Nicely coinciding with HBO's first episode of The Last of Us debuting last night, Naughty Dog has published a PS Plus Premium trial of the very game the TV show is based on: The Last of Us: Part I. You'll be able to play the PS5 remake for two hours, granting you access to the heartbreaking prologue as well as the story set-up involving Ellie.
The timer starts from the moment you boot up the game having downloaded it fully. Other time-limited trials on the service include a five-hour demo of Horizon Forbidden West, one hour of Ghostwire: Tokyo, and an Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection teaser that's two hours long. An active membership to the highest PS Plus tier is required.
In our The Last of Us: Part I PS5 review, we described it as a "better, more beautiful remake of a modern classic" and awarded it an 8/10 score. "Without reference to the original, it’s not always easy to appreciate The Last of Us: Part I’s impressive improvements. This is a much better game than the original, though, with stronger art direction, smoother gameplay, and much more emotional cinematics. Naughty Dog has done justice to the original by improving on it in almost every regard, but it remains the game you remember from 2013."

Wasn't the PS4 version free with PS Plus (now Essential) a while ago?
Might as well just play the full version for more than 2 hours if you so choose.
I'd rather have a price cut!
@Icey664 Exactly.. Quit clowning around and give me a digital ps5 sale for 39.99 and I will buy. Its been out 4 months now.
"This is a much better game than the original"
Whilst I agree it's certainly the best version, especially visually, I didn't feel it was much of an improvement gameplay wise and I actually found it really easy, though that could be because I'd been playing so much of 2 recently. Speaking of which TLOU2 does still play noticably better then this.
All that said it was still probably the best new* game I played last year
Comes out on PC soon, and the price is much better on Steam vs PS Store. Will wait for a Steam sale in any case. Can't justify spending 4x the amount I paid for the remastered version in 2018.
Is the trial two hours playtime or real world time?
@sanderson72
This. You can download and play the PS4 version and play it in its entirety. Also has multiplayer.
I love how the majority of gamers enjoy the game, and yet a few of us understand how the story hits home a bit too accurately. Emotional rollercoaster is a one-time play.
I could've used this 4 months ago when it came out. All in all I'm happy I got it though. It was great playing through it again.
@JimmyRiddle Can't speak to this particular trial but in the few I've tried, your trial counts down when the game is booted, including menus, but when you exit the game the counter stops.
@nofriendo So in reality if I download last of us,play for 30 minutes. Then I could exit the game ,close the app,and play even days later?
and to add to my last post,if I decide to purchase the game in the future, will it have saved my progress from the game trial? If so I will let the file sit on my ps5,to save the hassle of downloading nearly 80 gb. I have very slow internet.
@hulkie Exactly right. That's been my experience. The timer is only running down while you've got the game booted up.
@hulkie yes timer only counts in game not when you close the app and walk away. also some of them do save your progress s when you buy the full game you still have your save and trophies stuff. so if forbidden west does it i assume they all do it
@hulkie $40 USD is still too much for me. I'll wait until it's $20 USD.
That's how much I paid for the PS4 remaster and I refuse to pay a cent more.
