Atomic Heart – the unusual first-person shooter which is blending a bit of everything, from DOOM to BioShock – sure looks pretty on a supercharged PC. Developer Mundfish has released this footage exclusively as part of a cross-promotion with NVidia, showcasing the game’s crazy raytracing, powered by GeForce RTX.
In this trailer, it’s using DLSS 3 technology to retain performance without sacrificing image quality, and as you can see – well, it just looks extraordinary. The reality is that the PS5 version probably won’t look this good – and the PS4 port definitely won’t – but there’s more than enough imagination in the art and gameplay to make up for it.
It’s always looked a little odd this one, but we’re here for its alternate history action. Will you be powering through it come 21st February?

It’s like a AA dev from the 2000s has been given money.
@Notoriousmakavel It’s not really all that missing though, Ken Levine’s got a new game coming out and there’s two System Shock games plus another Bioshock coming out.
Definitely keeping my eye on it but I’ll refrain from preordering. I can easily see this getting headlines of either being fantastic or a garbage fire.
@Notoriousmakavel Only 10 years yet Infinite has aged about as well as a jobbie milkshake.
@KaijuKaiser just wait for reviews to save your wallet
I agree with what many have said here, looks incredible but I see this one having a catch. Could be that it’s extremely short or copy pasted since the team was smaller for so long.
My goodness though these hype videos are wild
Atomic Heart has been around since the original RTX cards. Scenes from the game were actually used as a demo.
Needless to say, the developers have had some time working with the technology.
some good xbox advertising on last 2 articles, both day1 gamepass
Might pick this up after a price drop. Generally not one for FPS games, but this has an interesting style too it.
@Colour I’m ok if it’s short. With all the big, open world titles this year, something short but intense could very well be the burst of life this year needs.
My fear is that the story or characters may be on the wayside
I dont see nothing the ps5 cant do.
it looks good.but its not like wow look at those graphics. It can be done on sony console.word up son
Everything looks great on a super powerful PC. I just don’t love PC gaming much, so i stick to my PS5 and Series X. I’ll play this on GP and hope it’s fun. Looks promising, but hard to tell.
No way ps5 version can do that. Those are by far the best graphics of all time.
@stvevan well Xbox is desperate for gamers, they’ve got to do something 🤣
@durxll123 the ps5 could do those graphics..they wont be running @60fps though with ray tracing etc and will probably utilise some kind of adaptavie resolution to maintain 60fps in performance mode..but the ps5 will do a grand job of replicating them..
This gives me such Arkane vibes. I don't have a lot of confidence in the final product let alone not running on a $3500 rig, but the design just screams Arkane to me.
@NEStalgia i always thought arkanes games reminded me of the bioshock games in terms of pretty much everything..so it looks as though things are turning full circle.
@NEStalgia Raphaël Colantonio is the founder of arkane studios and he worked on the original bioshock game for 2k marin..so that explains a lot of similarities between the 2 studios game design..👍
I’m so excited for this game I can’t wait!
@Colour it’s open world not huge but there’s vehicles and everything to drive and it’s supposed to be like twenty hours long. Think of halo infinite and the way it’s world was designed and that’s what atomic heart is like
This looks great and one I'll probably play on PC rather than PS5 to take advantage of its RT
@KaijuKaiser "without any risks to the wallet." You still have to subscribe, which is not for free (or are there still the $1 deals?), and You may not get anything that You really want.
@Northern_munkey DLSS is already an adaptive resolution technique, albeit often or maybe even in most cases a very good one.
@gaston isnt dlss an nvidia application? Not even sure if the ps5 uses an alternative to it..
Looks lovely, but hope it's not too much of a downgrade for the other 99.5% of people who don't have a superpowered PC.
People are far less forgiving about this than they used to be. Especially post-Cyberpunk. Understandably so with top end GPUs now costing £1,200 - £1,800+ most people don't want to see what is possible on a supercomputer anymore they want to see what is possible on actual realistic hardware.
@Northern_munkey Yes DLSS is Nvidia only. FSR is AMD's open source alterative, which isn't quite as good, but works on all hardware.
But these are just different image reconstruction techniques other engines and devs already have their own solutions. E.g. Digital Foundry always rave about Insomniac's in-house solution.
@themightyant that is true. I just wanted to say, that the image is already upscaled when using a top of the line NV GPU. So, with a PS5 which has less than (?) 1/3 of the power, there cannot be more than 1/3 of the detail and resolution i.e. before upscaling the resolution is likely much lower than 1080p or less frames per second.
