Photo mode has been added to God of War Ragnarok, just under a month after the game's PS5 and PS4 release. The title's latest update is available to download now, and the photo mode itself appears to be everything that we've come to expect from a PlayStation studio.
A full suite of editing tools are now yours to play around with, as you try to snap some epic shots. Given how good the game looks, we're expecting to see some super impressive screens doing the rounds on social media very, very soon.
But this latest update doesn't stop there. The official patch notes (which we've included below) outline a boatload of smaller bug fixes. The blockbuster is already so polished that we're honestly shocked to see so many bullet points.

Nice. It's wild how good it looks. The transition from cut scene to gameplay is so smooth.
Had no issues during my play through, will have to play again to use the photo mode. Stunning game!
waits for new game+
Just got the platinum and deleted the game last night 😅. Saw a few bugs where Kratos was holding an invisible weapon in the menu and a few times where button prompts for traversal elements would disappear and I had to close and reopen the game to fix it. Other than that, I had no major issues and not a single crash. Pretty solid quality control from start to finish. As a QA engineer myself, stuff like this is awesome to see
Does it make it fun to play?
Glad me only just started then only at end of first realm. But doesn’t sound like it stopped some getting platinum.
Yes! I've been waiting for Photo Mode in this game.
Games shouldn’t be released in this state. Years ago games were properly tested and released in a good play state. Games released on 3.5 disks had no updates , the only ones being data disks released. These days update after update , really gets on your nerves.
"PhotoMode is now in the game! Access photo mode by pressing the Square Button from the options menu."
No quick option for photo mode??
Games that force me to press start and then choose photo mode are not only annoying, but they completely ruin the timing for getting great action shots.
I hate it.
Why no accessibility option or control layout option to trigger photo mode?
We can already map useless button prompts (for me at least) to swipes on the touch pad. Why not an option to apply photo mode to the touch pad? 🙄
Edit
Also, navigation assist is still useless. I don't really need it, but why does it only point in the direction of Mystic Gateways? I can choose to track a side quest yet it fails to point in the direction of the side quest.
What's the point of even having navigation assist if you can't choose what the assist tracks? 🤦♂️
@Daveuppercut
That's what GoW 2018 is for.
I hate the changes to combat in Ragnarök.
@Kang81 I thought I was the only one, loved GOW 2018 l but I'm just not enjoying Ragnarok.
Well I've got that berserker king to kill and he's doin my head in ,and 3 ravens to find in vanaheim and then im done ,which makes me sad ,ill take some cool photos along the way though.
@Daveuppercut really ? I loved it and thought it was a vast improvement, what exactly dont you like?
N.i.c.e. the photo mode is going to be cool.and the others stuff.kratos the g.o.a.t 🐐 👑.word up son
Remember when games didn't need patches?
@tallythwack I feel totally under powered, can't chop a flimsy wooden gate out the way , bad guys ignore my hits, can get killed by worms, can't jump up waist high ledges instead got to do some samey freeze the chain puzzle, crawling under a low beam or jumping up a ledge every 30 seconds for no apparent reason, can't do basic stuff "cause magic" Not to mention all the stuff I can't do in game like jump 15 foot in the air to attack or chop obstacles down that Kratos then does at will in cutscenes.
Am I not a God? Because I don't feel like one. At no point do I feel capable of F'in someone up unless the cutscene does it for me. Also, these characters really shouldn't have an American accent, why does Thor say *****? None of it feels authentic.
Its no where near a bad game, its excellent, but in all the wrong areas for me.
@Daveuppercut
I'm enjoying it for the most part, but the changes to combat significantly lower my enjoyment. I dont my a challenge if it's fun, but I'm just not finding Ragnarök's combat fun at all. I still feel like GoW 2018 has the most enjoyable combat I've played in a game to date, outside of the Batman Arkham Games.
The only “bugs” I got during GoWR was in Alfheims inside “The Barrens” (I think it’s called that). When climbing, Kratos would randomly mesh with the walls and not move up. Felt like he was half wall half god. Had to restart a few times to get it to work.
… also didn’t help that I got stuck in the Barrens for an hour trying to find ONE CHEST ;~; worst experience in the game for me. But overall, amazing game.
Platinumed it. Only had a couple of minor bugs. One that happened twice where Atreus got stuck in a wall after shimmying down a chain, he then couldn’t follow, and another where he got stuck getting on the sled. Both were minor and required a restart checkpoint to fix, which thanks to great checkpointing only lost about 10 seconds.
Also a shame NG+ isn’t available yet. Why is this often the case in games? If I was cynical I might suggest it was delayed deliberately to stop some people selling their copy while they wait…
@ShaneReactions yup! That'll also be my photo-taking-bonanza playthrough!
@Daveuppercut 😂😂 fair enough ,I understand what you mean ,he's the god of war but doesn't seem very god like at times ,use the blades on the worms ,what annoys me the most are the clear limitations on the game because of the ps4 ,mainly loading times and those daft crawl through spaces,or running through the portal area until the game catches up,the game is superb ,but kratos can't climb over a log... nah ,and thor sounds like hellboy to me 😂
Had 1 crash and had the invisible leviathan axe in the menu glitch but other than that nearly a bug free run hahaha
I wonder if photo mode coming late is a matter of prioritization of features within the studio or if it's actually a strategy to avoid people from spoiling the game left and right in the first few days after release. Sure, one can always take a simple screenshot, but photo mode provides a big incentive for people to post images of their gameplay.
And, of course, these updates do generate an uptick in marketing buzz and user engagement.
These updates are very much appreciated! I'm still working away at the game's story, just returned back to the Dwarves hideout after doing the Kratos fate story quest in the Lake of Nine.
