remaster - it may be 99% the same code with some spit and polish, closer to a patch than a remaster. We'll see when it's released.
@rjejr I'm just still sore about it lol - there's a perfectly good Witcher death in the books (I think so anyway, been a while since I read them), they didn't need to do that to Eskel..
Would be amazing if they bring in some kind of cross platform save support, like the switch version has (I sold my switch version pretty much as soon as I secured a ps5 - the fact that it even works is a miracle, but it's by far the worst and most expensive way to play the game) as I have it on both PC and PS4, but I really can't be bothered to play the game that many times - it's great but so long...
@itsfoz No it doesn't, the game still plays well enough so all it needs is some visual upgrades and 60fps what this release will bring. The fact you want a remake of a PS4 game is laughable.
There is nothing wrong with the combat in the witcher 3. Skyrim has really basic combat compared to the witcher 3 and the graphics in skyrim are rougher than a builders elbow but that game is universally praised every time its re-ported because it is pretty much the same game everytime bethesda want to squeeze an extra £15 out of everybody so this edition of the witcher "free" is a much welcomed, improved version..i cant believe people sometimes 🤣
@rjejr I imagine it'll just have the exact same name, to make it all the more confusing!
Agree with @northern_munkey Never understood why people complained about the combat. Certainly fine enough not to detract from the story telling and the epic quests. Cannot wait to play the souped up PS5 version.
Raytrace support is nice, but I'd rather have raster-4K-60. No word on the latter.
Day 648849494. Ps stars still didn't show me the God of War preorder collectible and or give me points.
Surprise! It's actually going to be a full remaster on UE5 🐺🦄🕊️
🙃🙃🙃
This has taken so long the inclusion of Netflix DLC went from being a cool bonus to being a bit unfortunate but still better than nothing.
@danlk1ng I've only played TW3, once like a normal person, not 7x like Shogun, and watched the NF series, skipped the books and the 1st two games so that's my sole knowledge base.🤷
@KidBoruto The exact same name? But where's the fun in that?😂
Which reminds me, do we know if GTAV is getting a new name on PS5? Something like "GTAV: The PS5 Update You're Paying $70 For".🤷
@rjejr "getting" a new name? GTAV is already out on PS5 lol, and it was very minimally priced at launch (think it was something daft like £8 or so), although that was a special promotion so it's probably more expensive than that generally. Unless you're waiting for a disc edition of course (I mean, that might already be out too, I'm not sure)
@rjejr GTAV's PS5 version has been available both digitally and physically since March 31st, how did you not know this?
@danlk1ng Disc version released at the same time as digital on March 31st.
Its all about replayability and witcher 3 had that in droves. A new spit shine might revitalise interest in the title. The fact its a patch for free for current gen is kind of awesome dont you think?? Most companies would be like "here a upgrade to current gen for $10 more" (cough sony cough).
For the people wanting a remake.. you are the problem with gaming, whats the point in creating brand new experiences when your willing to spend another $70 on a visual upgrade that may even play worse.
People vote with your wallet dont buy remakes unless they are games from 15 years ago.
@danlk1ng i dont think you get sarcasm.
@KidBoruto didnt you know sarcasm.
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 I understand sarcasm perfectly well - if GTA V wasn't already out yet, it would be a perfectly good sarcastic comment. In fact it's still a perfectly good sarcastic comment despite the fact that GTA V is already out on PS5, because the joke appears to be about ridiculous naming conventions for new releases of games, not "whether GTA V is out yet". I think you don't get sarcasm, you just think you do
Forgot all about this (it's been a few years since I played TW3) but I think what we all want to know is, can Geralt jump off a 4 foot wall without dying in the PS5 version?
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 what price increase? I didn't defend anything, I just stated a fact that when it released, GTA V for PS5 was actually very cheap, which frankly amazed everyone at the time because we thought they were going to pull the same stunt they did with the remastered PS2 games. I wasn't "defending price increases", I was just stating what actually happened because it didn't seem to me that @rjejr was aware that the game had actually launched yet. And as for "went in depth with the game naming" - when did I do that?? I didn't even mention the game naming lol. I mentioned the name of the game "GTA V", that's about it.
It seems to me that not only are you bad at judging whether people understand sarcasm or not, you're just generally bad at reading people's comments. As such I'm not exactly clamouring for you to consider me credible - it's a bit of a low bar
@danlk1ng Well whadaya know, out on disc in April, and only $40 at that. On sale now for $20 BTW. Thanks. 👍 (oh, and sorry about whatever that was above, seems like my fault 🤷♂️)

@KidBoruto "how did you not know this?"
I plan on going to my grave as the last gamer who never played GTA V. Easier to do if I don't know it's out. 😂
Removed - trolling/baiting
@rjejr and yeah, it actually released at £8.75/$9.99 - which like I said, surprised everyone who was expecting a full priced PS5 version. Even I caved and bought it lol, despite fully not intending to before the launch price was revealed
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/03/gta-5-ps5-price-is-just-usd10-until-14th-june
obviously this only applies to the digital version, not the disc release
@danlk1ng I read that article, and skimmed over the 212 comments looking for mine but I guessed I missed it 🤷♂️ Thanks for link BTW. 👍 I have to admit after reading the original article and 2 updates I'm still not sure what all was going on there between updates, then and now. It was alot.
But the most important thing, I now know it's out. I may have to cave and play it some day after all that, PSVR3 on PS6 maybe? 😁
Great for people who have never played it but I've played it on at least two different systems already. Don't know how many people out there haven't. Bring on the next Witcher. I'm burned out on remakes, ports, and retrogrades. Make that PS5 scream for mercy!!

@rjejr I haven't played GTA V yet either, despite owning it at least 3 times now.
@KidBoruto same own it on ps4 and xbox but never really played too finish. Was more busy playing the online part of it.
@tselliot i dont know some remakes or remasters are pretty good, some games need a major haul to bring them too younger audiences. I bet some people dont know what witcher 3 is but a next/current gen upgrade is something im interested in. But then the other side is doing the last of us part 1 which i feel really added nothing but still priced as a full fledged release. So some are worth it and then there are some that dont. Honestly 2023 is going to be quite amazing, can't wait.
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 I have zero interest in GTA Online, only own GTA 5 for the single player story campaign.
(I tend to avoid multiplayer games in favor of offline single player with rich in depth stories)
@KidBoruto OK you win. 😄
