We already figured that Hogwarts Legacy must be selling extremely well, but now we have a much better idea. According to Warner Bros. Games, the Wizarding World adventure has sold a massive 12 million copies within its first two weeks on the market. That's across PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, with last-gen versions still to come later in the year.
The global sales total has so far earned WB Games $850 million. Remarkably, Hogwarts Legacy is now the publisher's biggest game launch ever. Indeed, these numbers are reflected in Twitch viewers — which peaked at a record-breaking 1.28 million — and the total number of hours played, which the publisher says is 280 million. In short, it's big.
If you're one of the 12 million who picked up the game since launch on 10th February, be sure to check out our big Hogwarts Legacy guide for lots of useful info. How are you finding the game so far? Tell us in the comments section below.

Unbelievable!! This game is a massive success!!
Wow, amazing numbers. And well deserved success 👏
This was a triumph, I'm making a note here "Huge success"
I guess the boycott was all talk then? Fantastic news as its a great game and well done to the clearly talented Devs as they never made anything like this before or a game at this scale.
@WallyWest it’s the loud minority. Most people don’t even pay attention to the “controversies”. I haven’t yet played (but I will eventually), though I am very happy it’s massively succeeding.
These are some ridiculous numbers.
DLC and/or a second game in the pipeline for sure
Wow! That's incredible. Well deserved indeed. It's a brilliant game!
Well deserved! Just finish main story, now it's time to clean the crap out of this open world's map
I'm glad more and more games besides Nintys most casual games and all the cods/gtas are breaking past 10+ million with relative ease now

The people have spoken, cancel culture has been cancelled.
@Morzy Ditto, I get pretty tired of seeing these sites try to push an opinion like I should be expected to side with them. I think we could all benefit from some more tolerance, and learning how to engage as opposed to confront.
Well deserved. Fun game.

