Given how busy the February release schedule is, you'd be forgiven for forgetting about Forspoken, which released to a somewhat lukewarm reception a few weeks ago. At least from our perspective, the conversation that surrounded the game seemed to drop off a cliff just days after launch, and Square Enix gave no indication of what was next for Frey and her magical adventures.
Fortunately, if you have been waiting on any kind of update, we've now got one. Director Takeshi Aramaki has released a statement on social media, confirming that an update is in the works. This patch will apparently feature "improvements to overall performance, graphics, playability, and general updates and fixes".
Aramaki also stresses that the team is "committed to making Forspoken the most enjoyable experience possible". There's no word on when this patch will drop just yet, but we can't imagine it being that far off.
How much support do you think Forspoken will receive over the coming weeks and months? Glide across Athia in the comments section below.

Nothing will fix that trash dialogue that's for sure.
Glad to see commitment to this title. If you didnt like or want it, such updates are not going to change your mind.
If, like me, you felt there was something good and interesting here that was just let down by some large elements (such as story delivery), then the devs comitment to try and improve the experience is a welcome one.
That’s nice! I’m also committed, as the game has been a good bit of fun to play so far. Seems like the knives were out early on for this one, which just seems to happen sometimes.
Is this a game? I thought this was a parody since I first saw it. Square really having a bad year. Just concentrate on the next final fantasy 😂
I don’t know why people are so angry about this game. Like it’s very existence is an affront to nature and must be destroyed or something lol
I’m definitely up for some dlc. Really enjoyed the game despite its flaws.
I am glad to see that Square Enix are trying to improve this game.
Although I understand the complaints about the dialogue, I don’t really mind it, as it clearly marks out Frey as an “outsider”.
Although, the level of profanity seems unnecessary.
My only real complaint is that, in comparison to something like Horizon: Forbidden West, the open world of Athia feels half empty.
But perhaps there is a reason for that, which I have yet to discover.
That being said, I am enjoying playing Forspoken, but maybe that is only because I am doing it in small doses.
I really like this game. I’d go as far as to say that it’s my game of the year so far. Granted I’ve only played through this and Dead Space, but still!
This game wasn't ready to release at all
I finished this game last night, and its weird because I get the critique from a lot of the fury but also the game is so fun, and the story gets really bloody good - with great performances at the end.
it just starts off so rough, and because of how the game basically unlocks and becomes more fun as you earn magic it then sadly just ends - they could have used a few more chapters to let it all breath a bit, with a general polish up on a lot of the cut scenes - some of them were ps2/ps3 era in terms of animation.
it was defiently kicked out the door as to not get in the way of FF16 later in year but my god has it hurt what should have been a big new IP.
I Will try it on PSExtra when it drops
@Titntin I'll echo this.
I played a lot of this game over the last few weeks and had tonnes of fun with it. I spent more time roaming the map than following the story because the combat was producing some amazing screenshot moments.
I didn't finish it before Hogwarts became playable yesterday though, and it will be a while before I get back to it now.
At least there's going to be some updates waiting for me.
If they can ACTUALLY fix the engine to ACTUALLY run 60fps in performance mode and/or not look like a PS3 game in performance mode, this gets moved to a "Buy it for $20 or less" game instead of "wait for Plus/GP."
I'm not very optimistic though. It's a decade later and FFXV still runs like trash even on powerhouse PC. This engine can't be redeemed.
I will get it at some point but since HP was just around the corner I held off. I get open world fatigue with back to back games like that.
@Mad001 eh, I don’t really want this team working on Final Fantasy 😂.
I wouldn't mind the dialouge since I would have played it in a different spoken language anyway, but I'm not down for 90 % checklist hunting.
It’s a good sign that they don’t abandon the game and continue to work on it.
The issues with the game are to heavy to fix them with patches but I hope they can achieve at least a significant improvement with their engine overall and the visual. Let’s hope for the best.
@NEStalgia the statement that it looks like a ps3 game is too harsh in my opinion.
It reminds on the ps3 era in many areas that’s true. In the video from Digital foundry it’s impressive to see how important a good lightning in a game really is and that’s the point: that’s heavily missing here.
Hopefully they can improve it. Framerate as well.
@Reeneman It's somewhat too harsh, true. But it's not a very good looking game, even for a PS4 game, in performance mode, let alone a PS5 exclusive. It does look better than the 240p blurry mess (that really DOES look a lot like a PS3 game) that FFXV is in performance mode (forget if PS5 has performance mode, XSX does ,and the game runs smooth, but fugly...) Forspoken's demo, seems to look ugly (but better than XV) in performance mode, but still doesn't maintain 60fps.
Still not confident this engine really can be fixed with a mere patch, but I'd like to see them do it. If they update the demo with said patch I'd check it out when they release it.
I've been quite enjoying the freedom for exploring that you get with this. The dialogue is pretty dire though, and very repetitive. But the game is fun outside that and I'd definitely be up for some DLC.
I'm committed to get the game on sale for $15 or less down the line.
This is good news in general but i doubt it will get much support beyond whatever patch they are scraping together because of its likely sales flop in the eyes of Square. They tend to abandon everything that doesn't meet arbitrary targets and blame via scapegoating.
I can stomach poor dialogue as long as it isn't really corny JRPG nonsense and the gross portrayal of women that accompanies most of those "games." That aside, even if they fixed the terrible performance, and ps3/4 era visuals and tech specs; the open world design and side activities are so tacked on, lifeless, and repetitive that it's a tough sell for anything more than half off for me. I tend to be very forgiving in terms of open world content, but this attempt was particularly dated and bad, yet I also couldn't even get through FF15 for similar reasons so I should have expected such. I would have had little hope for this title had i realized earlier it was much of the same team (luminous) that cobbled together that title.
Square Enix is a mess, there is no sugar coating it.
Already finished it. But if it gets some story DLC, I would come back.
I turned world dialogue to minimum (wish some jRPG had that option) but some interaction like the "Newark" and "you sound like a serial killer" were actually funny.
Happy to hear they're still committed to updates, but I won't be playing the game until it's $30 New or cheaper though.
Remember when Push Square only gave this a 6? Lol.
@Shstrick yea maybe your right don't want final fantasy wrecked by these p*$$ takers lol
They should adress the script in the next patch.
The utter hyperbole surrounding this title is breathtaking.
Is it an outstanding title?
No.
Is it a decent game?
Yes
Discussions around this game indeed stopped pretty much immediately after the week of release, at least that's my opinion. I fear Forspoken will be yet another game quickly forgotten and only sometimes mentioned in lists of okay games to play during slow months with no major releases.
Once outside of the forced story elements the gameplay is quite fun, at least on the hard difficulty setting. I had been looking forward to this since the first "Project Athia" reveal and it didn't disappoint.
