Sony and Housemarque have confirmed the release date for the PC port of PS5's excellent shooter, Returnal. Long-rumoured but finally announced at the end of last year, the PC version of the game will release on 15th February, 2023.
The date comes from the above video, which also goes over some of the PC-specific bells and whistles the game will employ. For instance, support for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR will allow you to enhance the frame rate without compromising resolution. Additionally, the ray tracing capabilities have been enhanced; on PS5, ray tracing was used to create realistic lighting and shadows, but on PC, this will go further will full ray-traced reflections. The PC version also supports Dolby Atmos for its 3D audio. Topping it all off is support for ultra-wide formats like 21:9 and 32:9.
As well as all that, the final PC specs for Returnal have been revealed, and they go against the reports about unusually high RAM requirements. Here they are:

Why didn't they render the trailer in ultrawide? Amateur move Sony..
Great game hopefully this helps it get to a bigger audience
The best PS5 exclusive (not cross-gen) to date and my personal 2021 GOTY, hopefully it finds bigger success with PC players as most people just completely ignored it on PS5…
Returnal, fantastic game. Enjoy PC Owners!
@jrt87 probably not until 2024, believe I think they said single player games will release a year later. I can see horizon and gt7 this year especially gt7 close to the film release date
Looks good. Whilst its all subjective I wouldn't suggest that 4K60 needing a 3080 and 32G RAM proves that earlier reports of high spec requirements are shown to be invalid.
I'd be surprised if there's any PC games that cant do 4K120 on a 3080 tbh. I know there will be the exception to prove me wrong.
@lindos I have a 3080 Ti and there are many games that can't do 4k120... 1440p120 is your most likely bet with most new games with RTX 3080. And that's with DLSS enabled usually
Incredible experience. A must play.
If this runs decent enough on Steam Deck (obviously at low graphical settings), I'll be double dipping. Incredible game, my favourite on PS5
I think I hadn't made my point clear. The article was doing its best to suggest high requirements rumours had been disproved. Then listed a set of requirements that was quite the opposite, i.e. the list proves the rumours were true.
. Thanks anyway.
How does the minimum specs compare to the base PS4? Wondering whether a PS4 version would’ve been possible after all.
Loved this title though in over 90 hours I've never beaten the third biome boss - I'm so bad!
Maybe I'll have more luck at 120fps in epic mode, but I doubt it
Although the title boast of atmos sound, that means the sound has worse characteristics than on the PS5. On the PS5 every single raindrop is a sound source making hundreds of sound sources. its one of the best examples of that little bit of tech. The whole reason Sony didnt go with atmos was because it has a restricted number of sound sources many times less than the number Sonys tempest engine can provide (I think Tempest can use 350 sources? My memory is notoriously weak (long time stoner, who'd have guessed it?).
Irrespective, PC players are in for a treat and I think this will sell well on the platform.
@Grumblevolcano The minimum specs are (at least graphics wise) nearly on par with PS4 Pro. and that is for 720p so I doubt that the base PS4 would handle anything close to 720p Low settings. And that's not even mentioning the poor CPU on both the PS4 consoles.
Amazing game. Now, why can't they do this for Dreams?
I'm an optimist but I always feel like one day I'll see the heartbreaking news that MM have shut down.
MM and Sony please make Dreams on PC & PS5!!!
I'm close enough to the Epic settings. Should play great and I hope I'll also be able to play it on my Steam Deck when I'm far away from my PC.
4K@60FPS Ray tracing here we go! Or maybe you can push it to 120 with DLSS enabled on a 4090? Regardless, I’m looking forward to this one. Had an absolute blast with it on PS5.
I am definitely double dipping on this one. I can't wait for this to land on PC and actually get the recognition it deserves.
My rig more than meets all the requirements other than the GPU. Deeply curious to see low end benchmarks for this.
@IOI
I didn’t. Lol.
It’s my favorite game of the generation so far.
@Grumblevolcano why not as there’s a market for it! I’m sure Sony will eventually release a version on PS4
@Luigia I highly doubt it. The CPU is just too slow for stable 60 fps, which is crucial for this game. The PS4 and Pro CPUs are well below the specs of a 6400 or a 1500X. No chance!
Now with FSR 2.1 support, Housemarque should update the PS5 version with a nice upscaling to 4k in Performance mode. Or reducing the base resolution to 720p with Ultra Performance upscaling and more Ray Tracing features.
Hoping for this. If It gets WeMod support I'll buy it.
Great thing about PC gaming, if you disagree with what developers think are "fun" mechanics you can simply mod it.
@IOI honestly I’ll go even further. For me this has been the best game I’ve played since the ps5 came out regardless of system and it was my goty for 2021 as well
Can't wait to see what the modders do with this one.
Article reminds me I was gifted this game for Christmas 2021 and still haven't played it yet...one of these days I will.
