Final Fantasy 16 looks good – in fact, it looks real good. Speaking during a livestream, in the aftermath of the title’s recent release date trailer, producer Naoki Yoshida hinted that the console exclusive is really flexing the new-gen system’s power. He said, as translated by Genki on Twitter: “[The latest trailer is] all real-time rendering! [There’s] no loading! It’s become a game that is like, ‘Look at the power of the PS5!’”
The game’s due to launch on 22nd June, 2023, so assuming there are no delays, it’s little more than six months away. We have to agree with Yoshida that it’s one of the better looking PS5 titles on the horizon, although titles like Demon’s Souls and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart have already demonstrated just what Sony’s new-gen system is capable of. Hopefully, as cross-gen projects slowly fade away, we’ll begin to see the hardware exploited more.

I have already brought the collectors edition. Looks really good I've always wanted an adult Final Fantasy with a darker medieval theme.
Glad that PS4 is finally being left in the past should have happened earlier.
Oh please!! This will release on PS4 as Sony don’t believe in generations. PS4 is for life!
@Cyberpsycho I don’t believe it’s PS5 until release, as Sony are addicted to PS4 cash cow
@Cyberpsycho I got the CE ordered as well. Very excited to see where the game goes considering it has a more mature story. And I feel this will really show us what next gen can do, which is what I've been waiting for. Much as I love the PS4 it will be 10 next year and with PS5 stock finally starting to improve, 2023 is the best time to retire it. Let's see what the PS5 is capable of without being held back by PS4
Really looking forward to this one. Definitely one of my 'must buys' next year. Like FF12 by way of Game of thrones. And it really is a looker (at least going by trailers)
It's finally happening for more PS5 only games, thank god.
@Luigia Yoshi-P mentioned early on they were considering a PS4 version for this game, which is why it didn't say PS5 exclusive in the first trailer and just PlayStation exclusive. But they decided not to because they wanted to be able to provide a fast paced experience between gameplay and story with no loading times which is for the best
Square-Enix has historically been pretty good at showing off the capabilites of new hardware. While it was quickly eclipsed technically by subsequent games in the series, FF7 did more than almost any other game (other than maybe MGS1) to showcase the dramatic new experiences you could have on the PS1 compared to older systems, or even cartridge-based contemporaries like the N64.
@Luigia Most new games don't even seem to sell half as well on PS4 as PS5. Stuff like HFW and GoWR are also on PS4 because they started life as PS4 projects, and there's no reason to arbitrarily axe development of the last-gen versions once you're halfway through the development cycle anyway.
Uh huh. Forspoken was supposed to do this too, and be the 'best looking open-world game ever made'.

Nothing shows off a new generation like a new mainline FF game. Very excited!
Great news! We'll be able to see what the PS5 is capable of!
2 years into the generation. 🤔
I don’t care what it looks like as long as it has engaging game play, interesting environments and doesn’t run like a PowerPoint presentation
I've really enjoyed my time with the PS4 these past 8 or 9 years and in my mind will go down as one of the greatest consoles ever, mostly due to its high quality 1st party output every year. But in 2023 its genuinely long overdue to move on instead of PS5 games being held back by 2013 technologies. This is the year more devs should be having the balls to move away from last gen especially in the triple AAA space. November 2023 PS4 will be 10 years old let it go its been a fun ride
@Luigia Sony aren’t making it…
@Sam_ATLUS yea, yet the game will hit PC and undoubtedly not require NVME drives.
Show the power of the PS5 and of low budget gaming PCs!
@Luigia Jim Ryan said back in May that PS4 is being transitioned into a FTP machine. Not that it affects 3rd parties (it's Square Enix who chooses whether FFXVI eventually comes to PS4 or not) but it's safe to say that on the 1st party front, games like Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine won't come to PS4 meanwhile games like Factions 2 will.
@Beerheadgamer82 accountants rule and PS4 is a cash cow Sony don’t want to let go of. PS4 seems to be for life and I just want games using power of PS5 as that’s why I bought one day one
@Ralizah really valid points and thanks for responding 👍🏼
Cool.final fantasy games always have nice graphics.word up son
I don't believe what they say considering they've Final Fantasy 7 remake background issues.