@gaston @themightyant cheers guys. I'm sure that if this game is coming to the ps5 it is still going to look great..just nowhere near to that vid..tbh i'm not sure why push square are showing this and not waiting for ps5 footage..
@gaston Partially true, but it's not linear so a 1/3 power GPU will do FAR better than 1/3 detail, resolution, frame rate etc.
@Northern_munkey Many developers ONLY put out top end PC footage during marketing, though I wish this would change.
This game does look exceptional, and in that video beyond what a PS5 could output, but that is a rarity.
The reality for most games is we're well past the point of diminishing returns in graphical fidelity where for most people sitting a sensible distance away from a 4K TV the added detail isn't always all that noticeable in real time.
Yes it's there, but it's not usually night and day anymore. On still side-to-sides and other situations it becomes clearer but we just don't play games like that. Even Digital Foundry have to slow down the speed and Zoom in 200% or 300% to highlight the differences. In realtime these are often quite minimal to all but the most eagle eyed players.
@themightyant 👍
Yeah, I remember all the hype around Biomutant, some of which was around the graphics. And to be fair I haven't really played it so I'm not judging the game as "good" or "bad", but all that hype sure amounted to very little in the end.
Oh c'mon, keep your shirt on!
This is a demo video, masterfully polished by Nvidia as part of their aggressive marketing for DLSS 3, to justify the exorbitant prices they've put on the RTX 40xx GPU's.
The final game will look nothing like this, even when played on RTX 4090 with DLSS 3 as they say...
It's not the first time something like this happened either.
The Witcher 3 had the exact same problem, the launched game did not look like the marketing videos - it was only after people's backlash that they patched it to improve the graphics.
Remember the puddles problem in Spider-Man on PS4, that were present in the first videos when they showcased Ray Tracing and reflections? And they removed them later on, then put back in after people's backlash ?
Also the graphics of Horizon FW were somewhat lowered even on quality setting on the PS5, compared to the gameplay video they released a few months before launch supposedly to showcase the power of the PS5... yeah, so much power you have to play at 30fps to even come somewhat closer(ish) to the graphics level showed in that video, that was both superbly looking and fluent at the same time! ... Don't get me wrong, I love the game a lot, and plan to play it a second time on PS5 before the DLC comes out - it's just this kind of false marketing practice that I severely despise.
@themightyant "Partially true, but it's not linear so a 1/3 power GPU will do FAR better than 1/3 detail, resolution, frame rate etc." That might be true. Though by raw numbers a 4090 is nearly 10 times more powerful, seems to have a better ray tracing support, and games meant to show off PCs are typically not very much optimised for consoles. In the end it presumably depends much more on the developer's effort to optimise for a certain platform than anything else.
@Northern_munkey "i'm not sure why push square are showing this and not waiting for ps5 footage.." Excitement ?
Well of COURSE a nvidia tailored PC video is going to look better than a PS4 (big belly laugh here) and a $500 PS5. A Ferrari is going to be faster and slicker than a Civic too. Nice call Einstein.
On the game itself, it sure does look interesting, but only a fool pre-orders games nowadays. A smart buyer waits for reviews and a smarter one waits for sales.
@gaston or: Slow news day?
@gaston well usually it gets aired in the push square pc section..you know when the text header goes red..
@gaston #38 who would have thought?
Looks good. Hope it's more of an immersive sim than a typical shooter though.... Although I grew up on boomer shooters, I usually find the "just kill everything that moves" gameplay a bit dull these days.
Shiney, but I'm not blown away. Maybe its just me, but anything associated with Russia can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned, and that definitely includes this game.

@Titntin Mundfish is based in Nicosia, Cyprus. It’s being published by Focus Home Interactive based in Paris, France and 4Divinity based in Southeast Asia. I found this out through quick 3 Google searches. It took me far longer typing this comment than searching up that info…
@ryanburnsred
Thank you for at least not being abusive.
If you looked up that information, then you are also aware they are Russian owned company. Its a game set in a future Russia which can be clearly seen in almost all the environments. Some of the robots even wear the soviet star.
If that doesn't matter for you, then that's OK. I did not ask anyone to join my boycott or even pass any judgement on those for whom it doesn't matter.
I shared why I'm not interested in this (though the actual gameplay clips give me pause for concern regardless).
I might not wish to buy in for those reasons, but I'm in no position to judge others who wish too, and I hope they enjoy the game
@Titntin well said, feel the same way
@Northern_munkey Ahh that makes a LOT of sense, then!
@nessisonett
Majorly disagree Infinite had the best gunplay and movement of the series and the art direction is still pretty. Don't @me.
