And you thought Trails of Cold Steel IV had too many characters! Upcoming RPG Trails into Reverie is basically an all-star game. Not only is it something of an epilogue to the aforementioned Cold Steel series, it also wraps up the Crossbell arc, acting as a final chapter for Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure.
As such, you can expect to see just about every character ever make an appearance in Reverie — and many of them are teased in this new trailer.
For those who don't know, Reverie is actually split between three storyline perspectives. One has you play as Cold Steel protagonist Rean Schwarzer and his many, many allies, while another puts you back in the shoes of Lloyd Bannings and the SSS from the Crossbell titles. The third storyline, however, is all about a mysterious party of new characters, led by a masked warrior named 'C'. We can't wait to see how it all ties together.

Trails into Reverie is still set to release on the 7th July — so you've got roughly four months to play through every Trails game. Good luck!

Sounds like a Shining Force III deal, with all 3 scenarios converging.
This trailer has a bizarre lip sync issue or it is just me?
Poor Crossbell it is the 5 time or something that it is occupied like there is no police or military or something. It is like all those countries have no structure and wait for Rean to leave the harem and go save them.
In any case I played the fan translation some months ago and I recommend this game for Trails fans but I guess you would get it anyway. I will get a physical copy down the line. I tried to preorder from the European Nisa store and it charges custom fees for some reason.
I admit I’m lost. finished the original trails of cold steel, and did my first full playthrough of 2, but nothing after that. Are all of the games in these series available on PS5/PS4, or are some missing?
It's been a long time coming but I'm so excited to finally play this one after Azure. One last adventure with my boy Rean!
@thefourfoldroot1 All four Cold Steel games are on PS4, and the previous 'Crossbell' arc soon will be as well. Zero released on PS4 last year and Azure (Zero's sequel) is out next week.
@ShogunRok
So that’s everything Trails then? Great. I thought for some reason that some games were locked to a PSP or Nintendo console. Might be thinking about another franchise. Thanks for the info.
@thefourfoldroot1
Once Trails to Azure launches the only arc that will not be available on Playstation is the Sky trilogy arc. At least for now you need to go to PC or Vita (for 1 and 2 at least) to play those. The Sky arc is the beginning of the story. Well worth it though Sky 2 is my personal favorite.
@thefourfoldroot1 Ah, no you're right, before Zero and Azure there's the Sky trilogy, which are currently locked to the PSP and PC in English.
@Korgon @ShogunRok
So the original (canonically) arc is not available in its entirety at all outside of PC? I have a VITA so wouldn’t mind buying it there (unless it’s a PSP port with no trophies) although I’m sure it is stupidly expensive, but not if the last in the trilogy is not available.
@thefourfoldroot1 Yeah, none of those are available on PS4 or other current consoles, which makes them difficult to recommend to a lot of people.
Like @Korgon says they're still great games, but if finding a way to play them is going to be a hassle, you could always just look up the main story moments and stuff online. In my personal opinion, gameplay-wise, you're not missing a whole lot because the Trails games have evolved quite significantly since.
@ShogunRok
That’s a fair point, could just look up their stories. Shame though. Might have to get back into these (after Ishin, Hogwarts, YS8&9, SN and lots of VR2 stuff); actually, not sure if I’ll be around that long, lol. Really liked CS1&2 though…
@thefourfoldroot1 I will talk about only localized games.
Basically, Trails of the Sky is the first trilogy, or Liber arc. The games are on Steam. The first two were on PSP. The first also had a limited physical release. I think they have been delisted.
I recommend the Steam versions, since they have a fast forward button.
The next two games are Zero and Azure, or Crossbell arc, taking place sometime later. The first one is on Steam and PS4 and the second one will also be available in a couple of days in both platforms. Again, the Steam version has fast forward.
Then we have the Empire arc with Cold Stell 1 to 4. 1 and 2 are on PS3 and Vita and all 4 are on Steam and PS4. I recommend the latter versions due to fast forward. Cold Steel 1 takes places the same time as Azure.
The upcoming Trails into Reverie takes place some time later and serves as some sort or nonsense sequel or bizarre continuation and will be released in Steam and PS4.
There are two more games unlocalized for PS4 that are sequels to Reverie called Kuro no Kiseki 1 and 2 and take place sometime later with mostly new cast.
@Lorcan To be honest many say you can skip the Crossbell games but I think Cold Steel 3 makes no sense if you don't know those people and their motivations, even if I think that what happens in Crossbell makes no sense even for Videogame logic standards.
@belmont
OK, thanks for that. As a non-PC player, what I’m hearing is “skip Sky, play Crossbell arc, then get back to cold steal, then wait on reverie because there are two sequels yet to be localised…”
Is that a fair summation?
@thefourfoldroot1 If you are not a PC gamer and you don't know Japanese you cannot play the Sky trilogy. You can track the retail version of Sky 1 on PSP but it is not worth it. If you know Japanese you can track the games from the Sky trilogy that were ported in other PlayStation platforms. In any case I suggest go to this channel and watch the extended synopsis

As for the Crossbell arc I am not a huge fan of the over cliché and repeated stuff there but some familiarity is required to understand Cold Steel. Either play them and abuse the fast forward button or watch the synopsis on the above channel.
As for Reverie you must play it after Steel 4 and not wait. Regardless on if you like what they did with the plot Reverie is placed directly after Steel 4 and some mentions of the Kuro games are Easter eggs at best.
Now all we need is for them to localize the Sky series, then I can finally start playing.