@JayJ PS is on the side of tolerance. Their opinion is it’s not cool to hate other people because they’re different than you. I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with that.
Glad to see this doing so well. Now only if WB would follow this game formula woth there other games.
Well deserved. It's a fantastic game.
Nice surprise to see it doing so well! Makes me glad I contributed my $70 to the numbers.
As soon as the final patch/update has dropped, I will happily jump into this game.
I think this sends a clear message to developers. If you take a strong IP and make a great game, it will sell extremely well (Spider-man is another good example).
But a strong IP alone does not guarantee success. Just look at all the games that have flopped recently or some time ago (the previous Spider-man games, Gotham Knights, Midnight Suns, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, many Lord of the Rings games, etc).
Fantastic game and well deserving of the numbers!
Now where’s my Mad Max game sequel? Luckily the character doesn’t look like Mel Gibson 😑.
@WallyWest not all talk. I'm sure they all did boycott it, but they've just found out that, despite being really loud and obnoxious on Reddit, they're a miniscule part of the market.
Same goes for those TLOU2 people who kicked up an almighty stink and sent death threats and antisemitic abuse.TLOU2 won various awards, sold really well and now has a successful HBO show.
When they talk about it on primetime TV, then it's serious. Otherwise it's just a load of bored teenagers acting like prats.
@Niktaw To be honest there is a lot of irony to that statement, as some people on that side who claim to oppose hate are themselves hateful of others out of intolerance for contrary opinions.
You can't be preaching the values of tolerance while displaying a lack of tolerance yourself, it just makes people look like a hypocrite. A great deal of hate stems from a lack of dialogue, people being quick to confront and react as opposed to learning how to respect others or simply discuss things. Preaching to and lecturing others is not a discussion either, discussions are a two way streets where both sides need to listen and be considerate.
What I often see is a holier than thou attitude that drives conflict, people believing they're the righteous ones and everyone else needs to side with them for that reason. That is not a healthy attitude for society, where you are always going to encounter people with conflicting thoughts and ideals.
Fantastic. A sequel is all but guaranteed. I've heard that HBO was also interested in developing it into a show. Don't know how true that is.
I suspected it would do well when I saw the great review scores but 12 million in 2 weeks is beyond expectations!
I bought it and I am absolutely loving it. A sequel is guaranteed at this point and it is well deserved. 20-30 mill sold before the end of the year
@YourNameHere dude I would kill for a Mad Max sequel. That game was so underrated.
@naruball So the formula for success is making a great game? lol that's the hard part. And let's not forget that some great franchises(Deus Ex, Pray etc) that are highly rated by the average commenter were not very profitable.
Maybe the secret ingredient is luck.
Imagine how many it would've sold if it had playable gobstones!
Really impressive given thats without last gen too. It's a shame they've said they won't do any additional content for it in terms of DLC. Maybe the energy will go into a sequel
Well done to Avalanche Software! Have made a great game.
Been really enjoying the game.
My PS5 annoyingly crashed (with another game) and had to rebuild database and I lost 6hrs of progress in HL, and weirdly my cloud save wasn't there either, but I was happy to go through those 6hrs worth all over again!
Testament as to how much I've been enjoying it.
Sometimes it seems like all roads lead to Hogsmeade
@DarkestHour you couldn't have missed my point more, if you tried.
A great game may or may not sell well. Tearaway, Puppeteer and so many other well reviewed games should have sold incredibly well, but they didn't.
But a strong IP (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Spider-man, etc) with mass appeal can lead to huge sales, if the game is indeed great. Hence why Spiderman games didn't sell all too well until 2018, same with Hogwarts.
That's pretty impressive, can't wait to try it later after I finished some of my backlog
@Clankylad No Switch version, no PS4 version, no Xbox One version.
This is a massive install base that hasn't even gotten the chance to purchase yet, so these sales are extremely impressive! Not bad for a game many sites "who lean a certain way" pretend doesn't even exist! 😂
I hope this game crushes all sales figures.
12 million? But last year, last year I got 13 million.
I love playing Hogwarts Legacy. It’s a great game and it deserves the success. I hope we’ll get a sequel that builds on the mechanics further. I hope the devs get a good bonus.
@jrt87 couldn’t agree more. Well said!
Removed - unconstructive feedback
@JayJ I couldn’t agree more, well said. There has to be a line somewhere though. If I say hey murdering puppies is bs, am I being intolerant toward puppy murderers? Not saying I know where the line is, but it’s somewhere.
I want this to blast the door wide open for more Wizarding World games. Maybe another single- player game in the medieval times with the Hogwarts Founders and Merlin, perhaps? A Quidditch game is a given, but how about a Triwizard Tournament- focused game? So many cool things that can be done with the IP, especially with a blank check from Warner Bros. given the massive success of this. I couldn't be happier it has become such a juggernaut, given just how much detail, love, features and money that was clearly poured into it.
@naruball It’s something Big Bobby tried so many times with Activision. That’s why they had so many IPs under their name before the PS4. He always preferred a quick buck instead of making quality out of these franchises. Now we know it is really worth it.
Does anybody know how often they release bug fixes? I can't finish the game, I have few bugs just like others as I read the official bug reporting site. But there is no information how long we have to wait. I just think somebody have experience how often they release patches in general. thanks!
I am glad to see the maturity shown in the gaming community at large that decided to celebrate gaming rather than engage in cancel culture.
Will be interesting to see how well it does after its out on PS4 and Switch
Love the game. Look forward to DLC and sequels. Huge fun!
... look, if i'm honest, this looks like a kind of game i'd love to play. When I loved the HP franchise and knew nothing about it's creator, I would have bought this game in a heartbeat.
But times have changed. My life is very different. And I can't in good conscience pour money into the franchise any more. That's my decision and I have to own it.
If y'all are playing or want to play this game, okay. That's fine. I don't really blame you. But all the comments about "cancelling the cancel culture" and such really break my heart because it suggests that you KNOW of the controversy, you know WHY it's controversial, and still you choose to be smug and rub it in our faces.
Please don't do that. We're dealing with enough as it is. All I ask is that you quietly enjoy your wizarding game and leave those of us who have chosen to avoid it the heck alone.