Not a big FF fam but i'm actually really excited by this one as it looks fantastic.
@Luigia The PS5 has already seen four 1st party PS5 only games (ignoring PC ports) though, also Horizon is getting a PS5 only expansion due to it having an machine impossible to have on PS4.
No it won't it's also in development for lower spec pcs & if it goes to Xbox a year or so later it will have to run well on the series S lol
@Tharsman exactly lol people really don't seem to remember that
So we're finally getting to see what the PS5 is capable of, two and a half YEARS after launch?
And I'm sorry but Demon’s Souls is a shiny PS3 remaster and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart looks like a PS4 game (and could've run on the old platform).
Don't get me wrong - the PS5 needs to have more 'exclusive' titles and it could be that 2023 is the year it gets the support it needs. Might even be the year to pick one up (with a fork lift truck!)
To me the best looking PS5 game remains Forbidden West. A true visual gem. Not even Ragnarok had the degree of details and realism the former provides.
@WallyWest Considering next year is full of PS5 only games, as well as future games like Rise of the Ronin, Wolverine, FF7 Rebirth and Death Stranding 2, as well as Horizon Burning Shores DLC being PS5 only I think it's safe to say Sony is going to begin fully putting their attention on next gen now. Only games I'm expecting to be cross gen now are live service games which make sense when you want to reach as many people as possible
@sanderson72 a shiny ps3 remaster how dare you 😂 and there’s zero chance of ps4 running rift apart at 60 fps get outta town! 😭
@Tharsman Lol when the PC port of Final Fantasy 16 arrives I can guarantee that it will be Steam Deck verified and it will work in mechanical drives. Then we will wonder why there is no PS4 version, even compromised.
I wouldn't mind Horizon Forbidden West being PS5 only but locking the dlc (!) in PS5 is ridiculous.
In any case I am a huge Final Fantasy fan!! 16 and 7 rebirth are my most anticipated games!!!!
Well we're over 2 years in new generation, it was meant to happen. Its a game that i'm really tempted to buy on launch (this and KOTORemake)
@WallyWest I’ve just bought Returnal for £19.99 from Argos and keen to sample a true next Gen PS5 game
Really it’s going to showcase the power of the ps5 …. What’s that then 4k 30fps 🤦♂️ I feel robbed by next gen consoles maaaaaaan I should have got a pc! It’s such a joke performance mode or quality
We are getting spoiled with FF this year if Rebirth comes out as well. FFXVI looks like it could be epic. I did really enjoy FFXV but the story wasn’t great. I cannot wait to see how FFXVI performs. Comes out 2 days before my birthday so I’ll find someone to buy me that for my present 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
@Theylie Agreed. Let's team up and make a better console and sell it. You fund all the cash and I'll do all of the R&D. Probably going to have to fly overseas a lot, though. So, I'm going to need a healthy travel budget, and I ain't riding coach. Contact me when you're ready to get started!
@Mikey856 PS4 could've run it at 30fps (perhaps more on Pro) and Sony could've doubled their sales but that's marketing for the PS5 for you! At least the 'SSD makes it possible' was thoroughly debunked.
@belmont locking DLC behind a platform smells of marketing too, as the engine for the PS4/Pro and PS5 will be the same - either that or there's some inefficient coding going on that the extra horsepower of the PS5 can overcome?
@sanderson72 I find it hilarious you’re even trying to prove a point about this. Demons souls ps5 is light years ahead of anything on ps4/pro man. The ps4 would not run rift apart at 30 and I doubt pro would either. Unless the res was on the floor. The RT is also exceptional in rift apart. Another thing last gen has no chance of. And in terms of dlc I assume you mean hfw? Which apparently is to do with the fact that the power required to realise the dream of having a moving metal devil in-game is so demanding that last gen simply can’t do it justice.
@Korgon June 2023 can't get here soon enough! FF16 is the only game I'll be playing in June and July.
